  1. Just wanted to give a shout out to AD/HC Randy Smith of Silsbee. Coach Smith has now been at Silsbee for 9 seasons. His overall record is 78-32. District record 38-9 and playoff record is 18-9. He has won 3 district championships, 7 Bi-District championships, 6 Area championships, 3 regional finals (2 championships) 2 state semifinals. His teams have made it to the 3rd round or better in 6 of his 9 seasons. They have averaged 3rd round over those 9 seasons. Here is a breakdown of each of those seasons: Overall District Playoffs 2016 6-5 4-1 R 0-1 2017 7-5 4-1 C 2-1 2018 10-5 3-1 R 4-1 2019 9-4 3-1 R 4-1 2020 7-3 5-1 R 1-1 2021 5-5 4-2 T 0-1 2022 13-1 6-0 C 3-1 2023 12-1 6-0 C 2-1 2024 9-4 3-2 T 2-1 He has won 72% of his games overall, 81% of district games and 69% of playoff games. All this as a first time HC. Coach Smith has also been an excellent AD. Silsbee has a very successful athletic program. Congrats to Coach Smith on what I consider one of his best coaching years this season.

  2. 3 seasons and 3 very good years for PNG 2 state finals, with 1 being a state championship, and 4 rounds deep. I would say highly impressive meat to go Indians!

  3. Nederland exceed my expectations. New Coaches and offense and defense scheme kids bought in. Had a chance to win district came just short. Won against PNG and everyone wrote them off saying they didn’t stand a chance… brought a new excitement to the town and school. Kids are buying in… safe to say the future is bright and Coach Rich and company are doing a heck of a job on and off the field in the community. Excited to see what the next few seasons hold

  4. Louisiana solved that problem. Open districts go to a different playoff bracket. Let them compete against others that aren't homegrown talent. It may be complicated but that's above my pay grade. I only know how to read a map and divide divisions evenly. Something the UIL obviously struggles with. Reminds me of a story I saw once. Before computers every MLB team schedule was determined by a husband and wife in NY. Just 2 people using common sense and process of elimination to schedule over 4000 games per season.

Finally, after graduating 14 years ago and PNG never playing in this direction, SFA is only 45 minutes from me... I will be there. Finally get to show my wife what PNG playoff atmosphere is about!

  8. Congrats to all who signed today. But if I am being completely honest, with how the transfers are allowed now days, signing day is practically meaningless. Or at least not near as meaningful as it used to be. Off my soap box now.

This case, with the many others will go down in history as the sleaziest prosecution attempts to date, This should make everyone nervous, no matter who you support politically. Only a billionaire could have fought these charges and not ended up living in a cardboard box.

  13. I actually provided facts to back my statements but you didn't want to hear them. You are tone deaf. No one will convince you otherwise that your opinion is just biased based on personal feelings and experience. Also, you seem to ignore that the original suggestions weren't to "close the door on them" but rather ask them to play up a level or two to make it more fair throughout the entire field of teams. no. what you want is for them to stack teams every year and win state. then sit there and beat your chest that the coaches "built something" You know who built something? Woodville. PNG. etc. That is building something.

  14. Fine.. just make every single transfer sit a year for varsity competition. Regardless of the reason. That should show who's actually changing schools for academic reasons.

  15. These football powerhouses are using open enrollment as a form of NIL in college. It’s done to get some of these kids out of unfortunate situations and to a better life. It is what it is. I’m not opposed to it whatsoever. Having said that, schools like PNG better seriously consider the benefits of adapting to this new trend in high school sports. Anyone who couldn’t see the talent gap from the opening kickoff is either naive or doesn’t know ball. Some of the kids PNG put on the field last night were severely overmatched. It’s no fault to them, it’s just facts. There will be some who say “well we won last year”. Last year was a coaching clinic. PNG could play that SOC team 10 times and lost 9 of them. Last season was a perfect storm. If PNG continues to be strict about transfers, that chip last season will be all we talk about for the next 50 years….because there likely won’t be another one. Out of the 8 schools in the 5a D2 quarterfinals, 7 are open enrollment….PNG is the outlier. Look at other predominantly white football powers (Austin Westlake, Southlake Carroll) also open enrollment. We’d also quickly move to D1 which means driving to Beaumont, PA, and Barbers hill opposed to Montgomery and Huntsville. I know why some of you would be opposed to open enrollment. I’m not from here, I’m from Nacogdoches. Our school was about as diverse as it gets. I see the honor, pride, and tradition. What I also see is an old school community unwilling to adapt to new culture. A community that stands solely behind the purple and white….heavy emphasis on the white.

This moron took PNG last year, but went SOC this year, JMO I just dont think PNG's defense is at the level they were a year ago...I also believe SOC's defense is a step or two above where they were a year ago...should be a close hard-fought game where a PNG win is definitely not going to be a shock

  21. Interesting matchup this Friday. Both teams have very good offensive and defensive lines, which will make this game interesting. Having watched Texas High all season, they have a wide open offense with very good skill players. If you look at their stats they run the ball 57% of the time and pass 43% of the time. Personally, that is a bit deceiving, as most of their games have seen reserves running the ball in the 4th quarter. I would estimate the primary offense is 50/50. Through 12 games they have run for 3,224 yds (48tds) and passed for 2,894 yds (32 yds). Potter, the Tiger QB, has been very efficient with a 69% completion rate and 1 interception (which came from a tipped pass). The passing is distributed primarily to 4 receivers…. Ball (865), Wrightner (811), Montgomery (532), & Pilgreen (392). The rushing comes from 3 running backs … Johnson (1,432), Ball (768) & Moore (716). The Tiger defense is solid and very quick. Hope #15 is healthy enough to play. He is a test for any defense. I was concerned about the Nederland RB, but felt Texas High did a good job containing him. I wish this game was in the afternoon, as Nachitoches is having their Festival of Lights and their will not be any rooms in the inns and restaurants will be full so plan accordingly. PNG are state champions until someone knocks them off, so I extend the Indians the respect they deserve. Pulling for the Tigers.

  22. I get it!! I was once in your shoes. I was that person in the stands, loudly complaining about “bad officiating.” Now, with the rise of social media, it’s easier than ever to voice these criticisms online. I thought I could see every call better than the officials on the floor. Then someone said to me, “If you can do better, get in the game.” That challenge changed my life. Over 20 years ago, I became a basketball official, and what I’ve learned since then is eye-opening. Officiating is not just about making calls. It’s about managing the game, the players, the coaches, and yes, the fans. We face a new generation of student-athletes who have been raised in a culture where everyone gets a trophy and losing is almost taboo. We deal with fans who question our integrity and sometimes become outright hostile. I acknowledge that officials aren’t perfect; we have off days just like anyone else. However, the increasing hostility from fans is driving many to leave officiating. According to the National Federation of High School Associations, approximately 50,000 high school officials have left the profession since the 2018-19 season, with fan behavior being a significant factor. Here’s the reality: without officials, there is no game. So, instead of tearing down the people who make your games possible, here’s a suggestion: • Thank the officials for being part of the game. • Thank them for the countless hours they spend studying rules, mastering mechanics, and working to improve. • Thank them for their patience with privilege-minded athletes and overly aggressive fans. Next time you see an official, instead of criticizing, take a moment to say, “Thank you.” They’re out there to make the game happen, and trust me, it’s not as easy as it looks from the stands. If you think you can do better, take the challenge like I did. Get in the game. You might just discover how much it takes to blow that whistle.

  25. Under UIL policy, in order to participate in UIL activities, one has to establish residency within the school district one is attending or one will be ineligible for a calendar year. Also, the DEC can rule ineligible if moved for athletic purposes. This is regardless of open or closed enrollment schools. Some are talking about moving for better opportunities. It's hard to validate that move when one moves from a school that has an A rating from TEA to a school with a D or F rating. Unless the parents moved for work or it was a negative family situation, those kind of moves are obviously for athletic purposes and the student should be rules ineligible. These new policies and regulations that UIL has just come out with will crack down on some of this mass transfer situation. (i.e. Duncanville girls basketball). It won't stop it completely, but having 10-15 transfers per year will cause major red flags to the UIL and they will step in DEC meetings. Pretty sure starting next year the "brother in law" DEC meetings will cease because a UIL official will be in those meetings per the new regs.

  26. 100% wrong. the success is completely attributed to the recruiting. Especially at SOC. SOC lost last year to PNG and one of their coaches in the elevator said verbatim “we will never win another one with this **** at QB. We gotta make a change. here comes Reggie McNeal Jr. didn’t work out but he sure made a difference. Along with multiple other athletes who didn’t grow up in South Oak Cliff. No. They grew up in Red Oak. Arlington. Forth Worth. Houston. it’s a cheap way to win and then beat your chest that “you’re the best.” the best at skirting the rules. sorry but I’m not impressed and I never will be. I’m impressed with PNG of 2023. woodville 2024. and all other teams that did it without skirting the rules or cheating outright. Open enrollment is poison to High School football. Plain and simple. THAT is common sense.

  27. Not so much has been said of the remarkable season Kingwood had. I think after finishing 4th seed people pretty much wrote them off. KW beat Clear Springs, Elkins, and Strake Jesuit before losing to Summer Creek in the 4th round. Awesome year for the "nobody" in the district with NS, Atascocita, and Summer Creek. Kingwood and Woodville are the overachievers of 2024. Great job Kingwood Mustangs!

  29. If anyone of those injuries was sustained in the private sector, the affected employee could sue the pants off their employer and end up with a huge settlement and/or continued payments. Usually not so with a member of the military. And what is the deal with PTSD? Do you not think it can be debilitating? I'm only guessing you never killed people or got shot at for a living... I can remember my Mom (a former Woman Marine) telling me stories of my Dad (Sgt. Major, USMC who retired after 30 years of service) returning from combat. After a couple purple hearts, a couple bronze stars with combat V for Valor and a host of other commendations during 2 tours in Viet Nam, after losing several very close friends in combat (some in front of his own eyes), after having to write letters to kid's parents letting them know their sons were heroes but weren't coming home, after being spit on and cursed at the airport when he returned home as "thanks" for his service, I can only imagine the stories she told me of how he was affected were only a scratch on the surface. Luckily, he was able to persevere and didn't retire from the USMC until the mid 80's. Not all guys were as tough (on the surface) as my Dad. I could never imagine him showing weakness at all. But to hear her tell me stories of him waking up in a cold sweat, sometimes wetting the bed or crying out in the night or launching himself to the floor when he heard a plane flying overhead even months after returning home made me a believer of how tragic that experience could be. He passed away from non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma (cancer/leukemia) attributed to the Agent Orange (kinda like round up on steroids) he would march through, sleep in, be covered in during his time in the field. They were kind enough to provide him a flag, a gun salute and inurnment at Arlington National Cemetery. Though never on disability, he did have full retirement for the rest of his life, though cut short. I think he earned it.

PNG's defense has improved drastically. TH would've scored 50+ on PNG's defense from earlier in the season and they held them them to their lowest points of the season last week. TH offense in my opinion is more explosive than SOC. SOC by far has more talent but PNG has proven the last 3 years that doesn't matter. If the Indians can hang around like last week I think they will win.

  45. Why are you going all out your way to support schools getting a large amount of transfers being able to compete against schools mostly consisting of homegrown talent? It wouldn't make sense to you for those schools to compete against other schools who are doing the same? Seems like you don't have a good sense of fairness.

  48. This hillbilly league is so confusing. We were told for a decade we had no chance to compete in this league. And that it would be a big adjustment to play in the mighty SEC. Good thing it took us zero years to adjust. First year, conference championship game. 13 years, little brother best finish is tied for 3rd in their division. There’s a reason OU is THE rivalry. It’s actually competitive.

  49. 9-4 on the year, made it to 3rd round after losing 26 seniors which was one of the most successful classes to ever come through Silsbee. I say that's a pretty good season. Most folks knew Silsbee would take a drop this year. You can't lose that kind of senior class and not have a drop off. Kudos to Coach Smith and his staff for doing another great job with these kids. Tigers were pretty young this year but grew up quickly. Silsbee will be losing some quality senior leadership in QB Moshier, RB/LB Farr, RB/DB Gaines and WR/DB Miller. Those guys will definitely be missed. Silsbee should return 4 of the 5 Oline, 2 WR (except one of them, Johnson, will move to QB). Tigers will return the entire DL, 3 of the LB's and 3 DB's. Good quality returners back for next season. Congrats on the year. Job well done.
