I sit around with my family (most the kids are grown and gone) and watch the results. I may stay up til the next day like last year. Usually the results are apparent by Wednesday and I take everyone out to eat to celebrate our right to vote and our democracy. If my candidate wins, it’s usually a better night than if not. But win or lose, we go out to celebrate the fortune we have in living in a free country with a right to vote. My Mom started this tradition when Reagan won the first time, so I also do it in her honor.

Yep. It means a lot to me. My daughter who lives in Houston early voted about a week ago. She sent me a pic of her and her new husband eating at a restaurant with their “I Voted” stickers on their shirts. Made me proud of her and hopeful.

Checking in. More reading and less posting from me nowadays. Thanks to COVID-19, I've only seen WO-S in person at the the Vidor scrimmage, but thanks to texanlive and hudl I'm following closely. Last week's game against Liberty was sluggish, but much of that has to do with Liberty's style. It was the first time I didn't see improvement from the previous week's game (the bye week came at the right time). The INTs were discouraging, but overall Pop Terrell has increased his passing accuracy and decision making. Still a few too many dropped passes, but we have multiple receiving targets who have all looked good at times throughout the season. Two solid TBs gives us something even the 2016 team did not have. At offensive line, they've had to grow up fast (four new starters). So far, so good, but still room to grow. The defense has pounded every offense we've seen. #44 plays like a Tazmanian Devil - very tough to block. Our core of LBs are smooth. It's the strongest position on the D. Brown and Berry's experience is showing every Friday. Even so, it seems every game the defense has let their guard down for one big play by the opposing offense which has lead to points scored. They should have multiple shut-outs. That can't happen in the playoffs. One big play against a Jasper, Carthage, or any other good opponent could be the difference in the final score. With all of that said, I'm encouraged with everything I've seen and even the areas where we need upgrading are within our grasp to fix. They've played only six games and have shown me plenty to get excited about. And...oh, yeah...it helps to have an excellent kicker. This is the best WO-S team since 2016. Let's see how they finish.

I agree to disagree on this, I will list some reasons why. While I do agree that they will improve, I disagree with the fact that they will not Beat Crosby and BH, if they can improve every week than it’s possible they can beat Crosby and BH.

Yep. Those that do violent things need to be dealt with accordingly. Violently!! they follow zero laws and lash out like toddlers but are grown men and women. The easiest way to snuff these losers out is hit them instantly ,directly and significantly. They need to feel the pain as a consequence for their actions. Stop all that negotiating crap. Why are we negotiating with domestic terrorist????? This is what you get when lack of discipline is taught and corporal punishment is removed from the school system. many parents fail these kids when it comes to respect, discipline, responsibility and now the public school system is too. And it’s not just inner city schools either. Met with school admins at a small rural school....and they have no corporal punishment (not even the coaches). small things add up over the years. The effect of small changes aren’t seen or felt till it’s too late to go back and fix. i hope and pray that people make good decisions tonight and in days to come. moms dads brothers sisters aunts uncles grannies and papas better talk to your people about not putting themselves in compromising positions where bodily injury or death may happen. The choice is yours no one else’s.

I wouldn't say that. But we should be competitive year in and year out. We have enough athletes to rack up 27 or however many DCs in baseball, but can't even make the playoffs as one of the biggest schools in our classification. It's pathetic. We've had three years in this new program and our odds have only improved thanks to realignment. And we're doing worse than ever.

This may be one of the dumbest comments ever. If they have 11 play the game, yeah right. Who in their right mind would try to play a varsity football game with just 11 kids. Plus if they cancelled an Area Round volleyball game because of covid, then it must be serious. I know those kids in HI, would strap it up no matter what, in the face of all odds, but there are things that are beyond their control.

If you look at the number of speeding tickets issued, you would get the idea that the amount of people speeding on the highways is negligible. Now go out on I-10, drive the speed limit, and count how many cars pass you versus how many cars you pass...or even keep up with. Speeding is negligible though.

it's hard to see from this distance. I played the clip over and over and the only thing I can see that would have made me throw the flag was HH#7 puts his left arm up and 23 has his hand inside under his pads and arm pit. 7 looks to pull away and maybe he had a handful of jersey? When the ball carrier comes underneath, 23 had his arm on the outside of 7s right arm and that is what I think the ref saw. Ref was probably watching the ball and switched his vision to the block and saw the blocking player with an arm outside #7 shoulders. If the flag wouldn't have been thrown, I don't think anybody could say he was holding from this film. I couldn't see it from the stands because the sideline blocked my view. This is not an obvious holding from what I see and, more importantly in my opinion, is not consistent with the calls they were making in this game. I volunteered to officiate a day of scrimmages years ago. Just me, one "official". I told the coaches "Nobody is paying me to do this, its a scrimmage. If I make a call you disagree with, just roll with me. I'm not trying to be unfair." The only call that I got yelled at was a fumble. The offense claims the kids knee was down and the defense disagreed. I called it a fumble and reminded the HC's "Its a scrimmage, I'm not a pro." After that 8 hour day of officiating, I had a new found respect for the officials. That is a tough job that I never want to do again. I forget that sometimes in the stands but I try.
