Ahh the race debate again... Well as me being an African-American myself the stuff you just alluded to does not even matter and why should you even care? The best teams from each region made it wherever they are a predominantly black or white team so it should not matter. Honestly I like to see an all white team make it to state because that should let you know that talent runs deeper than race but I will be rooting for Yates simply because I don't like Dallas area teams wherever it's basketball or other sports.

It still hurts but we will be back. Great season for our kids.

Interesting. That's my thinking. Yates is good, and I"m not just talking about the bigs, it's the whole starting lineup and down the bench. And yet, the China Springs' second half success and the fact that Johnson for Wax Life was fairly effective have sort of given me pause. It's not going to be a cakewalk. I still think they will win, I hope they do anyway. For the honor of Region 3? It's silly but there it is, that prejudice against the Metroplex. And there's "the team that beat the team that beat us" thing. I still claim that French High was the second best 4A football team in Texas in 1975, better than Permian. I love to watch the 4A kids play. Sort of the sweet spot in high school sports.

Yates has the best roster in the state, regardless of classification. They should mow through the teams, even at State. But I’m not close to convinced they will.

While I agree that to succeed, it must come from a viewpoint of pure equality, my perspective is not one of inferiority. My perspective is that minorities, particularly African American, were denied educational opportunity for centuries, and only received access to “equal” education in the 1960’s. When you start a 100 meter race 30 meters behind the start line, how do you ever catch up? Even exceptional athletic superiority won’t win that race.

What is it with folks trying to apply race to dang near everything these days? Conspiracy theory with the UIL on the pairings at state tourney??? RIDICULOUS!!! UIL has done their pairings by win percentage for many, many years. Top two teams by win percentage get placed opposite of bracket then the other two teams are drawn/flipped for to see who plays who. Where is the conspiracy? It's completely a coincidence that two predominantly black schools are facing each other in semifinals. That's it. What about the conspiracy theory that could be taken that the UIL, with these pairings, has guaranteed that a predominantly black school will be in the finals? What about that? BTW, Stafford is a predominantly black school. Argyle is the only predominantly white school of these final four schools. Conspiracy theory? Racially motivated decisions? GIVE ME A BREAK!!!

Should have been Co-MVP with Kenneth Lofton Jr. from PA Memorial. Both were just as valuable to their teams.

It’s not a travesty Fannett had a young team the year before and everyone was back and then 2 move ins come in who are pretty dang good helped a ton.

Anyway, my take on this is this. I don't think a coach should be allowed to pick himself or anyone on his team on the selections for all district. There should be a rule against this, however, if there is not and he did, its morally wrong, but not against the rules. He did it, so whatever. The all district selections for the most part is a joke anyway as I've explained in the recent past, especially in football. Boils down to a popularity contest, IMHO...

I think if memory serves me correctly HF went 6-6 in district play and finished 4th. Probably the reason a Coach with a 10-2 record was chosen above him.
