Like I have stated, I really do not have a problem with a 4 team playoff system as long as every district has at least 7 teams. I just don't think it's a good system when 0-10, 1-9 teams make the playoffs but 7-3, 6-4 teams do not. That's strictly about geography and not about success on the field. A team should earn it's way to the playoffs and not be automatically placed in it or only required to win one game to get in. UIL should do whatever is necessary to equal out these districts. Then and only then would I view a 4 team playoff system as a valid system. I do not really want to go back to a two team system but if it's entirely impossible for the UIL to eliminate these 4 or 5 team districts, then I say go back to a 3 team playoff system ( still keeping the divisional districts) and reward the district champ or #1 seed a bye in the first round. This will give some incentive for teams to win district titles and require a team to at least win a district game to qualify.

Stranger things have happened. I was at that Crosby/Manvel game last year. If I would have put $1000 up for a Crosby win before that game, a lot of you guys would have jumped on it. Carthage has to make it to round 3 just like Huffman does. That is two chances for them to get shocked. (That is my Pie-in-the-Sky moment, leave me be.) The Huffman defense is good. Most of the points against them this year were against their backups. LCM put them on their heels with a pick six then a good drive but then HH shut them down twice with LCM having first and goal. I missed the Bridge City game so I can't comment there. But...correct me if I am wrong...the starting defense has given up 2, maybe 3 TD's all year. Is that right? Let me jump over there and look at the points allowed by Carthage this year.......never mind. (88pts allowed this season....yikes) Huffman is a better team than last year. They have to make it to that 3rd round too. Then it is going to be time to put up or shut up. It's a fun time of year, the only thing we know for certain....it will not go according to plan.

Ned in an upset. Regardless if it 2-0, 7-6, 35-34, or 72-69, Ned pulls the upset. As I said with PN-G, go line up and play. What do you have to lose? Throw the ball around, get the ball to your best play makers, and let it rip. On defense, get in position, and get as many of your friends to the football as possible. Just to be sure, ask Delbert Spell to help out. As far back as I can remember, if Coach Spell called the shots, the Ned defense always played bigger, faster, and better than they actually were personnel-wise. Even if Ned didn't win, they had a shot. Just ask him for 3 or 4 hours on the day of the game. It pains me to type this, but my family relative says I have to do it for good karma, and if I don't do it, that Thanksgiving turkey may taste different because it is her year to host, so, with my eyes closed, I'll type, Go Dogs. Coach Faircloth has 5 DC (when including outright and shared): 2009, 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2018. Next year, he should have the most all-time wins as HC at PN-G. He needs a state championship to be in the conversation with Doug Ethridge. Even then, I would still take Coach Ethridge as the all-time Chief at PN-G. That said, I'm proud of what Coach Faircloth has accomplished at PN-G. Good man, he runs a clean program, and he uses his system to put our kids in position to compete and win a lot of games. Wish list - continue the streak vs. Ned and collect some hardware at the state level. If it happens, great. If not, the world will keep turning and life goes on. It's high school football. Vs FBM - go play the game. Play hard, play as fast as you can, and compete for 48 minutes. Line up correctly and get as many defenders to the ball as fast as you can. When the Indians have the football, march down the field, and score touchdowns. No one will beat FBM kicking FGs. Take a few gambles. What do you have to lose? FBM will bust big plays. They are a threat to win it all. Regroup, play hard, and give it your best shot. If you do that, nothing to hang your head about. Tall task vs. FBM. It could be similar to last year 53-14 or the Indians could get a ton of breaks and shock the world. 56-55 Indians...maybe I'm crazy and blinded by a purple haze. Go Indians. Peace.

This will be the PNG Indians football teams 10th Playoff Appearance in the 11 Seasons that Coach Faircloth has been at the helm. 11 seasons: 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, & 2019. I am very proud of my Indians & Coach Faircloth. I will be proud of them, win or lose to the FB Marshall Buffs this Friday. LOVE ME SOME INDIANS FOOTBALL!!! Seriously. A kid who transfers out of Vidor has basically never even heard of what the qb position is. I’m sure he’s a good player, but his education is stunted. I include Montana quirante in that - he wasn’t a qb. He was a running back who touches the ball first.

Again, I am ok with 4 teams qualifying as long as each district has a minimum of 7 teams. That way, a team would have to win 2 district games to make the playoffs. If a team went 2-8 but those two wins were in district in a 7 team district, that is fine. They earned their way to the playoffs. How in the heck does a team that goes 0-10 earn it's playoff spot? Oh I was joking. While it may seem overly watered down (maybe it is).. every year either a 3 or 4 beats a 1 or 2. That in itself justifies taking 4 teams. Some districts are strong and some are trash. In the end.. it only takes two or three rounds to truly weed out the ones that don’t belong. As for teams in the playoffs with losing records.. you can’t punish them all to spite a few. Some teams have losing preseason records because they jumped on some giants before district. Some playoff teams only have winning records because they played cupcakes before district. You can’t base a playoff team on overall record.. otherwise nobody would play anyone that’s any good. Like I said.. it works itself out. The cream always rises to the top.

Well not anyone's game ...out of region 3&4 there is about 5-6 teams it’s out of imo.

And that is not all the story. Jasper also tied Huntsville. Huntsville beat Hebert, and went on to win the state championship. Never long for the good ole days when only one team made it out of district. In Jasper's only trip to the state finals, they were the third place team out of their district.

No truth whatsoever. A lot of schools will guarantee playing time--just time. not equal time-- for sub varsity levels but when it gets to varsity you have to play to win.

Try Jack's pak it in Beaumont. I've never bought ribs from them but I really like their sirloins and ribeyes.

Here's another way to look at it: Coach A is coach of a team in a district with 7 teams. He has compiled a record of 37 wins and 16 losses over the last 5 years, making the playoffs 1 time, advancing to the 3rd round. Coach B is a coach in a nearby district (less than 50 miles) that has 4 teams in the district. He has compiled a record of 11 wins and 44 losses, making the playoffs all 5 years, not winning a single playoff game. Coach A has beat Coach B's team soundly all 4 times in non district play. Yet Coach B resume can state he has been to the playoffs 5 times more than Coach A. I really don't have that big of an issue with 4 teams going as long as every district has a minimum 7 teams. A playoff system (any and every playoff system) should never have 0-10, 1-9 teams qualifying. I am old school for sure. I don't like this "participation ribbon" society that we have become.

Being a devoted fan for your team is the key. All teams need fans in the stands whether the team is a playoff team, or if they only get 1 win on the season. Also, band parents, I am glad that you support your kids playing at halftime, however, these are football games, not band concerts. The football players need all of the fans support, stay to the end every game. PNG faithful get your tickets this week, be there early for the game & show that Indian pride. Totally commit your support to the team, or stay home, we need fans who are there to root on the boys doing their best. Period!!!

He’s a great coach who has done amazing things with what he has. Honestly, we could have made the playoffs again this year; as, our losses were usually very close games. That was not the conversation before he came along. And I agree with coach bear, he has made a lasting difference in so many of these boys lives. Despite these few naysayers, most of us wouldn’t have it any other way.

If the UIL wants to keep the 4 team playoff system, then they should do whatever is necessary to make every single district a minimum 7 team district. I realize that this would cause more travel for some schools but the UIL has never really been concerned with schools travel situations anyways.
