  1. Kinda funny how this works. 2 people 60 ft apart hitting a tennis ball back and forth is too dangerous, but piling 2000 kids into a school for 8 hours should be safe.

  2. I mean I don't know about you guys...but sports were one of the only reasons I went to school every day.

  3. What happened to being Texans? Remember the Alamo! Remember Goliad! Now it’s “self isolate”, and elbow-bump. We cancel the Houston Rodeo? I’m ashamed; I expect this in California and New York. Sucks for all the seniors.

  4. So you can go to school but you can not do extra activities. Like that is really going to help.

  5. I know it will be slow in sports for a few weeks but thought this would be cool to play and maybe do a pole on who advances to each round. Who would be the alltime top 16 teams from SETX?

  6. Pretty good, Hagar. If my wife and I are quarantined for two whole weeks and I die, I can assure you, right now, it wasn’t the virus that killed me.

  7. Obama declared H1N1 a public health emergency and later, a national emergency back in ‘09. I don’t remember running out of toilet paper back then, do you? There were 60,000,000 infected and 12,000 deaths. WTF??

    This Board Needs....

An elderly couple had dinner at another couple's house, and after eating, the wives left the table and went into the kitchen. The two gentlemen were talking, and one said, 'Last night we went out to a new restaurant and it was really great... I would recommend it very highly.' The other man said, 'What is the name of the restaurant?' The first man thought and thought and finally said, 'What is the name of that flower you give to someone you love? You know... The one that's red and has thorns.' 'Do you mean a rose?' 'Yes, that's the one,' replied the man. He then turned towards the kitchen and yelled, 'Rose, what's the name of that restaurant we went to last night?'

  9. Read my lips, you cannot pit your school's players against another schools players, whether you call it game, scrimmage, tiddly winks, what the heck ever.

  10. I don’t think there is any sense to be made of that.

  11. I think about how the Greatest Generation would handle this whole situation. They didn't raise any "Bubble" boys and girls. It's embarrassing how dumb we have become now that we have all the information in the world right in our pocket. And with social media, we are able to infect everyone else with our stupidity.

  12. Same with baseball, track, golf and other outdoor sports. That's too dangerous. But put all those kids in an enclosed space with adults who are more vulnerable to this particular virus because that makes perfect sense. Oh, and don't let those nasty parents bring outside food to kids at lunch because they might be sick. The people making these decisions get the bonehead of the century award. You can't have it both ways. Either go with the stupid idea that we are going to contain mother nature and prevent spread of a virus that many of us in setx already have anyway and just haven't been tested, or manage it with a controlled spread which doesn't overburden the health care system. But to contain, you can't put the kids and teachers in classrooms. And to control, it makes more sense to continue certain events and limit outside groups. Athletes at outdoor sporting events with only key personnel makes more sense than kids and teachers in the classroom if your true concern is public safety. But guess who doesn't get that state money if those kids aren't in the classroom?

  14. I don’t listen to Rogan religiously but he’s a pretty conservative podcast host who, according to one of my son’s, has one of the most popular podcasts out there. I do occasionally see a clip that I’m interested in and obviously this was one of them. .

  16. The DPS driver license offices are open. People who are off from work and school because of the virus scare come sit in the over crowded lobby at work to get their license renewed.

  20. 2013-14. That team was beyond loaded and i’d agree best team sends then. Crazier thought is the Ozen team from the same year wouldn’t be too far behind. Imagine United then.

  23. The best team I’ve seen here since the undefeated Perkins-led Ozen team was the state semi finalist Central team (2012?). Never convince me that if Toe doesn’t go down in the first quarter against Kimball, that team doesn’t win state.

  24. You would have to put the 88/89 Lincoln team on there imo (BJ Tyler). And obviously the Perk Ozen state title team would be near or at the top of the list.

  28. No he is not. Apparently the death threats were abundant after its release. And I’m like you - knowing what I do about some of the things that went on there, I thought Buzz went pretty easy on them.

  29. I really don’t think so. I think “we” have done this to ourselves. We have instant access to all media. Facebook gives us all, no matter how smart, educated or the lack of both we possess, the opportunity to bitch and piss and moan about the inequities of life. And sometimes, when we are lucky, we get to have an event that really gets our juices flowing. This time, we call it COVID-19. We used to call it the Wuhan Virus, but that made it sound like Asians caused it. Wouldn’t want to upset a specific class of people. If we had named it “White American Male” it probably would have been ok, but I digress. So we are all getting sick, we are all gonna die. I’ve got the solution! Let’s go buy dry beans and every bit of asswipe we can lay our hands on! After all, if all we can eat is pintos & dried fruit for a while... we better really stock up on the asswipe!!! WE, US, OURSELVES...That’s who we have to blame. If you’re sick, stay home. If you’re elderly, stay away from places where you could get sick. Wash your hands. Cover your sneezes and coughs. But leave the pallet of Aquafina and Charmin alone. Leave the kids counting on auctioning their livestock for college money alone. Leave our FRIGGIN STOCK MARKET AND MY RETIREMENT ALONE!!! But we can’t. We won’t. I bet it gets so bad that they close the casinos. Good lord what then...

  31. 👆 I don’t care if anyone agrees or disagrees with it, that was a well-written, well-reasoned post. They probably didn’t start it, but Odessa Permian certainly perfected the “recruiting process” during the Oil Boom in the 70s and 80s. Unlike Yates, the big selling point was financial remuneration. Dads got jobs, Moms got jobs. Families got homes. And an above average football program was turned into a powerhouse/dynasty. Bissinger wrote a fantastic book on the town, the program, and the issues of race that still plagued the area at the end of the 80s. Why he didn’t delve more into that aspect of Mojo I guess only he can answer. Because it was certainly there and no secret in West Texas and elsewhere. But no one said Boo about it Yates didn’t invent that wheel (or HF or EC or whomever else you want to bring up about HS “move ins”). They are merely operating under rules that have probably been skirted since the UiL came into existence.
