Houston and Dallas Schools in 4A and 3A
bullets13 and one other reacted to Ghost Writer for a topic
Houston and Dallas are able to get away with recruiting because they are their own DEC (District Executive Committees). the entire 4a district in HISD and DISD work for the same AD respectively. What coach is gonna report kids transferring for athletic purposes within their district with the threat of losing their job hanging over their head because the district is loading up their "showcase school" ? Also, just like basketball kids are steered to Yates in this way, football kids are steered to a certain school(s) as well. That's why small towns can fair well against most of the other Houston schools and not these. As stated before, if these schools have this unfair advantage then they should either be in 5 or 6a or in their own league. And yes, there are exceptions when talking about small towns competing. However, in most instances, small towns cannot compete on a consistent basis.2 points -

You might be right, but I recall last year when The 2X Champs Silsbee Tigers we’re picked to beat Yates in The Regional Finals. If I remember several individuals had the Tigers winning big in that particular game. Anything can happen1 point -

Silsbee in a blowout, similar to what Yates should do to Bay City1 point -
Nothing wrong with it for these AAu type tourneys 3 courts no seating other than folding chairs while they were using all 3. They have pulled out the stands for the finals but they are only on one side of the court.1 point

Last time I saw a game at Lee College in Baytown Silsbee played a bi-district game vs Kashmere. Silsbee's starting back court was Elam, and Jordan Holmes.1 point

Just like Cleveland, time have changed big time. Livingston use to have all the Jackson brothers (Shannon, Johnny, Bobby, etc) and Cleveland (Ivan William's, Andre Riscaino, Squirrel etc). Most of those families no longer live there I dont think. Some.of those guys are no longer living as well. Like I said, times have changed.1 point

Guess Livingston just ain't what they used to be from when I was a kid. Back when them and Silsbee were in the same district, it seemed like they always had a lot of size and at least one or two kids that could jump out of the building.1 point

Most definitely...and some of them will step right up. I know the comparisons that have been made to the last few years are tough. But one thing this group has in some of its top players that Devon and Jordyn didnt have as incoming freshmen is the build that they both developed, these guys like the freshman Williams is the body of say a jr or senior. Will be a learning curve and i am sure will take some lumps next year but the future is bright.1 point

I remember Huffman gave last years Tigers fits until about 5 minutes left in the 4th qtr. They had a kid about 6'2 who was like Barkley on the boards and 2 kids who could shoot lights out from deep. Very well coached team. Not that athletic but well coached for darn sure.1 point

I am predicting Huffman to meet Silsbee in 3rd round but Huffman can't sleep on Hamshire-Fannett in the first round.1 point -
Well if we're giving a dude that lost 30 games in row a pass, then I'm sure we can extend that same logic to a coach that always found a way to win some games.1 point

Don’t believe it is put on by the school districts. I think RCSSports runs the event and you have to win your district to be invited. Mainly a Houston event.1 point

It seems like a HUGE deal to me. If the HJ player keeps his mouth shut, Silsbee does not get the equivalent of three extra possessions to which HJ did not get to respond. Possession 1 equivalent is two made free throws Possession 2 equivalent is another two made free throw Possession three equivalent is the out of bounds after the free throws that produced a three pointer. From my perspective, three extra possessions producing 7 points is a very big deal. The difference is HJ lost a possession they had earned by being fouled and giving up three free possessions for the technical.1 point

I firmly believe that these two teams play 10 games it finishes 5-5. I think they are as evenly matched as you can get. One difference, Bush! Bush has scored 121 points in the 3 games vs. HJ this season. Martin scored 49 in the 3. That's 170 of Silsbee's 210 total points in those games. 81% Bush going 20/20 at FT line was what won the game. The officiating crew was East Tex. chapter. I thought they did a very good job. I know 2 of those guys and have seen the other one a few times. It was definitely one of their best crews.1 point -

MARCUS GRAHAM HIRED AS BEAUMONT UNITED FOOTBALL COACH!
Rez reacted to Cougar14.2 for a topic
I think winning games would be the culture change though. Right now I would imagine kids are playing because of the love of the game and potential scholarship offers. If you can put some pelts on the wall I think you would have kids that come out/become more dedicated just because they want to be part of a winning program. That “filler” is what I think helps to separate our teams from some of the more elite teams in the DFW and Central Texas. Considering the situation he was in I always thought Nelson did a good job at Ozen and to me Ozen was just as tough as some of those HISD jobs. I think it’s a little easier to sell the kids what Nelson would bring versus trying to sell them 0-30. I hope it works out though, we need more powerhouses in this region.1 point -
MARCUS GRAHAM HIRED AS BEAUMONT UNITED FOOTBALL COACH!
Yeoj reacted to Cougar14.2 for a topic
Smh, I don't understand why BISD didn't hire Jeff Nelson? I know he has some warts and would probably be hard to get by some in the administration but to me you need a guy that fits the culture . . . who also happens to be able to be a solid coach. Not someone who looks at the job and says, "Dang, with this talent all I really have to do is be a competent coach and I can use it as a stepping stone to get me somewhere else." Again, I know he probably wasn't even seriously considered but there aren't any coaches on that list with noticeably better resumes. I will say I may have reached for Tyrone Carter at Huntsville before giving Nelson another shot though.1 point
