Once upon a time we had a real coach named Jerry Stewart he took us to State in 2008. There was a budget shortfall a few yrs later at Dayton ISD so Jerry stepped down as HC but retaned his AD job for practically no money. Well come to find out just because your one of Jerry's assistant coachs (defense) doesn't mean your qualiflied or even close to being a HC as we found out the newly promoted was a vile flunky. After 5 yrs. of damage the Dayton isd School Board and Super regroup and put there heads together to come up with a brilliant new plan to revise the fallen football program with another assistan of Jerrys. This time the old Offensive coach was rehired toAD/HC which when the dust cleared turned out to be another flunky for 4 yrs. So finally in 2020 the board and Super have another apiphany and hire a real coach from New Caney (Ware) and we are starting to rebuild our program again . And now you know the rest of the story! He has about 33 kids on varsity this year to work with. ...

And not to hijack the thread, I just wanted Vidor to know that Huffman has a secret weapon. Usually disguised as a fat, middle aged man eating nachos in the stands.

We sat in front of another group of parents last week. Great family, great kid. His Dad was loud through the first half (everybody seemed amped for Splendora). I mean really loud. I think he ran out of steam in the second half. I looked at my wife when he was coaching the D-Line from up high. Said, "Man, he's loud". She just stared back at me. You know the look. I think I was just jealous we finally found someone as loud as me. 😁 I peaked at a freshman game in New Caney, it was 0-8 against us in the fourth quarter. New Caney was backed up to their 10 yard line or so with 3-4 minutes left. There was no play clock and the New Caney coach knew the refs weren't watching the time between plays. Lots of parents (maybe 10-15 in the visitor stands) were yelling "DELAY OF GAME, DELAY OF GAME" hoping the refs would listen. NC ran a running play for a couple yards and clock was running. My voice carries pretty good. Its not deep but I can project very loudly without sounding like I am screaming. I called out the time when they blew the play dead. Loud. Every 10 seconds I was yelling "THATS 10 SECONDS!" , "THATS 20 SECONDS!" , "30 SECONDS SINCE THE LAST PLAY", you get the picture. Finally, the refs throw the flag, delay of game. NC ends up punting. Son's team scores as clock winds down. Converts the 2pt to tie the game. I asked my son later "Did you hear me yelling at the end?" He said "Yeah, Coach asked me if that was my Dad." "Well, did he say anything else?" Son said "Naw, Coach said just tell him thanks." Obviously, I am the reason they tied that game.

I see this comment every year. I almost never see it happen. Especially this late in the season. And I am convinced it is true. Not every team has a RB or QB that can just muscle the ball in from 5 yards out. But every team has a DT or LB that is a little too big for RB and a little too small to dominate at their position. Teach or coach them to fall forward and this seems like a no brainer. Coaching from the stands is hard but we are never wrong!! 😁😁

I had no choice there, we went to church with the Coach. I made it a point to never discuss football with him at church. He may have brought it up if I went overboard though.

I guess you two are the " bust your chops police " - very mature ! --- I watched big NED and Dayton isn't nearly as good as they are so this should be a walk in the park for PNG. good luck !

Ok I have been lurking for sometime and am fairly knew to the Winnie area. My job transfers me about every 4 years so my kids know what it is like to have to change schools. But when I got transferred to Port Arthur my wife and I decided that the best school for our kids was East Chambers When you work in the plants or in a town that works near the plants you will have a better choice of athletes than if you are in the middle of the piney woods it is simple economics people move from places without jobs to places with jobs. To think that a high school team has to have the same genepool for 50 years is just insane. My wife and I both grew up in Big Football towns of the 90's Freer and Refugio respectively and have fallen for this East Chambers Team. First I have met some of these kids and the way you talk about these kids here is disrespectful. That kid you are mad is faster than your team is one of the most respectful and liked kid in the high school. The kid they had at Quarterback last year who broke his ankle against HF was the same. I have seen this QB now grow from a Freshman that fought like hell against Grandview and had them on the ropes in the first half. These kids wont be kids for long and it sounds like some of you need to stop being miserable and enjoy the gift that is Texas Football. Trust me I have been all over and nothing beats 2A-4A Texas football. To say that EC has not played anybody is not fair either. They beat 3 4A schools in a row schools that have enrollment almost 50% higher. Are you a coach? Do you know how hard it is to schedule someone pre-district when you are a good team. They had West Rusk on the schedule who is probably a better team that than anyone in the district but that was cancelled due to a hurricane. A good portion of these kids are also still living in houses that had damage from the horrible flood last two years in Winnie. Be the bigger man and just enjoy this team. This Coach is not like some Coaches that will purposely run up the score. Buna if you are mad stop them from scoring. I mean the second team offence was in half of the game. How is this fair to East Chambers they will have to be prepared to play full games in the playoffs. Do you think the coach in Refugio who had a National stroy written about him takes his players out? Does he go to State year after Year? And I am just a Band Parent

How far back you want to go on underclassmen? Is there rules for that or did you just not like him busting your chops about 7th graders being undefeated? Maybe you can let us know who has the best cheer teams and PTA as well.

Interesting comment. I would agree that in comparison to the last couple of years, Silsbee's offense has not played well. The defense on the other hand has played well. But when you get right down to it, Silsbee is 5-2 on the year with their only losses to then #2 Pleasant Grove and #2 WO-S. I would think most teams would take that record.

It's too bad that computer ranking doesn't change the outcome of that Deweyville/Horsemen game. 🍿

All I know is I have been humbled from my score prediction last week and I choose not to participate in any score predictions from here on out!

So.. I'm glad that the region/state accolades are somewhat selective but as mentioned before, the spots seem reserved for the deep playoff teams. Mostly. Perhaps it's just laziness. I know what it is with the district picks.. it's trying to keep parents happy. Unfortunately, that mindset is rotting society. I don't even really think that all district is that big of a deal anymore. It's too watered down.

Also.. 20+ years ago they didn't have every starter and most of the bench making all district.

The district champ will likely get the MVP. And there usually aren't many players that make All State anymore that aren't on teams with playoff runs. Maybe he makes it and congrats if so.. but politics usually wins.

Well old BOB doesn’t necessarily agree with your assessment that Vidor would win hands down playing against OF or any other team in our district not unless they change things around drastically. Respectfully so I think it would be a good game to play them.
