Actually, Newton's current run is better than that. They have taken 3 of the last 4 from the Mustangs (they won the 2014 game as well). AND NOW, you know why I didn't West Orange-Stark when answering the question and just stated Class 4A Division II State Champs to show that it takes a pretty good team to do what one person, who has happened to be documented as wrong here 3 times in the last 2 days (at least), cavalierly believes will happen Friday night. My fondest hope is that next week there is a WO-S/Newton thread because that would indicate progress on a number of levels. However, let's wait until then.3 points

Well, let's keep in mind that not all of the cancellations were due to COVID. Over the first 3 weeks, there were 39 scheduled games under the SETX umbrella that were canceled or declared no contest. 30 of those were due to shutting down in preparation of Laura, damage from Laura or in one case, a weather induced no contest. 9 so far have been canceled due to covid. 1 game was canceled in Week 1 due to covid 5 games were canceled in Week 2 due to covid 3 games were canceled in Week 3 due to covid2 points

Now I love numbers, could've been a math teacher, but it doesn't pay as well. Once again, my love of numbers. So hopefully this can show the real percentages. Notice that US has a higher rate of infection than the rest of the world. But a slightly better chance of survival. And the same with the state of Texas compared to the rest of US. World population 7,810,883,000=100% World infections 27,891,000= 0.35% World deaths 904,000= 0.01% World Death per infection 3.24% If a human catches the virus, they have 96.76% chance of survival. US population 331,387,000=100% US infections 6,363,000= 1.92% US deaths 191,000= 0.06% US death per infection 3.00% If an American catches the virus, they have 97% chance of survival. Texas population 29,472,300=100% Texas infections 667,500= 2.26% Texas deaths 13,900= 0.05% Texas death per infection 2.08% If a Texan catches the virus, they have 97.92% chance of survival. Orange County population 83,572=100% Orange County infections 1,767= 2.11% Orange County deaths 38= 0.05% Orange County death per infection 2.15% If an Orange County resident catches the virus, they have 97.85% chance of survival.2 points -

I worked with that kicker a few years ago. He wouldn't tell most people his position, just that he didn't play much. I recognized him from the postgame award ceremony, but never really called him out about it. Once, another WOS alum and I were talking about the game. Not knowing that the kicker was standing there with us, he was cussing about how the kicker blew the game. I felt so bad for that kid. You could see in his eyes the pain. I went on to let the other guy know the kicker wasn't solely responsible. Young team, bad calls, DT being double teamed, and gilmer bringing in fresh DBs to cover him when he went both ways almost all game long. Along with our first trip to Jerryworld and playing on national TV at like 11am. Those kids learned alot that day, and it showed in 2015, 16 and even 17. The kicker also went on to be an outstanding, respectful young man. I'm glad to be able to call him a friend now. Like I said in another post. Can't you see how bad I'm missing our WOS football? Maybe now we can get back to the regularly scheduled programming. WOS 20201 point -

Last Year: Kam goes down at the half for EC HF gets the score to 19-18 at the beginning of the 4th quarter, then for some reason goes for 2 and bobbles the snap. Score stays 19-18. With 5:40 left in the game Marcus Morris puts the team on his back and takes the Longhorns 85 yards in 9 plays running for 75yds on his own, Saurage 10 yd gain, and completing 10 yd pass to Viator. Morris Scores the go ahead TD with 1:43 left in the game and Morris gets the 2pt conversion. Score 26-19. The Bucs get the kickoff at their own 42yd line and drive to the 27 of HF, go for it on 4th and 10 and throw an interception with seconds left. It was a great game! Morris is Gone, Saurage is Gone for HF, Perrault, Caesar, Offensive line are back for EC EC WINS this game on the back of the Offensive line and Earnest Caesar. If your bored you can re- listen to the game here: Start it at 2:36:40 for the last two HF drives. [Hidden Content]1 point

Ec has a few kids that can take it to the house.and HF has to limit there big plays in order to win. HF will get better as the season goes on no matter what. #6 for HF will be a stud for the next few years.he is just a freshman.D.Zeno.1 point

I stated HF has a good team. I didn’t call it an upset because I felt EC was supposed to blow them out. I called it an upset because I feel EC would have probably found a way to win had they not been caught slipping due to the fact that HF was better than they normally are. This year EC returns more and have more motivation so yea it could get ugly if HF doesn’t come prepared to play.1 point

I appreciate y’all’s intelligence, but I don’t believe I ever referenced the mortality rate in my reply. I was speaking to the severity of the China Virus. My point is that the mortality rate is not near as important as the effects of the virus on the population as a whole. For instance, if 5 people got a raging case of syphillis and 1 of them died from it then it’s true, the mortality rate would be 20%. But if there is a population of 1000 then the death rate for that population is .1%. The complete effects on the entire population have to be considered when trying to convey the threat of the China Virus. We all have to live with the lockdowns, the screwed up economy, the host of other ill effects, so we ALL have to be considered when talking about the issue of mortality and sickness.1 point -

I agree with you to a certain extent. Although Jasper was winning 20-14 in the 2nd quarter with 3:15 left in the half. You can hardly call that a W. But if that’s what feeds the DAWGS their motivation by all means eat it up. Too much game was left to be played. The weather won that game.1 point -
Well, the "lack of acclimation" might be a lame excuse. But in 2020, that is a UIL mandated situation. From the UIL football page: 5A-6A DATES 5A-6A SCHOOLS THAT HAVE OFFERED STRENGTH AND CONDITIONING SINCE August 24 Date Event or Deadline September 7 First day of conditioning (No contact activities permitted. No contact equipment except helmets may be worn.) September 17-19 1st Scrimmage September 24-26 Week One *Schools will have 11 weeks to play 10 games **The above is only for schools who were not shut-down through September 7 5A-6A SCHOOLS WHO HAVE NOT OFFERERED STRENGTH AND CONDITIONING SINCE AUGUST 24 Date Event or Deadline September 7 Strength and Conditioning and Sport Specific activities only, no pads or helmets allowed September 14 Begin Acclimatization Period September 24-26 1st Scrimmage October 1-3 Week One *Schools will have one less scrimmage in this scenario I don't know if either West Brook or United meet the 2nd criteria, but evidently Dr. Jackson and Dr. Allen believe they do. And if it is a dark line, they are going to err on the side of caution and choose the later, whether all of us like it or not.1 point

Its been a minute, lol. We really don’t even know what we’ve got yet. We have our RB Gatson that has several d1 offers, Williams is a strong QB and I’m really not sure about the others. Between Covid and the hurricane we haven’t caught a break. Jasper may beat us but even an average Newton football team doesn’t get run all over. 🙃1 point -

This is a great week for Kirbyville to cancel. Sorry, that was petty. Anyways, I think Jasper wins in a close one. Newton has a lot of key sophomores in key positions that will end up being very good, but they do not have a varsity game under their belt. Newton will get better every week, sweep their district and be a top 3A team in the state once again. They need time to find their identity, which will come. I just don't think Newton will be polished enough or experienced enough to beat a good Jasper Bulldogs team their first game of the season. Bulldogs in a close one, but I am rooting for my purple Eagles.1 point -
