It's game day! I think I'm going to sit this one out as far as updates go. It's my boys last game playing at Pirate stadium and I might get a little emotional. So, I'm just going to put the phone away, live in the moment, root them on and enjoy. If someone wants to provide the occasional update for the people of setxsports, I'm sure they would appreciate it.

Me and my son have a tradition. This time of year, at the end of the game, we don't leave until all the players are off the field. We stand and wait out of respect, and we cry. We started doing this years ago when my oldest was at Crosby. At the end of season and playoff games, there is always a couple players that stay on the grass as long as the can. For most of these young men, they will never put on a helmet again. We watched young men refuse to leave, push their teammates away, trying desperately to grasp the moment like they are trying to hold on to castles in the sand. Its a big moment, some of the things we love and the journeys we take come to an end. The tide will rise, and the waves of time will reclaim what is rightfully theirs. There are precious things in this life that will come to an end, and many times, when and how it will end is not your choice. I hear ya, "its just football". But I would ask you to take a moment, after the band stops playing and the scoreboard is turned off, stand up and look. Life in all its splendor and tragedy is unfolding before you. It's more than just football.

OMG I remember that day when both of my boys walked off Huffman field for the very last time! Its another chapter in your book! Enjoy the moment and take it all in. We want our kids to get to this level so fast and then we blink and its over. I cant lie........I am teary eyed right now and my oldest graduated 8 years ago! My youngest last year! Ugh grown men do cry!

Thanks, he’s really stepped it up the last two games. 2 interceptions, punt block, recovery and touchdown. Hoping for a big night but I’ll just be happy with a W. Go Pirates! 🏴‍☠️

For those wanting a new Head Coach, it’d be hard to replace Coach Matthews with someone better or equal. Most of the time his record was established against larger schools. That plus his character, which according to everyone who knows him, is excellent. Now, a new OC could definitely be on the table though.

PN-G Pre-K 47 Dayton Pre-K 15. The kicker from a few years back at Dayton has a 4 year old that is legit. 5/5 this game.

All in the Family, Sanford and Son, both great shows. In a time we could laugh at ourselves. Notice how few comedians there are now? PC (which I hate) has made Funny a thing of the past. But since we have to be serious, High School Football is the best entertainment left. I think the Falcons - Pirates game will be a fine example of that. Just hope no injuries and good refs.

I know every parent out there is proud of their kids and as well as you should be but just think about the fact that they're not just athletes but student-athletes. School work is hard enough but especially in this day in time with the pandemic it is even harder to juggle your school work with Athletics. I'm just saying if they've made it to Friday night that means they've shown the responsibility and the determination it takes to play on Friday nights and probably made a lot of sacrifices to do so.

The DEC is the District Executive Committee for each district. It's repped by all the schools AD's and Sups that are in the district. They rule on eligibility issues among other things. The young man can go back to Tekoa Academy or even try to enroll at another school. He is a junior and could opt to play JV at Hamshire-Fannett and then play his senior year.

That was QB Josh Miller (I think that was his name). The receiver was Jayce Nelson, who played for Lamar and now coaches at PNG. Jayce has a strong argument for being the best WR in PNG history.

Yeah - Jerry Stewart was HC coach then. I remember PNG had a good QB that would throw long passes to a really good WR all night long.

BH can if they want to. Trust me. The refs kept our game from getting to 30 something to 30 something.

Thank you - I didn't know any of this. I'm not sure who the coach was at this point in the timeline, but Dayton was pretty good in 2011 (beat PNG in close game), 2014 (beat PNG in close game), and 2015 (lost to PNG in close game). Ever since then it's been a different story.

Exactly and Dayton Sux! That was my battle cry through all of the butt whoppins Dayton gave us through the Stewart regime. Be careful what you wish for 😀

Yes that staff that didn't have nothing to prove in playing WB. If you know sports WB system been in place for years so why would a new coach that just got the job in late spring and a pandemic in affect. He didn't see his kids till August and the staff was still being organized, we have bigger fish to fry than getting embarrassed by WB because they wouldn't have been prepared!! A district Championship is more important than playing WB for bragging rights!!!

It was not a struggle to beat Liberty. The WO-S turnovers kept the score closer than it should be, but this game was never in doubt. Liberty's game plan is to literally run out the clock for four quarters with that rugby-like offense of theirs. We started slow (2 punts in the 1st quarter), but winning against Liberty always looks ugly because of their style. WO-S has a bye week to sharpen their game, heal up some bruises, one final district contest, then the playoffs. Anyway, I know the coaching staff is not thinking about Carthage. Too much football to be played before that "if and when" match up occurs.

Swing out clubs open on Wednesday and Friday nights. So you won’t have to worry about our coaches boing in there. 😂😂😂😂

I beg to differ. I went to see Silsbee in a tournament the year they were was ranked #1 and went into the playoffs undefeated. That's another story. Around the holidays they played in a tournament at the now gone Smiley Hi School. Channel View was there, and so was Yates. I alluded to having seen talented teams with no coaching. That Yates team was one I had in mind. They had height, guards everything. They ran like the wind. They built up a big lead in a game, then fizzled out and lost. This was before they hired Wise. The difference between that team and the teams coached by Wise was like night and day. He put Yates back on the map. That negative stereotype that the all successful black high school coaches just win because they have teams with a lot of talent is a myth. All successful coaches win with talented teams. You have watched too many re runs of the movie Hoosier. It is based on a real team, but they used all kinds of cinema verite, and poetic justice to make that movie. That same mentality is the reason why both the Houston Texans and the Dallas Cowboys are jacked up.

They will definitely lose to United both times. I think they lose to HJ, Crosby and Stafford mainly because Silsbee will likely still be in football or just coming out of it. (except for HJ, I think Silsbee loses to them with a full squad). I think Silsbee will beat Lake Charles LaGrange.

If HJ is truly better than they were last year, they have a real shot at the regional finals or even state. I’m sure Silsbee’s freshman and sophomore group has improved over the summer, but the regional tournament might be a stretch goal... but also a very realistic goal to strive for.

So what is the procedures in regards to crowd size in the gymnasiums, social distance, etc? It would be ashamed to drive somewhere to see a game then get turned away.
