Universal Background Checks
bullets13 and one other reacted to SmashMouth for a topic
I’ve posted many times that I’m a gun owner. I have lots and lots of them. I don’t have an issue with submitting to a basic background check, like I’ve always had to. I buy many guns from individuals where I’m not required to being submitted to screening. If I had to, I would. The fact that I can’t have a machine gun doesn’t hurt my feelings either. I want one, but I’ve never been able to legally obtain one, so I guess it never really bothered me. If they say I can’t buy anymore 100 round clips, then life will go on. As far as a waiting period, I think that’s a huge inconvenience. I’m not in favor of a 10 day wait. Not letting felons or insane folks own guns is probably a good thing. Nevertheless, none of those measures prohibit my 2nd Amendment rights. My only fear is that recent legislative steps is just the first step to making private gun ownership obsolete.2 points -

Idiots at BH for getting rid of Don Price. He was one of the best BH ever had and was very successful in ALL sports. His FB teams were the last real good teams in BH. But just like they tend to do over there... they'd rather have a big name who won championships in big schools that had completely OPPISITE demographics and abilities than BH. All the transplants want to make BH a "big" school, using "big" school mentality. Instead of remembering their history and what made them successful.1 point -
I'm not a fan of big govt, but they've always controlled our lives to some degree. i definitely do not like the trend of what they're controlling or trying to control these days.1 point
-
To be honest, yes, I think the vaccine works. Does it have long term adverse effects? Maybe. My biggest problem is with the Govt controlling our lives. Not just with Covid & mask, but in so many areas. Free speech is in danger. Gun ownership is in danger. The new national voting Bill. Travel restrictions. Climate Change restrictions. The list goes on ad nauseaum. Younger folks will adapt easier I think. Us older folks will have a harder time with all this.1 point
-
I think homemade masks help some, but obviously not like an N95 would. I was never uncomfortable wearing a cloth mask into a gas station for two minutes, but if I was a nurse on a Covid ward I'd be demanding N95's as well. I think a rope around your waist is better than nothing, but a seatbelt is a lot more effective. I totally agree with you about people wearing them incorrectly. I feel like things will get back to normal at some point. With the vaccines showing an efficacy of 96%, and basically a rate of 0 for hospitalizations and death, having 60%-70% of the country get vaccinated will make a huge difference. Factor in the folks who get covid and develop natural immunity, and those that get it and die, and there are going to be less and less possible hosts. We're already seeing an incredible decrease in cases in most places.1 point

Yep, that's the reason I was so vexed after the PNG vs FB Marshall playoff game in 2018 where after they got crop-dusted one of the PNG fans commented something to the effect that "FBM shouldn't be able to move on due to not even having 100 people in the stands for a playoff game." You have opposing fans butt-hurt about things like fan support while the FBM players are making arrangements to attend their teammate's funeral between playoff games. Kids should be commended for overcoming their environmental challenges: [Hidden Content]1 point -
I've posted this topic before, and got zero responses from the anti-gun nuts. Let's try this again, since the anti-gun nut administration is in charge. Biden has said that universal background checks should be mandatory for all gun purchases. What does he mean? What is the Liberal agenda for this? Registration? Confiscation? Let's begin. What questions should be asked on a background check that prohibits guns from being in the hands of criminals but lets law abiding citizens exercise their 2nd amendment right? Please outline these inquiries that distinguishes who qualifies and who is prohibited? Furthermore, and just importantly, who gets to add/delete/edit these questions on the background check? Do any edits/adds/deletes require a vote from a particular governing body? If someone (who knows who) decides that a speeding ticket should prohibit one from owning a gun, can that "czar" add this provision to the background checklist? Who oversees the questions asked on the form? Are these people elected? What provisions do we have to stop abuse of the background check interrogation? What questions determine qualification, what questions determine disqualification? I'm not asking what is the current format, I'm asking what is the future format...and who has authority to alter it? And as a reminder, a certain Senator has already stated that United States veterans, who have been trained in gun safety, should be disqualified. Another Senator has stated that anyone going through a divorce should be disqualified. So I'm highly interested in hearing other brain-dead rationale for disqualifications, as well as rational disqualifications. Furthermore, if someone is deemed to be too unstable as to have their constitutional right to own a firearm revoked, is that person also too unstable to vote? Should ethnicity/race continue to be one of the questions? Please outline the questions that should be asked that determines your ability to exercise your right to own a firearm? As a bonus (LOL), please specify how often a person must submit to the background check? And how much should he have to pay for the privilege of this interrogation. (I'm not even going to mention Jim Crow...the liberal dog whistle)1 point

I don't really mind background checks. For safety reasons, it's important to make sure people are who they say they are when guns are purchased. Kinda the same way it's important to make sure people are who they say they are when they're voting.1 point

Didn't want to start a whole thread but I figured I'd post this here since PAM plays Lancaster next year. As many of you know, over the years I've been an ardent defender of kids from disadvantaged backgrounds being marginalized on this site and am also a huge advocate of high school football being an avenue to mitigate kids' situations that will often end up in them becoming a statistic that's so frequently highlighted in the political forum. SW Dallas County is known for schools like Desoto, Cedar Hill, Duncanville, etc. producing high school state champions in multiple sports but it's also one of the roughest areas in the state. See neighboring Oak Cliff for example. Unfortunately a kid from that area with his whole life in front of him became one of those statistics and never got to take advantage of his opportunity: [Hidden Content]1 point -

Yep, plus the guy lied, plus he’s been vaccinated and he’s still deathly afraid. What we’ve come to expect from the Democrats - Lies, deception, illusion, and plain old 🐂💩. I honestly cannot explain why anyone would vote for them, nor will I ever understand it. I’m trying to remember any Liberal praising Biden since his election, except for the Covid money which was nothing more than a cover for the biggest theft of the American taxpayer ever. My bp getting high.1 point -
Both background checks and red flag laws are based on the premise that we have the capability of predicting behavior based on a set of arbitrary criteria. The premise is that we can prevent crime by disarming those who we think will commit a future crime. Who posses this capability? (That is rhetorical.) If you know the criteria, please lay it down on print...right here...right now. As with "no fly" lists, how do we stop abuse of these programs? All are ripe for abuse and have zero oversight for fairness. All can be good if applied by Andy Griffith, but would be suspect if applied by Barney Fife. Can you image the abuse that could happen if applied by a raging Liberal (Pelosi, Schumer, AOC)...especially the rare Liberal over-achiever that has a double digit IQ (Can't come up with an example...but I assume they exist)? And as always, when you are finished defining the qualifications of those incapable of determining their own self protection (LOL), please explain: If someone "qualifies" as incapable of practicing his constitutionally guaranteed rights, should that person qualify as incapable of determining our elected officials?1 point

Marine Father's Salute to Son!

That is a true statement. My Dad even stood at attention and saluted the flag during the National Anthem when we were watching a football game at home. It didn’t matter if it was just the two of us or a crowded room at a football party. Kept his hair high and tight even after retirement with a weekly haircut. Shaved everyday no matter what. Hell, I think he ironed his damn underwear. Lol.1 point
