Baytown Lee at Pasadena
BMTSoulja1 and one other reacted to gary-us-bonds for a topic
Ganders have four receivers, two running backs and a QB that can take it to the house from anywhere. Offense is better than last year. Defense looks about the same I believe all told Lee scored about 6 first team TDS in about 25 plays.they also dropped two other touchdowns. Pasadena had one good sustained drive. Could have had a few more had it not been for mistakes. They scored once. They actually looked pretty crisp on offense when not fumbling. Lee will need to outscore teams again and will likely be able to do it to some degree.2 points -
Nederland-Newton-Lumberton Scrimmage

So it's fair to say that Nederland is off to a 1-0 start and Lumberton and Newton are 0-1? Grad, update the standings please per Mack.2 points -
This was my take after seeing everything except Nederland/ Lumberton game conditions. And yes, scores are meaningless, not because it isn’t s real game but I think it is s practice to see where you might be okay and where you need work. During the controlled scrimmage, the best squad was the Newton offense. They seemed to move more consistently and in bigger chunks of yardage on average. The squad needing the most work was the Lumberton offense. I don’t know what formation they are running but it looks like a Vidor clone.... all stacked in close and I don’t think I ever saw any wide outs. They had some positive gains but not consistent and they could almost never pass protect from that formation. I don’t care what offense you run as long as you can do it but they really weren’t getting it done very often. In the controlled scrimmage the Nederland pass defense had some big holes open up. Lumberton hit a wide open receiver for about 25 yards underneath and Newton did the same for 40-45. It wasn’t the yardage but the missed coverage or scheme. Like Nederland got 35 yard pass on Lumberton but it was actually pretty good defense, the Nederland player just made a good catch. The rest of the controlled was a lot of give and take with the wet conditions hurting the ball handling. In the game conditions, the clear winner was the Nederland defense over Newton. To say bottled up would be an understatement. Good practice for all of the teams and they all had some positives but plenty to work on. The Lumberton player looked to suffer a possible season ending injury. He was on the field for about 15 minutes before they could move him. Hopefully it was just a lot of precaution, it is not as bad as it looked and maybe he can get back and finish his season. At least it didn’t look like a neck injury.2 points

What needs to change as far as football goes? If you don’t have the athletes, it does not matter who is the coach. Injuries and a couple transfers killed Kountze last season.1 point -
PNG will be able to sling it around some but they will need balance...our offense overall didn’t impress but I believe everything is there and we just need reps....young secondary looked good against Bost and co.1 point

Its hard to gauge a team from the first scrimmage - like " Aggies we is" says- nobody wins a scrimmage . During the control part Broncos looked pretty pitiful while NC played like a veteran team . The Broncos are young and their inexperienced showed we matched up athlete for athlete that wasn't the problem. # 27 Dayton QB moved the ball better than # 1 QB in the control part but #1 QB was starting to heat up a bit in the live qtr. had a nice long run as well as a deep pass ( kid is going to be a dual threat and has a strong arm) The Broncos are nothing to brag about now but do see a lot of potential and progressively getting better whether that's enough or not time will tell.1 point

Very true. Whatever is going on in Kountze I hope they get it straighten out for the kids and community’s sake...1 point

Life isn't a team sport. Sticking with your high school team has nothing to do with your character or whether you'll be successful in life. OJ didn't transfer high schools or college; how that work out? Kids transferring is not a kid's decision; it's the parents. That vype article was full of crybaby coaches. It was a shame they held up Malik Hornsby last year. You know why he moved? His mother was tired of worrying about him getting shot. His old neighborhood was that bad. Coaches, coach the kids you got. If they're there, they are committed. If a kid transfers to your school, he's committed. Quit messing with parents raising their children. You don't let anyone raise yours.1 point

You’re correct we’re running slot t. First time against an opposing varsity defense so I wouldn’t expect much success at this point. I’m sure we’ll have plenty to work on now.1 point

Silsbee at Vidor Scrimmage Thread
Silsbee92 reacted to AggiesAreWe for a topic
This was not a controlled scrimmage. Teams played four 10 minute live quarters. Kickoffs and punts but no returns. 1st teams played the first two quarters, 2nd teams played the final two quarters. Neither 1st team scored. Silsbee 2nd team made a FG. I left after the completion of the 3rd quarter. Both teams have a lot to work on. Silsbee has some conditioning to work on. Silsbee run game was fair. Had a few good runs. Passing game was not good. Foster only completed 1 pass out of 13 attempts. The backup Briscoe did better in the passing game, completing around 6-7 passes. Silsbee defense fared well against the Vidor run game. Vidor only attempted around 6 passes. Depending on how well the QB position progresses will determine how good this Tiger team will be.1 point -
