  2. A shot clock is not needed. Some of you folk need to go watch some 2A and 1A basketball.

  3. Yep, I guess I shouldn't expect everyone to work as hard as Toby Foreman did at Central and Peevy does at WB to get kids looked at...

  4. I read the article. Very interesting indeed. Trump flipping California would be insanely great for Trump, but the people of California need to vote out Pelosi, Shiff, and Newsom. That would be huge for California.

  5. Lets hope so. The way HS sports is now most kids want to play ball no matter what sport they're playing. The more kids a school signs, chances of more players coming out increases. Look at BC for example, labeled a baseball school because so many kids just play baseball because they have a chance of playing at the next level. I'd be willing to bet if BC got all of the baseball kids on the football field they would be better. Side note, Johnny Dishon and younger brother both played football at BC, 1 went to LSU and the other to Ole Miss for baseball. BRING BACK THE MULTI SPORT ATHLETE AND ATHLETICS WILL BECOME BETTER.

  7. Hoping we can make it to region this year. Saw some good chemistry between Bush/Martin/Gilder in the last game.

  9. High School basketball doesn’t need a shot clock cause it already has one. It’s 8 minutes long.

    Next Year

The hierarchy of 4A ball in the area is Silsbee, Huffman and HJ, with everyone else scuffing and occasionally having an exceptional season. The longhorns had a good season. It's been a while since they were competitive. But each year is different. HJ and Hargrave are probably going to be the favorites for the district title, as they should. They both have long time coaches and well established programs that keep the level of play steady. And while Silsbee may step back, their team will be good enough to make the regional tournament if they get a good draw. They're still the team to beat in the area in this classification. I wouldn't schedule a playoff spot for HF just yet. Livingston returns most of their team and Splendora will be much better. Shepherd lost 6 seniors but they still have a good center that alters shots (he's every bit of 6-9). Liberty will be improved too. A good team is going to miss the playoffs. The Lions had a good year before with 19 wins and then sleep walked in 2020 and almost missed the playoffs. When a team hasn't made it in a long time and then gets there, there can be a hangover. That's going to be the test, how will your squad respond to it's first taste of success and teams giving your their max effort because you are now considered a good program building win. HJ and Huffman come ready for war every year. I can't see them ceding the title easily. Y'all gonna have to show me before I believe y'all belong in the top tier.

  16. Jones had good minutes on Friday and contributed. He’s still very tentative though. When he gains confidence he’s going to be a force.

  17. Central Heights has a way of controlling tempo. Coldspring wins this one but not more than 20.

  18. A shot clock is needed. it could be a good opportunity for high schoolers to get ready for college basketball. It will speed up the game, good teams will score within the time frame, bad teams will have to adjust. A shot clock may expose some coaches offensive & defensive plays but it will also challenge coaches to improve their philosophies and how they manage the clock.

  20. That's their style. Good guard play with some length. Yates still wins by 25+ but I bet they don't score 100. That's slowing them down.

  27. The legal guardian indicated that the two players, one is a junior and the other is a senior were home schooled and lived in the Yates School Zone for 2 Years. The legal guardian have legal guardianship of those young men. The guardian stated that the young men were taken in because they came from a trouble environment. The two players did not play local summer ball in Houston. The guardian stated that Coach Wise was not aware that the young men plans of enrolling at Yates until they enrolled at Yates. HCYA is the home school the young men was enrolled in last year. AGAIN the young men had been living in the Yates School Zone for 2 Years. It's no one's business regarding where the young men came from before arriving to Houston. The legal guardian had the necessary paperwork required by UIL. Coach Wise reputation is on the line with the comments made by the head coach at HJ.

  29. That is true and it is for a reason. I met BTW coach Grayland 3 or 4 years ago. He was renewing his CDL license at the DPS driver license office I work at. He kept inviting me & another coworker to come out & watch his team play. I told him I had just enough free time to watch my hometown team play. When I told him I am from Silsbee his face lit up and the convo took off. He said a lot of nice things about the Silsbee team, coach and program. I am sure he has been watching and taking notes. Whenever I go to a holiday tournament I see this guy. He is young and a hard worker. This should be a good game.

  34. I understand Yates is the team everyone talks about and dreads but I see no excitement in their games....guess it’s me, they do not impress me, which I’m nobody I’m just somebody that watches basketball and loves the playoffs, I have no one that plays in high school, just an old ball player myself from many years ago and I guess I like seeing more Competitive ball playing then what I see with Yates, I would think as a fan it would get Somewhat boring after a while.... Good luck to all the teams left, lots of good memories you will have for a life time
