They probably didn’t start it, but Odessa Permian certainly perfected the “recruiting process” during the Oil Boom in the 70s and 80s. Unlike Yates, the big selling point was financial remuneration. Dads got jobs, Moms got jobs. Families got homes. And an above average football program was turned into a powerhouse/dynasty. Bissinger wrote a fantastic book on the town, the program, and the issues of race that still plagued the area at the end of the 80s. Why he didn’t delve more into that aspect of Mojo I guess only he can answer. Because it was certainly there and no secret in West Texas and elsewhere. But no one said Boo about it Yates didn’t invent that wheel (or HF or EC or whomever else you want to bring up about HS “move ins”). They are merely operating under rules that have probably been skirted since the UiL came into existence.

I'm sure all school events across the country are canceled. Sad times but we will bounce back better than ever. I feel bad for all these seniors and teams who are doing things never don before.

I feel like if it's safe enough for the kids to go to school...it's safe enough for them to do athletics.

I’ve heard. Kinda hard to understand. Especially in Louisiana. You can get married at age 12, but a mixed drink in the drive thru and publicly hunt in the capitol downtown...and they’re closing down the schools and it’s not even Mardi Gras!

No kiddin. That would require a little common sense thinking though. Unfortunately, I think the COVID-19 frenzy has pretty much killed more rational thinking than it has actual people. It’s a sad day.

Just no way in my eyes they continue this at a later date... I’m sure UIL will allow everyone that made the tourney to put a * for 2020 “championship” and send every kid a medal.... < that hurt for me to say because I’m a firm believer in a 1st place and loser in a sport. But during this time right now there is no winner at all. My heart goes out to all those kids that dreamed and worked so hard for it to be taken away from them just like that... they will forever and always have that what if question stuck in their head.

I’m thinking out loud, each conference can play their games in smaller venue similar to the playoffs. The games would be at neutral sites and the Finals for each conference would be played at a neutral site. I understand that all of the conference semi and finals can not be played under one roof but smaller venues with a reduced crowds should work.UIL can approve to extend the season and allow the games to be played. Their are facilities (basketball arenas) in Houston that are not being used. Just food for though

I know the kids are almost grown, however it still has to hurt deeply. How can they ever get their hearts fired up for another round or finish?

I just can't see how they can hold the tourney later. I think Dr. Harrison is just giving some hope but I simply cannot see it happening.

It's my understanding that this year is a wash. It could happen later but I seriously doubt it. Too many other hurdles to jump.

The media and the Dimwits are behind this hysteria. Just saw the US confirmed its 1000th coronavirus case. The flu has how many confirmed cases? They couldn't get Trump out with the sham impeachment, so they gonna run with this 💩. Just use common sense people, the flu is far more deadly.

The media loves to whip up a frenzy (in a very irresponsible way) over anything new, especially now that they can blame it on Trump. I am not downplaying this in any way, it's not good, but they love to over sensationalize, many times causing unnecessary panic.

Seems the tourney had a cloud hanging over it before it started. Couldn’t get into the games that were played today. During the last game they carted out a guy on a stretcher. Don’t know what was the issue. Everything just seemed wrong. Maybe next year will be back to normal.
