Man, I wonder why Nederland is even bothering to make the trip???sounds pretty hopeless against the all powerful mecca of Texas HS football

  3. Roy would be perfect if hired when the time comes...but I don't see Toby or anyone leaving Shoemaker right now, they literally rebuilt a struggling program back to respectability. Sky is the limit for those guys at the moment.

  4. And let's be sure to make clear, Coach Thompson has made no indication that this is his last year of football. Rumors of his imminent retirement have been circulating for at least 5 years now and I guess will continue to do so until he does actually does retire. As for me, I hope those rumors have to circulate quite a while longer.

  6. I don't know that a black coach would be on any shorter of a hook than a coach of any other skin color. Sure there would be some who would want to ride him out of town. But then again, there is a contingent of the greater Orange community that wants to do that to the current head coach despite the fact that in his 10 years as head coach (along with a very instrumental role in the era of his successor), he has led the Mustangs to 2 state championships, to the finals 2 more times and has advanced 4 rounds deep in the playoffs in every season of his tenure except 1. All of that plus raising the football team's winning percentage from .786 to .806 during his tenure (#1 in the state among schools that have played at least 500 games). Yes, some of those who want him gone occupy this board......deny it as they will. Some wish to call that "complacency".....not messing with a good thing. And despite the claims of some, the West Orange-Stark Mustangs' football team is a good thing. In topics here about other coaches and change, there has been a lot of talk about culture. When I see a post on here on here that the primary consideration for the next head coach, whenever that change might become necessary, should be skin color, it makes me wonder if the posts I made in those topics about the current culture at WO-S are accurate and if the current football culture in my old home town has changed.....and not for the better. If after an extensive search (something I do agree with) the best candidate to succeed Cornel Thompson, whenever that may occur, and to maintain or improve the tradition of winning at West Orange-Stark is an African-American, I will gladly welcome it as I expect other Mustang fans and alum will. In fact, whoever it is will have my full support as that person's success will greatly affect my mood on Friday nights between Labor Day and Christmas. However, if it appears that successor is put in place merely to satisfy some sense of social justice.......than yeah, I expect many will show their displeasure at the first sign of any misstep by the Mustangs. After all, the West Orange-Stark Mustang football team is exactly that, a football team. Much to dismay of plenty, some on this board, some in the superintendent's office, the Mustangs are not a social experiment.

  8. If FB Marshall only scores 70 on PNG it will be because it’s halftime. As long as FBM doesn’t want PNG to score, they won’t. Hard to see how anybody beats FBM until they play an Aledo or Ennis in the title game. They’re know for being pretty much the fastest team in 5A annually, I’ve never seen one of their teams with as much overall speed as their current one.

I know WOS did turn down a Scrimmage game with PA , PA wanted to just Scrimmage WOS .. WOS already had Scrimmages lined up as always... I'm speaking on more than just a few years back... but hey its all good ..water under the bridge now...

    Prayer Request

I grew up in Groves, played football (junior high and high school), and went to college with Artie. We both became coaches. Though never got the chance to coach together, that was the plan -- along with Deny Duhon -- when we were young. More importantly, he was my good friend for nearly 50 years. I will miss him tremendously. - BR

  19. You watch film as season progressed probably played better than you think, sev played both ways. Right now more skill kids in program than big boys. This years 6th, 7th, grade loaded with big boys. In a couple years should really be good up front. As for now, need a Covid free normal offseason to develop existing fat kids, and young ones.

  20. That's funny... you post something bigoted ("we need a black coach next time") but i'm the one with the problem... Did you notice that nobody else was dumb enough to openly support your point of view? That should be your clue, sir.

  24. It’s an excellent topic. If a black coach is getting passed up for a HC job by a less qualified white coach, then that’s a travesty. BUT, if a black coach gets a job as a HC just because “it’s time” and passes up a more qualified white coach being considered, then that is also a travesty.

  28. Y'all don't read. Leggett basically played the Frosh/JV team because the starters were playing football. Beating Leggett is nothing to be proud of if you're a 4A school. You're supposed to beat a super small school. Even when you're shorthanded, like Livingston was. Livingston's student body,(or any big 4A school, for that matter) is probably at least 20 times bigger. The very reason we have classes is so schools like Leggett can play against a level field. And they do a marvelous job in 1A. Being happy about that win would be like LSU fans rushing the field after pounding McNeese or Texas pulling up goal posts after hammering Lamar by 50. I might have been the only one on the Livingston side at Trinity that wasn't whopping and hollering during the blowout because Livingston was supposed to win that game and win big. But again, I ain't from here, and I expect a little more. Being good enough to beat Polk County schools ain't good enough to win in district.

  29. I firmly believe that Biden was elected via voter fraud. I’d love to be proven wrong, because I hate to think it’s gotten this bad. To prove it, it would take a complete audit of all states with statistical anomalies, but no one seems up for that. Democrats durn sure don’t advocate it. Anyone else find that strange? After all, after winning the presidential election, Obama resigned from his Senate seat on Nov. 16, 2008. Kamala Harris still hasn’t resigned her Senate seat. Does she know something?

  32. Nah just Miller, only thing I like about Calallen is the HC (SETX ties) 😎 I'd take Miller over Lindale 67-60 if it were to happen, seriously. Body (Miller QB) vs Jenkins (Lindale RB) would be very fun to watch, I say play it in Port Arthur if it happens 😁🍿 Gotta get thru this round first.

  33. Georgia now looking into groups trying to register non-citizens to vote. It is a fact, for you liberals that believe fraud is not happening during elections, they have sent out voter registration to people that are not living there. They are telling college students they can change their residency to Georgia, vote, and change their residency back to their true home state. These democrat groups are urging these people to commit felonies. If bluedove, ut alum, and biggie girl don’t believe that fraud was not committed during the presidential election, they are blind to the fact that theysupport a despicable party that cares only for power to push their agendas through that will ultimately destroy the US!

  38. If Trey Jones showed up in Silsbee his sr year from another region or another state that is one thing. Trey Jones dad played for Sigler and Silsbee 25 years ago. Same applies to Braelon Bush. The family lives In Silsbee. That does not bother me. The district committees and the UIL saw it the say way. Compared to the recruiting and outright mercenary transfers happening all over the place this is not even worth mentioning. In Houston a student can transfer to a magnet school on the other side of town, 15 to 30 miles away, no problem. Silsbee is only 15 to 20 miles from Beaumont. You can drive from one to the other in 20 minutes, depending on how fast you can get through Lumberton. Don't even mention what the private schools like FFA, Bellaire Episcopal, Strake Jesuit Yates, et al are doing. Oh yeah Yates is a public school, my bad. Or that home school fakery that resulted in a state championship up in Bridgeport a few years ago. They haven't taken that away so it still stands. A lot of good DNA has moved from Silsbee to Beaumont. That has been going for 30 or 40 years. I talk to classmates and friends and they are all in Beaumont. The current BU team has a definite Silsbee flavor. One or two players come back home to Silsbee in the past five to seven years and somebody wants to make federal case. Give me a break.

  39. said the same years ago when I went to watch vidor play Summer Creek in a playoff game...vidor was never going to stop the SC offense, so why ever punt and they should have onside kicked every time...that night anyway, whether SC had 90 yards or 50 yards to travel, the result was going to be the same, a score...why not at least give yourself a chance to get or keep the ball

    West Orange Stark 2021

Let me make this clear. Qualified applicants should get a fair shake. I just don’t think that’s the case in Orange or Beaumont. And not taking anything away from Coach T, Coach Peevey, or Coach Graham...

    West Orange Stark 2021

No, that’s not where I was going. All I said was for years, at Central (and Ozen), then a HC vacancy comes open, they seem to get black coaches while West Brook gets white guys. I always wondered why and have questioned it for years. I assume the district hiring Foreman was supposed to put that inquiry to rest but it really didn’t for obvious reasons. Now it’s United with 2 black coaches, some of them were white that applied. I’m sure if the WB job came open again, it would be a white coach. Just want to know the screening process. Do you select race then go for qualifications? Speaking of qualifications, .... well, never mind. Sorry to hijack this WO-S thread. I’m just rambling I guess. Or maybe I see a similarity with the Orange and Beaumont politics...

  42. if that's all that matters to your season, then congrats and enjoy watching the playoffs from the couch...you are telling me that if png was 1-9 with the lone win being over Nederland every year that you would be ok? keep in mind that you were a QB injury to nederland away from this week being irrelevant and already being out of the playoffs...

  43. Inject tenderloins (usually weigh 1-1/2 to 2 lbs each) with Creole Butter turkey injection and let sit to marinade for at least 30 min to overnight. Season outside of tenderloins with Tony’s. Roll in flour only when you’re ready to deep fry. (I season the flour up a little with Tony’s too beforehand). Drop in the hot grease at 350 for 10 minutes. Let rest for 20 minutes. Slice approx 3/8” thick on this bias. Center should be pink. Eat plain or dress with a little of that Giblet Gravy. Good Lawd. Lip-smackin’!

  47. Sadly this team is done. Faircloth will continue to ignore the defense as long as his QB's are putting up big numbers. I really like Faircloth but it is just silly to not be even a tad competitive on defense. Texas City threw the ball one freaking time and we still could not get lined up to stop the run.

  49. The last opportunity Crosby had to finish as undefeated district champions was 2017. We were 9-0 and heavily favored and lost at home to New Caney 63-38. More impactful part was that loss dropping us into the D2 #2 seed which set up the 72-69 loss to PNG in bi-district. Nederland always matches up well with Crosby. They usually have just enough personnel wise and play at that slower pace that seems to complicate things for the Cougars. Crosby has been the best team in 12-5A-D2 all year and has a chance to finish off their most impressive run through district play that I can remember. Ned is trying to prove they’re the best team in the district at the end of the year. This is exactly where both teams were hoping to be when the season started.

  50. As much as I believe there was fraud in this election, it is time for Guliana to stop the press conferences and show America what they found. In essence, it’s time for Rudy to put up or shut up!!! Let’s see the actual proof, and overturn the election. It makes one wonder do they actually have what they say they have.
