SmashMouth and 3 others reacted to BMTSoulja1 for a topic
I just want kids that can play with a sprinkle of athletes here and there. I don't care what race they are. I've seen Hispanic kids that's came through that was the best athlete on the field, example, Bruce Reyes at WB. I've seen a Philipinio kid in Quirante. I've seen a Bermudan kid in Whaley. I've seen a white kid in McGuffie.. the list goes on. If they can play and ball, they can play and ball...4 points -
They already rewarded the in house AD for going 1 & 24 and he gets to keep his job - if one applies that wisdom to the new hire things are looking pretty gloom. Either way the new HC will have his hands tied unless by some miracle they leaned their lesson after 9 years of gross negligence from homer insiders and give a new outside HC the reins to rebuild the program form the ground up .2 points

Always remember that Silsbee got Calvin Tlyer, Jordan Adams and Tre Jones who all lived in Beaumont while attending Silsbee. And Briscoe lives walking distance to West Brook right now. Mom drives him to Silsbee everyday. He should already be Bruin and not a Tiger1 point -

I hear you, but I don’t think Uncle Pig meant that at all. I’m not even sure I understand your comment totally. Are you saying that without a mixture of races in our area that a team can’t be successful? In other words, are you saying that each race brings something to the table that the other one can’t? Question: If you had a school with mostly Asian kids - let’s say they are Viet Namese, some Italian kids and a few American Indian kids, would that provide a good balance DNA, culture, coachability that we need to have a winning program? What does race have to do with flipping “coachability”??? Omg...where do these people come from? Read BmtSoulja1’s post. He’s got the answer...1 point -

Exactly, I think people have this preconceived idea that you have to be a certain color to play a certain position: qb- white, RB/WR- black But look where we are currently in the NFL. Some of the top performing qbs this year: Lamar Jackson, Deshaun Watson, Russel Wilson, Patrick Mahomes... all have one thing in common. And arguably the best RB in the NFL this year: Christian McCaffrey. Its not about race. One of the best examples I can think of is Manvel vs Highland Park about 2 years ago for the state championship. All black vs all white, athletes everywhere, amazing shootout.1 point

I'd be shocked if there was a coaching change. We had such a hard time finding someone that wanted to be there and he's doing a good job. People are overreacting to one bad night. Question for Jasper fans. Who's out there that would want that job that would do better? Be careful what you wish for.1 point -

I don't know about so called racial mix, but Carthage has done a good job of getting the fat boys out of the welding shop and on the to field. Their O-line the last several years dominates. Yes its good scheme and coaching, but this day and time ,getting kids to come out into the heat and play, and lift weights all year, it is not an easy task. It's easier for kids to do other things, like chase girls, Deer, make money, or play video games. Just my observation.1 point -

Wow I always thought he was a good coach. He did some good things at Coldspring. Sounds like there might be some open jobs in setx in the near future1 point -
Ok my thoughts on the game. Manvel will be the favorite going in and beat BH last year 62-42. The game last year BH came in limping with a back up QB and RB stepping in to try and compete with the mighty Mavs. Even with that BH hung with Manvel till midway 3rd quarter when the wheels fell off and Manvel broke open a 31-24 game to rattle off 31 more points. This years Eagles are much improved and considerably more healthy with maybe our starting RB out. Good news for BH is Westerberg has been rotating 3 backs all year, so we are not dead in that department. Here's the good news for BH - The Manvel Defensive can be scored on, so I don't think we will be hurt on the offensive side of the ball. Manvel doesn't have a dual threat QB this year, so you don't have to be concerned with him taking off for 6. Playing at NRG again, so no weather concerns . Here's the bad news for BH - Manvel has 2 big fast RB's to deal with. Manvel has speed for days among their receivers. Manvel's QB although not real mobile has a good arm and is an accurate passer. The trenches is where this game is going to be won IMO and BH has been winning that battle all year, however Manvel looks to have some beef on both sides of the line. BH will be tested in the trenches and as the game wears on one will get the upper hand late in the game. I think BH will have to score as said above at least 40 points to win this game and my homer pick is ……… BH 48 Manvel 42 BH and Manvel have 3 like opponents this year. All this tells me is that these teams are pretty close and I expect a close game. Crosby - BH won 28-7 & Manvel won 39-27 ( Note: Manvel game was the 1st one of the year at home and 8th game of the year for BH after Crosby got their QB cleared) Nederland - BH won 40-14 and Manvel won 49-14 ( Note: BH beat Ned at Home and Manvel beat Nederland at Manvel) Houston Sterling - BH won 42-0 & Manvel won 44-26 ( Note: Sterling's #1 RB was out for the BH game and Manvel was home)1 point

Sure. No one was attempting to compare the two match ups/rivalries. WO-S has existed only since 1977. The truth is WO-S has never had a consistent one team rivalry in the entire existence of the school. In the earliest years, it was PNG. Some would say LCM, but the fact they are our neighboring school doesn't do enough for that one. LCM has barely shown up in the win column. A few folks might say Vidor, but most WO-S fans didn't view Vidor in that light. In order to be a rivalry, fans from both schools have to see it as a rivalry. That is definitely the case with WO-S and Jasper.1 point
