As far as your suggestion, no, no and no. I am going to treat the WO-C CISD changing the name of the Mustang defense the same as I did when Beaumont ISD named their football stadium the Carroll A. "Butch" Thomas Educational Support Center and when they changed it Beaumont ISD Memorial Stadium. I will abide by the actions of a duly selected board of trustees' decision even though I may not agree with it. I have seen enough opinions of folks I grew up with and have respect for who have a beef with the name. While I disagree that they should, the angst is widespread enough as to indicate that it is not just the view of a loud few. So, in official written content, I will not refer to the Mustang defense as "The Chain Gang" choosing probably just to refer to the Mustang defense as simply that, the Mustang defense. For as Shakespeare once wrote; "What's in a name? That which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet..." And that which we call a Mustang defense by any other name is just as nasty.

Speaking of banned the nfl and college football stadiums may not be available to high school games. They wanted keep all outside events out of the stadiums if there is a season.

I’m so excited for the kids who get to play ball. I wish I still could. I’m not gonna detract or distract if possible as relates to a bunch of kids who wanna be athletes. Everything is under attack right now. Especially something with a negative history. People on both sides dont understand or accept that words and phrases can evolve. And in order for it to evolve, it should be used in a positive way. Like our chain gang has. Only once do I remember someone using it to slur our team. Now that I've read all the post, I think it was even more meaningful, intimidating, and respected than we realized. Bottom line... I'll continue to support the kids and the program at all costs. No matter what they want to be called.

What happens if a fan at a game makes a chain gang reference? Will he or she be asked to leave? Will they be taken under the bleachers and be given a pamphlet on cultural awareness? You can call them whatever you want. They are going to knock the hell out of whoever they are playing, and that is all that really matters.

they have set these business up for failure. if you don't make your customers wear a mask they will fine you. if a customer tells you he has a health problem and can't/will not wear a mask and you deny him service based on their health issue. you have set yourself up for a very big law suit. stores are in a no win situation. people are going to other counties to shop so they are also losing revenue during this time these judges are brain surgeons..............

Chains are a symbol of bondage. I went to the Equal Justice Initiative a few years ago in Montgomery, Alabama, and the sculpture of Africans in chains at the memorial had me balling out crying. Good riddance to the chain imagery. If you haven't had a chance to go, it's worth the drive to go see the museum and memorial.

I agree. We should actually push for multi-cultural studies. This area has many Hispanic, Asian, Cajun, German, etc. cultures. I think it’s great for our kids to learn.

That defense over the years has made most offense’s earn every chain link they could get. They have had some of the nastiest defenses I’ve ever seen in High School Football over the years. I’ve always thought of the Chain Gang as a very Stingy Defense. Meaning not giving up many chain links to the offense. Sad to see it changed. How ridiculous!

I do love the fact that African American history will be incorporated. I love this move and have always wished that this was a part of studies when I was in school. Pretty horrible you had to learn about these things as a grown man. I know this part of it is political and not about sports, just felt like this needed to be said. But if anyone feels like it should be taken down for a topic to be started in the political forum, I can do that.

Of course I do... I remember the 07 game with Liberty (I was playing for Coldspring then) and we did that hook and ladder on the last play of the game with Zavius Johnson and Ashton Perry with just a few seconds left... Nothing short of a miracle
