I sit around with my family (most the kids are grown and gone) and watch the results. I may stay up til the next day like last year. Usually the results are apparent by Wednesday and I take everyone out to eat to celebrate our right to vote and our democracy. If my candidate wins, it’s usually a better night than if not. But win or lose, we go out to celebrate the fortune we have in living in a free country with a right to vote. My Mom started this tradition when Reagan won the first time, so I also do it in her honor.

Yep. It means a lot to me. My daughter who lives in Houston early voted about a week ago. She sent me a pic of her and her new husband eating at a restaurant with their “I Voted” stickers on their shirts. Made me proud of her and hopeful.

Checking in. More reading and less posting from me nowadays. Thanks to COVID-19, I've only seen WO-S in person at the the Vidor scrimmage, but thanks to texanlive and hudl I'm following closely. Last week's game against Liberty was sluggish, but much of that has to do with Liberty's style. It was the first time I didn't see improvement from the previous week's game (the bye week came at the right time). The INTs were discouraging, but overall Pop Terrell has increased his passing accuracy and decision making. Still a few too many dropped passes, but we have multiple receiving targets who have all looked good at times throughout the season. Two solid TBs gives us something even the 2016 team did not have. At offensive line, they've had to grow up fast (four new starters). So far, so good, but still room to grow. The defense has pounded every offense we've seen. #44 plays like a Tazmanian Devil - very tough to block. Our core of LBs are smooth. It's the strongest position on the D. Brown and Berry's experience is showing every Friday. Even so, it seems every game the defense has let their guard down for one big play by the opposing offense which has lead to points scored. They should have multiple shut-outs. That can't happen in the playoffs. One big play against a Jasper, Carthage, or any other good opponent could be the difference in the final score. With all of that said, I'm encouraged with everything I've seen and even the areas where we need upgrading are within our grasp to fix. They've played only six games and have shown me plenty to get excited about. And...oh, yeah...it helps to have an excellent kicker. This is the best WO-S team since 2016. Let's see how they finish.

I agree to disagree on this, I will list some reasons why. While I do agree that they will improve, I disagree with the fact that they will not Beat Crosby and BH, if they can improve every week than it’s possible they can beat Crosby and BH.

Me too especially with Coach Morrison as head coach... He's definitely familiar with our schemes although it's a different offense than what we ran when Barbay was head coach. If we lose this game it will be because not only the players Diboll has but also Coach Morrison exactly knows what Coldspring can throw at them making adjustments on defense and (if Diboll does calls any audibles @Woodshed looking for your response on this one) they can win in the trenches on both offense and defense then although I am a homer but honestly I do expect Diboll to win this one but not by much (and you know I'm going for the Trojans) as we loss 2 games both by a touchdown and not playing sound defense... Speaking of Barbay if we still had him then Coldspring would definitely would win this one easily as he would of prepared for this one as soon as it came on the schedule and I'm not saying that Coach Stalley is not doing wonders for our team which he has but if we still had Barbay we would have still been undefeated and I know this because he had us ready the first year he came in 07 although a first round out against WOS (my senior year and grad in 08)... All things considered expect this one to be a smashed-mouth old school football game to the end and whoever wins we should all represent our district well

I didn't feel like I was implying the whole "group hug" narrative. I think we are aligned in regards to the statement "whether paid or volunteer, if you commit to a job, you should be held accountable to your performance." Two things can be true: It is a difficult job that is not paid at a high rate. The job comes with making decisions at speed on actions that (most times) do not leave evidence to support those decisions. There will be abuse and criticism from people who have never done it, and most times, do not have the same perspective or expertise. Bad officials should be held accountable and the difficulty of the task shouldn't insulate the individual from accountability. This seems like one of the most obvious examples of a principle well researched in management and leadership. The "Peter Principle", defined as "people in a hierarchy tend to rise to the level of their incompetence."

I wouldn't say that. But we should be competitive year in and year out. We have enough athletes to rack up 27 or however many DCs in baseball, but can't even make the playoffs as one of the biggest schools in our classification. It's pathetic. We've had three years in this new program and our odds have only improved thanks to realignment. And we're doing worse than ever.

they have guys doing varsity games who should not be doing peewee flag games. it is sad when you look on the field and a official calling a varsity game graduated from there last year. he was their QB the year before. between the homers and the people catering to certain coaches it is a every week thing in this area.

Texas City vs Nederland... Lets see here. Texas City lost against KP Nederland Lost against PNG If you ask me, If Texas City improves its receiver coverage some, I think they at least stand a chance. Texas City also has mostly a running type offense, so I think its a weakness Nederland could Exploit. Overall, I would say Nederland takes the cake unless Texas City finds new ways to win against Nederland.

I kinda already know. It was more of a rhetorical question. The coaching staff has to fill out a detailed complaint including quarter and time and supply video and if it’s egregious enough, something MIGHT be done. 999 out of 1000 times nothing happens (this coming from a retired head coach). But hey, these guys love the game. They give up their free time (to get paid) to just be around the sport. So it’s ok if they suck. it's hard to see from this distance. I played the clip over and over and the only thing I can see that would have made me throw the flag was HH#7 puts his left arm up and 23 has his hand inside under his pads and arm pit. 7 looks to pull away and maybe he had a handful of jersey? When the ball carrier comes underneath, 23 had his arm on the outside of 7s right arm and that is what I think the ref saw. Ref was probably watching the ball and switched his vision to the block and saw the blocking player with an arm outside #7 shoulders. If the flag wouldn't have been thrown, I don't think anybody could say he was holding from this film. I couldn't see it from the stands because the sideline blocked my view. This is not an obvious holding from what I see and, more importantly in my opinion, is not consistent with the calls they were making in this game. I volunteered to officiate a day of scrimmages years ago. Just me, one "official". I told the coaches "Nobody is paying me to do this, its a scrimmage. If I make a call you disagree with, just roll with me. I'm not trying to be unfair." The only call that I got yelled at was a fumble. The offense claims the kids knee was down and the defense disagreed. I called it a fumble and reminded the HC's "Its a scrimmage, I'm not a pro." After that 8 hour day of officiating, I had a new found respect for the officials. That is a tough job that I never want to do again. I forget that sometimes in the stands but I try.

This game comes down to defense pressuring the QB. If either team has time to throw they can pick the defenses apart. PNG must run the football successfully to set-up the pass, if not, Indians are in trouble. However, remember Bost can run! Barbers Hill can score quickly if they are executing the offense. PNG must run on offense & slow down the game. I truly believe this one can go either way. Praying for no injuries to either team for remainder of district.🙏🏈
