  1. I have said all season long that 22-2A was a beast of a district. Still have three teams in the playoffs and I predict 2 will make regional tourney (guaranteed that one will). They will have a Regional Quarterfinal doubleheader Tuesday night at SFA. District champ Shelbyville will take on Gary at 6pm then San Augustine will face district mate Tenaha at 8pm. If I wasn't broadcasting Silsbee's game Tuesday night this is where I would be.

  3. I hear what you are saying but the fact still stands. It is against UIL policy to transfer for athletic reasons. If kids are recruiting kids, and they move because they want to play with their friends, then that is the basis of transferring for athletic purposes. That is what is being discussed. At least from my end.

  6. I think this is going to be the first game all year Crosby really feels the impact of Kaleb Stewart transferring to Atascocita after last season, I would maybe even give Crosby the edge had he still been there. That being said, if the super sophomore PJ Haggerty can get an efficient 35+ Crosby may still have a chance. He averaged 40ppg in the five game McDonalds tournament to start the season, led the district in scoring and is coming off a 33 point performance in a 30+ point win against HISD district champion Houston Northside. This will probably be Crosby's last game of the season but if you're just a fan that wants to see a crazy high school basketball environment and probably the two best sophomores in the Houston area go at it then come to Delmar fieldhouse tomorrow. I won't be surprised to see Griggs and Haggerty go for 80 combined points.

  10. It is about how they got there. The District commitee that decides these things is all the same school district. Many feel that the district allows this to happen for obvious reasons... My suggested fix is to have the district committee that decides and looks into these allegations be the two districts that neighbor each other and play in the bidistrict round... Either that, or all the people swearing this is not on the up and up, hire a PI, find where they live and find what made them come there. If a kid moves there to play, isnt that moving for athletic purposes?

Scheduling is not an easy chore especially when your team has drastically changed. You can’t have all cupcakes and you don’t need all loses. You have to prepare for district with competition without too many loses.

    Democratic Debate Meltdown

I’m on a Facebook timeline with a bunch of liberals. I ask the same question, who are you going to vote for? Only one answered. I think they’re ashamed to say. But it’s possible I’m giving them to much credit. It’s possible they don’t even know who’s running. Brainwashed so much they, like a Lab Rat, just run the maze and punch Dem. In Orwell’s book, 1984, the main objective was to stop “free thinking”, thus, Ignorance is Strength.

  15. For clarification purposes and to settle any thought of multiple member accounts by one individual, I personally know Mamba. Have known him for years and speak with him at games regularly. He has posted on this one account since he has been a member. Also, those that think a certain coach has created multiple accounts, well you are wrong. Any other questions on the subject, please contact me by private message.

  25. Just because they got away with it does not mean it wasn't an athletic move. Earlier you talk about HJ needing to stop whining, get it in the gym, and get better. Advocating the addition of players via transfer doesn't support that statement. Which is it? Work hard and get better or change your personnel through "players recruiting players?"

  26. I understand that AAW but if the UIL finds that they didn’t move for athletic purposes then why is everybody mad at Yates . UIL can say yes or no , the gripe is with UIL quit saying they are cheating if they get cleared. Like I said name me one coach who turns those kids away if their movng into their district?

  28. I most certainly did not say there were no other options in that area.. what I said was that any high school student living within the boundaries of Yates’ attendance zone HAS to be provided an education by Jack Yates high school. And.. any student living there is legally eligible to play varsity athletics for Yates high school. There is nothing anyone can do about it. Just like any student living within the Hardin Jefferson attendance zone. The students living outside of the Yates attendance zone still live in a school’s attendance zone.. there aren’t any empty spaces. Yes.. it’s highly suspect that these kids happen to have moved into this attendance zone. One can speculate that their coach is recruiting or maybe the school itself is recruiting via namesake. Unfortunately, not UIL, you, nor anyone else can control where the legal guardian of a high school student decides to live. If I was from out of state and got a job at one of the refineries in SeTx, do you think where I decided to live would reflect where I’d rather my kids go to school?
    1 point
  29. No.. but the point is that the kids living inside that boundary HAVE to be provided an education by Houston Yates and ARE eligible for UIL competition. Kids living outside of it ARE NOT able to just enroll in school at Houston Yates and start playing basketball. Those are transfer students and are ineligible for UIL competition for one calendar year from their enrollment date. The school does not have access to the whole city. NO SCHOOL can stop or deny who lives in their attendance zone.
    1 point
  30. They..do..not..have player pools of the entire city. They have an attendance zone/district just like every other public school in the state. Any student living outside of that zone is a transfer student and not eligible to play for one calendar year. Yes, they are a magnet school which means they offer a specialized curricula. Any school can do that. Yes, they accept transfers (open enrollment).. Everyone does. Even HJ! I’m not understanding what the problem is in understanding that. Just because the school is in Houston does not mean any kid in Houston can commute to Yates from anywhere in the city and suit up. Jack Yates doesn’t send buses all over Houston.

  31. One last comment and I’m done with this topic. Yates is a school with rich tradition that has always been a basketball dynasty. This I know. They would probably still be a good team even without the transfers but idk if they would still be state contenders. Maybe so. But I don’t think anyone in their right mind would truly believe 5 6’8 seniors decided to transfer to Yates the same year by coincidence. Those type of things just don’t normally happen. But even if that is the case I still don’t think it’s fair for rural area 4A schools to have to compete against schools like Yates. Yea they might only have 8 or 900 kids at their school currently but you never know what type of athletes or how many athletes are gonna pop up at the school the next year by “coincidence”. If that’s the case and the UIL is going to continue to let that happen they should take that into consideration when classifying them. You can’t classify them as 4A because of their enrollment when there’s at least another 5 or 10 thousand kids living within the school district but not currently enrolled at Yates of whom the best athletes in that group might just decide to transfer to Yates. That’s just not fair. Yates player pool is just way too big regardless of their school enrollment

  32. If Silsbee, HJ, United, or any other SE team had these 6’8” transfers, I’m sure we would be defending our team just like the Yates fans. Nothing will change until the UIL follows the rules. It usually comes down to following the $ to find the issue.

  33. Jack Yates is legendary school. If you want to know a little background it is the home of Phylicia Allen Rashad (Clair Huxtable on the Cosby Show) and her sister Debbie Allen the show (Fame) and producer of the (A Different World). Yates fans have to understand that your at a advantage every year. Yates is in a city with 3 pro sports teams. Your playing towns with a Brookshire Brothers grocery and Dairy Queen.

  34. Maybe Yates can just go up to 5A or 6A where they belong???

  36. I get how things may "look" in regards to ALLEGED recruiting, but does anyone have 1st hand knowledge of how this went about? Proof? If not, then this is slander and some good ole talking out your @$$. When Yates is down, there is no shortage of people ready to give a punch. Now when they are up its allegations and lies. Does any grown men on here believe that these kids, lets not forget they are kids, just wanted to play at that school. Its the hottest basketball team in the city in any class. If I play basketball, want to still be playing in March, like the system, dont you think Yates would be on your list? If your child was playing would you not think about them attending to play for a well known coach and fast paced system? Cant you see that as a possibility. IF you were at a Charter school and shading dealings were going on or you dont know the deal with the coach. Would you tell your child to stick it out? Or would you think about another program? Possible right? No matter what you say. YATES is legendary to a lot of people in Houston. A lot of kids for decades have wanted to attend Yates, not for grades or education per se but because of the energy and community following and because where its located. So for us we are happy that its becoming the school of choice again. A lot of families moved away from the inner city, yes Yates is the inner city, and grew up in Pearland, Alvin, Manvel, Sugarland etc... A lot of these families would have been at any HISD school and who knows. But now all those schools are 4A now... You all know how it works. As many enemies as Yates have dont you think UIL would do something if it was happening? Recruiting is Dallas, The stories are out. Kids sleeping in the garage at your girlfriends house. AD and Coach are brothers. Thats recruiting. Where is Yates stories? Proof? I dont know what yall talking about. Going to state is hard and yall are coming up with ways to make it easy. Talk about what are you teaching your kids. And also, no way to compare the 4th largest city in the nation to the golden triangle. My solution, combine HJ and Silsbee and be Hardin-Silsbee-Stark. Or get out of the UIL and just play for the Golden Triangle league championship. Because playing for state seems to hard for yall when you lose. Let me say this about the HJ coach thing. Its a basketball game, fans are going to be fans. Nothing was said derogatory or racists. Hell I dont even like them talking and Im sitting by them but I know what happens at a basketball game. He was mad been mad and now he needed an outlet for his frustrations. But his comment was more about recruiting than about his son...

  38. If it’s a legit transfer (meaning no recruitment was involved) it’s fine with me. I have no reason to favor any one of these programs over the other. I support all SETX programs. I’m just giving my opinion from the outside looking in. I have no clue who’s actually recruiting who’s not but certain things look more suspicious than others. Transfers happen all the time. Kids go to different programs for different reasons. Not every time do these reasons involve recruiting. In fact I believe my hometown, Woodville lost a good 2 sport athlete to Silsbee a couple years back. We don’t get a whole lot of great athletes in Woodville so that hurt us I think. But I don’t think any recruiting was involved. I believe he had family ties in Silsbee or may have lived there before at one point and it didn’t hurt that Silsbee has a great athletic program which I think had something to do with him and his family’s decision also. I think that transfer hurt Woodville a lot more than it helped Silsbee which is the killer part lol. But I don’t think there was any recruiting involved. I think that was a decision he and his family made on their own. Now those type of things happen all the time but when 4 or 5 good athletes transfer to a program at one time with no ties to the community that raises eyebrows. If you can prove a coach is recruiting players on a small or large scale than I am all the way with you but if your just going to throw allegations out there because a program has had a transfer or 2 over the years sounds like your reaching

  42. Ummmm.... I think that was the “what if” game you were playing when you asked if we could beat either of those much, much larger schools in BISD. And this topic was about the search for a new coach, not football in particular. My problem is this... West Brook has had modest success while Central, Ozen, and now United have been sucking hind tit for a lot longer than two years. If you’d like to compare any of those three schools all-time records to ours, I’m game. The amazing thing is that those BISD schools I mentioned have had tons and tons of talented athletes, the likes of which BC has not. So.... you start doing the math. You guys have tons of talent, but no success. The key missing ingredient is coaching, IMO. The initial hire at BU was underwhelming to say the least... then they turn around and hire a guy that sporting a modest 0-30 record as a head coach. The dumpster fire that I speak of is BISD administration. The lack of success in football (aside from West Brook) is just a product of that dysfunction. I’m not dogging the kids at BU or the program itself. From the outside looking in it appears that they are literally being set up to fail by administration.
