    RIP stevenash

I first met Stan when Clay was at Jasper. Jasper had just came down to 3A and entered Huntington’ district. It became a quick rivalry with within the first two years as the four games produced eleven overtime’s. Stan always jokingly referred to the Huntington police as the gestapo. Lol. He would often text laughable things to my phone. We will miss him. The board won’t be the same. Thoughts and prayers to his family.

  3. I am not surprised by the new AD decisions at all, everything he has touched has turned to crap . Whats surprising is, the worst athletic program Lamar has had in the last 20 years or so haven't been touched which is Track and Field . Tic Price was at least trying to recruit local talent, and out of 7 seasons only had 2 losing seasons . This new AD is a looser and has come in and is destroying Lamar entire athletic program right before our eyes.

  4. I see. and I do agree about following the rules especially when asked. I haven’t worn a mask in a private business since this China virus came into this country and I have only been approached by an employee once...we were very civil in our conversation and after stating my stance the employee let me continue shopping. (I pointed to some of the other employees and some didn’t have one on so he had no leg to stand on) now if he asked me to leave I would do so and go spend my money elsewhere.

  5. And you ask a hypothetical question, what if more people did the same thing or all at once. I don’t know I’m not the manager of that bank. Maybe they would have the masses against them and they would give up or maybe they would lock the door and let one person in at a time if they were a mask. You would have to ask the bank manager what he would do, not me.

  6. Those were my thoughts exactly. We would have had a core of a basketball team that was looking pretty good at the end of the year coming back. While Tic Price was not setting the world on fire I felt he was decent and just a good player or two from making the jump. Robin Harmony left the women's basketball program two years ago after a 115-66 record; since then the women have been 20-34. Holly Bruder took a start up women's softball team to the NISC championship game after 5 years. This year the softball record so far is 2-24. She was terminated on a claim of religious discrimination. The soccer team is doing good so maybe that can be destroyed next.

  8. Initially, she did not break a law. What she did though was disregard a public policy of a private business, i.e., she failed to wear a mask inside the premises of the business. When asked to comply with the policy, she refused. Since she refused, the business asked her to leave. The business has that right. She refused to leave. Now, she is committing a crime of trespassing. All she had to do was comply with the policy or leave. She refused to do both. Let’s use an analogy. When a patron visits a restaurant, he or she must abide by the restaurant’s policies. For example, no shirt, no shoes, no service. Other high-end restaurants require some patrons to wear a coat and tie. If you refuse, they will ask you to leave. If you refuse to leave, you’re committing the crime of trespassing. Just like if you go to McDonald’s with no shirt or no shoes, McDonald’s can ask you to leave. If you refuse, you’re trespassing. This lady refused to comply with the bank’s policy of wearing a mask inside the building. The bank asked her to leave. She refused. That’s criminal trespassing. If you do not like the policies of the business, do not do business there. Call them, close your account by phone or online, and have your money wired elsewhere. No need to go there in person and escalate the situation. Use common sense. Go Indians. Peace.

Great post TH. Agree 100%. BTW, an interesting bit about steve - When he first moved down here, his first job was at Wickersham Ford in Orange. if you’re older, you probably remember the ad line “ If anybody can, Wickersham can”. steve is the one that came up with that.

This one has been hard to shake. I knew him before I knew this board existed. I enjoyed reading stevenash’s posts before I found out stevenash was Stan. When I did it was quite a trip. He loved having discussions on a variety of subjects, politics obviously being one of his favorites. As you all know, I probably disagreed as often as we agreed. But I didn’t feel like he ever thought less of me when we did, and I can promise that was mutual. One thing I appreciated (as I do with some of the others I know here - Hagar, BSW; and some I don’t know personally - LRF, baddog) is that we could disagree and keep it cordial. We could have different opinions and still respect one another...hell even enjoy one another’s company. It’s a shame that is becoming exceedingly rare. I will miss being reading stevenash’s posts on this site. I will miss being able to text him when I have a question I know he will know the answer to. But most of all I will miss that smile of his that he always seemed to wear, a smile that filled his entire face. Continued prayers for his wife, kids, grandkids, and all of his loved ones.

  15. In order for the communists to take over completely, they have to turn everyone against the white man. They have to show the white man’s life means nothing and that the white man is against all other races. Funny how all other races can show their pride, but if a white man does it, he is racist. What a load of crap, but it’s happening. Then, they have to disarm all citizens. That will start a civil war. I’m not giving mine up. Too many young men have died so that I can have all of my rights, which includes the right to keep and bear arms. Ok, rant over for now.

  19. Her contract with the bank doesn’t mention masks. It probably doesn’t mention clothing either. What does that have to do with anything? I will answer this again since a couple of times doesn’t seem to be enough. There is no contract that allows her access to the bank lobby with no rules. The Americans with Disabilities Act says that you can deny access if it is for safety of other patrons of the business but even in this case, she made no such claim of a disability. Her only stance was and is, I don’t have to. If they denied a person access because the person was in a wheelchair or walked with crutches, that would violate the ADA because it cannot have an effect on someone else. She was denied for not wearing a mask which is a health concern for other people. The bank is required to make reasonable accommodations. That could be walking up to a drive through since she claimed to be pulling a rig or they could have brought the papers outside to her. But again, she never claimed that she couldn’t wear a mask, only that she didn’t have to comply. Her response should have been to leave and discuss it outside. She chose instead to violate the law, which she already had before the officer arrived. Even on the police body cam, she was making no contractual demand. She said the governor told her through his executive order that she could stay. She was wrong, the officer told her she was wrong and she could have stepped outside to discuss it. She chose to stand on her ignorant of the law ground. There is no constitutional or Texas legal grounds for her to demand being on that property. But I can feel the response that coming.... what if you don’t like the law...

  26. That part always seems to go over the heads of some people. I have seen so many threads on this topic and people get emotional about “liberty!”..... Yet completely ignore the liberty of private property. Conservatives/libertarians that claim to want less government intervention (and I agree) in this case want the government to step in and force a private property owner to not control access to their own property. I wonder if they believe it should be that way at their home. Anyone that wants to come in, can and you cannot stop them or set rules.

  28. I'm not saying I know anything about the situation or anything, because I don't. But I do know that there is ALWAYS more than one side to a story. And I know that just because something appears in a news article doesn't make it factual. I think we can all agree to that. We'll see I guess. I know not to long ago Hamshire Fannett went after a coach for "over disciplining" so to speak.. and it turned out to be misleading. I'll wait until the facts come out before stating my opinion. Which is what all should do.

  31. I carry concealed under LEOSA when I am off duty. However, there are places I still cannot carry when signs are posted. I am not above the Law and even though I may have good intentions I still must obey and take heed to posted and or verbal rules of a business or private property. If I come over to your house as private citizen and you just so happen to see my concealed weapon and you ask me to leave. I must obey and leave. Over 500,000 people young and old have lost the lives to COVID and there are new variants that are out. Just put the mask on. I have Cancer and many other health issues. I truly appreciate and thank all who do wear the mask.

  33. I realize if you would like to make up your own laws Texas law says it if you’re on property and fail to leave after being toody or have been given notice, you are guilty of criminal trespass. I think the actual law has been posted on here a couple of times. You can choose to ignore it if you wish but it is a lot. As the saying goes, you’re entitled to your opinion but you’re not entitled to your own facts. The fact is she was told to leave several times by management and the officer. She refused. That is criminal trespass in Texas. A couple of days later after she got out of jail, she got on television and stated exactly the same thing. She was told to leave and she refused in her own words. Basically she confessed to the crime.

  34. Public access has nothing to do with trespassing. Private property does. She broke the law, did it on camera and then got on a news interview and stated that she did it. I guess even her admission is not enough when you don’t like the argument.

  37. Exactly!! As much as I don’t like wearing the mask, if I go into a privately owned business that requires one to be worn, I will put it on. This woman was looking for confrontation, and when it found her, she wants to cry foul. She’s just plain stupid, imo. She got what she deserved.

  38. Buddy, the mask mandate is stupid. Even without it, a privately owned business can require it. What would it hurt for her to have put on the mask and close her account. Hopefully she has enough in her account to pay the self-imposed fines she will incur. I think she should take whatever she has left in that bank and signup for anger management classes.

  39. For the people who say that the police should not have been called, what were the other options open to the bank? The first was allow her to stay against their rules. The other is to put their hands on her and physically remove her. Chapter 9 of the penal code says that you could use any force necessary to remove a person who is trespassing from your property except deadly force. Of course at the bank had done that then people would be up in arms claiming that she was assaulted. That would not be the case but that would be the claim. The last option which is what they chose, was for the bank to call the police and report a crime in progress. if a person came to visit any of you at your own home but then started an argument inside of the home, should you just allow them to stay there if they refuse to leave? Do you call the police? Or do you kick the persons butt and throw them out which is what the law says you can do? if this is a waste of police, then the police could quit responding to about 90% of what they respond to today. This case is all about freedom. It is the freedom of a private property owner to control his whole property. It does not matter if masks work or not, it does not matter if Covid is a hoax, it does not matter if Dr. Fauci is telling the truth and nothing else matters except the private property rights of the owner or manager. All the rest is a political smokescreen because some people don’t like an owner controlling his own property.
