Let's get this straight. Silsbee won because they were better. Problems weren't falling from the sky, problems were in the Mustang secondary, which quite frankly cost them a 3 peat in 2017. It is up to the secondary and the Mustangs outside receivers to, as Coach Thompson himself said, mature football wise. If that happens, I likely be hearing Gary broadcast the 4A Division II State Final. If not, it will be Mike I'll be listening to.

If memory from the WO-S turf serves correctly, the turf is about to be laid at Vidor, if it hasn't started already. Sure, it won't be ready by the Silsbee scrimmage, but it may be ready to go by the time the Mustangs hit town.

I didn’t see amazing today. I seen a team working their butts off, working to get things right. I seen coach’s looking for players to step up and fill the spots left to graduation. I think the defense will take several weeks to find that right combination before they take off. I seen an offense with confidence. Just saw a Facebook post saying they won all three of their matches today, Match #1 Woodville 22-25,25-20,15-12 Baker 7 kills, Ward 17 assists, Gulley 17 digs Match #2 Hull Daisetta 25-13,25-14 Wilke 7 kills, Gulley 19 digs, Ward 12 assists, Wilke 3 blocks Match #3 Buna 22-25, 25-16, 15-2 Haffner 2 blocks , Leggett 8 kills, Gulley 17 digs, Ward 15 assists Priest 11 assists. A lot do, but I'll wait and see what Coach Williams does there. He seems to be one of the first coaches since Coach Harper who is actually excited about being there. But if the numbers don't improve, I agree, 6man will be the only way that football will be effectively played at Burkeville. At Sabine Pass, the problem is that, currently, they have too large of an enrollment to be able to opt for 6man football.

They look amazing on both sides of the ball... It's going to be a great year for the Tigers.

You guys realize this is a radical student group, not the university? And it’s an anonymous group which makes it harder to police. Hence the condemnation from the UT spokesperson. Nice honorable mention for D1 District 11. I think this District will be a heavy weight fight between Franklin, Diboll, and Crockett with Coldspring looking to re-establish themselves and giving those top 3 teams a tough test.

My understanding is the coaching staff went up to Liberty Hill in the off season to visit with thier coaches about how they incorporate the pass in thier slot t offense along with the type of defense they run. Liberty Hill made it to the State Championship last year running the slot T with a lot more passing. Also Vidor will be going to 3 down lineman and 4 linebackers on defense. So we’ll see if the changes pay any dividends.

Well, I haven't went to any of Silsbee's practices, but I hear good things from this group. Coaches like what they see....

As for losing Newton's defensive coordinator, that did not happen. Our defensive coordinator is still there. He has been the back bone of the team. We will not be as good as last year but we want be a push over either. As for a team that has 296 kids compared to 784 for Silsbee I think we do pretty good. As for crying, that want happen, we will take it and move on. When we get to 3A-2, we will be alright. We will not meet anyone in the playoffs any better that Silsbee, WO-S, or Gilmer.

Actually.. I say that like they’re a two time defending champion who lost 5 kids to D1 programs (or however many). I think that if you think they’ll be as good then you might be a little bit naive. How come WOS didn’t win it last year? They had the same head coach.. maybe because of the talent they graduated? Im not saying they won’t be good...but... I’ve seen 3A and smaller teams lose ONE D1 caliber kid and go from a state contender to a team struggling to make the playoffs.
