  1. I have to give a huge thank you to Martin for making one of Lumberton’s little ones happy tonight. If you’re from lumberton I’m sure you know Trace White, after the game Chris played basketball up and down the court with him.

  2. It is definitely not embarrassing to lose to a team that's majority white kids. Basketball has many facets. Athleticism is all but one and it's a horrible stereotype that all black kids can run and jump better. Actually, before I get started on this rant, I'll stop myself now. His argument shouldn't have even had to use race. Besides, this is the football forum.

  3. This was the 5th time I have seen Lumberton play this season. This was the best game that I have personally seen them play this year. Raiders played with a lot of effort, heart and desire. They also played very smart and were patient when they needed to be. Also, they utilized their skill set to the max. That's good coaching. #24 had his best game. 33 points and 16 boards, 10/12 FT. He put his team on his back tonight. IMO, clearly one of the best players in the district. Coach Mitchell is doing an excellent job and the Lumberton basketball program is showing great strides. Now, with that said, let's not forget Silsbee's side of this. I knew coming into this season that there would be a pretty significant drop off from what we have viewed over the last several years in regards to Tiger basketball. Silsbee is still a very good basketball team. A regional tournament type team. They have one of the best players in the state in Bush. Along with Martin, Cartwright and company, the Tigers still "run" this district. 6-0 thru the first half of district play. Nuff said. The combination of Silsbee coming back a bit to the rest of the field and the other teams getting better has created a very competitive district. You still might see a handful of blowouts but nothing like it was the last 4-5 years. The fact that Lumberton at home, playing their best game yet, was still 7 points shy of beating Silsbee. That says a lot about the Silsbee basketball program. Silsbee is still Silsbee. The best team in the district.

  7. Silsbee needs to understand they're still gonna get everyone's best effort when they play. Nobody is gonna get hyped up or excited to play and potentially beat Bride City or LCM. Some of these boys did look a little too relaxed during warm ups tonight.

  18. My guess is that your 2 cents is offset by a number of individuals who made it a point to shop at the two aforementioned companies specifically because they would not let the left dictate how they operate their business or with whom they do business. I am not a consumer of chicken but have bought other items at chick fill a ( that I ordinarily wouldn't) because of their stance on many issues

  19. Goldman is the largest underwriter of IPO’s in the country. I guess you could boycott the stock market if you want, but not sure how that will work out for you. I have a problem with huge global companies that nearly have monopolies telling who companies can hire if they want to be allowed to go public on the stock market.

  23. Silsbee got it up to a 10 point lead in the 4th. At that point it could have gone either way, a close win or a comfortable win. When it reached that point the issue was no longer really in doubt. It was a 50/50 shot that it could have been a 20 point win depending on the bounce of the ball. I was wrong too. But why? How good is Lumberton after all? They are 2 - 4 in district. HJ handled Lumberton without too much trouble, a 22 point win. LCM and WOS beat them. And their two wins against Bridge City and HF were close affairs. Silsbee has beaten all those teams. Our predicts were perfectly reasonable. There are only two possibilities. 1. This team was playing a good bit over their heads tonight. 2. This is an under achieving team. Based on what I saw on the court tonight I can't help thinking it's No. 2. I think nobody in district has seen the real Lumberton team until tonight. This is a good team. A really good team, better than anybody except Hardin Jefferson and really they should challenge them in the next meeting. They can and should win out against BC, HJ, LCM and WOS. I think they should place third in district losing again only to HJ and to Silsbee. In my opinion Brock Mcclure is clearly one of the best players in the district, maybe third behind Bush and Wirth. And the supporting cast is competent. And by the way, the Raiders showed no signs of wearing out. They had legs the whole game despite the fact that Silsbee pushed them pretty hard. Or maybe I'm wrong. Maybe Silsbee is the only team they really really care about challenging and they really were playing over their heads.

  44. You have been spouting the same "TEA is gonna take over West Orange-Cove CISD" for five years now, yet nothing has happened....not even a board of managers like other area school districts. And even if your fondest hope does occur, the UIL football champions record book for the years 1986 and 1987 under 4A and 2015 and 1016 for 4A, Division II will STILL say "West Orange-Stark." 3 more times than it says "Bridge City" in football and four more times than it says "Bridge City" in the baseball championship annals.

Averages double digits and makes a lot of great plays. One thing you can’t deny is that his offer list of 8 schools is as good as anyone in SETX. [Hidden Content]

Hit the nail on the head. Lots of teachers in my family. Also, I might add, the common belief that teachers or coaches are off-work when the kids aren't in school is way off base. The state keeps adding more and more and more paperwork, trainings, etc. There are enough mandatory trainings now that the state apparently expects teachers to also be doctors, lawyers, psychiatrists, etc. One thing that is difficult to gauge is how long a teacher should work to earn that salary. A lot of administrators don't hold the teachers very accountable, so it would be easy to treat it like a 9 to 5 (or 8 to 4) job. But a good teacher - let alone a good coach - puts in a lot more than that. You would NOT want to pay them hourly. The insurance is bad but, combined with salaries rarely making a real jump (this year was an exception) teachers in this area in particular have no real raise in take-home pay more often than not. Why does discipline stink? Mommies that don't believe Johnny's crap stinks. Administrators that don't want to deal with mommy. AND..... the state has begun to decide what is an acceptable discipline rate. Not sure now, but at one point they were essentially giving quotas that you can only have a certain number of kids disciplined in in-school-suspension or otherwise. So are you gonna send a kid for screaming obscenities in the hall? Or do you save that spot for a kid that vapes in the bathroom? Or threatens a teacher? Plus some kids are deemed not responsible for their actions due to disabilities and such - regardless of what it does to teachers and students. Academically - the state is currently judging progress more by whether the kids are graduating than anything. So a kid that doesn't get a diploma means the school failed. Doesn't matter whether Johnny can spell or if Johnny simply refuses to learn how to spell. Standardized testing should prevent that - except they keep adding loopholes around that also. Additionally, the politics can be insane. There are very few schools that do anything like merit pay to begin with and the internal politics mean that might be irrelevant anyway. Also goes for discipline. Some kids get hammered for certain things. Other kids walk for the same reason. Sometimes simply because the people in charge like that kid. So, to recap, beyond low salary (combined with insane insurance hikes), no discipline, low academic standards, expanded school year and out of school time requirements, politics and more. Gee, why might there be a shortage of teachers? The crazy thing is the state talks about being concerned about teacher shortages, yet they are making the job more difficult and unpleasant. A lot of coaches are flocking to the refineries - not because they don't enjoy coaching and the kids, but because the situation is so much better. Most parents, I believe, are good parents that want the best for their kids and all the kids. I don't think they realize how messed up things are. The bottom of the barrel parents and kids are ruining it for everyone. Things will get better when the good parents realize the corrosion of standards are hurting everyone and they start demanding that their kids be taken more into account than the bad ones.
