Abortion?
SmashMouth and 2 others reacted to CardinalBacker for a topic
I'll agree with abortion under those limited reasons (rape, incest, life of the mother) if you'll agree that any other reasons should be illegal. Abortion Fans use those reasons to get a "foot in the door." They throw out the listed reasons while they actually believe that there should be no restrictions whatsoever. I personally feel that abortion is immoral, at least for me, anyways... but I really didn't have an opinion on legality. My opposition came when the D's made "abortion is a right regardless of a woman's ability to pay" a part of their platform. If I have no business in women's reproductive issues, then you don't need my tax dollars to fund them, either.3 points -

Defund, or abolish?
LumRaiderFan and one other reacted to tvc184 for a topic
Defund the police comes from an overthrow tactic used since Marx. If you say something enough times, people will start to believe it. You can call it brainwashing, indoctrination, re-education or whatever. In some ways it is almost like the Stockholm Syndrome where hostages start siding with the criminals that take them hostage and threaten their lives. The police are not the problem in any neighborhood but they are portrayed to be such for political gain. Like in the Michael Brown shooting in Ferguson, MO. It was put out as a story that he was surrendering on his knees. The facts, witnesses and physical evidence completely refuted that claim. The US Department of Justice and the FBI spent a year and a few million dollars and ended up with the same conclusion that the county DA did in a few days. That was there was no evidence of wrongdoing by the officer. The police were not the problem there either yet it caused nationwide riots. Even with this defund the police mantra we need to ask ourselves, does the Black community feel the same way as they are portrayed? Do the protesters represent the entire Black community? Let’s see what the Gallup Poll survey says about that in a poll released in August 2020. [Hidden Content] According to Gallup 81% of Blacks want as much police presence “or more”. Compare that to 88% of Whites and 83% of Hispanics. That seems like very similar options especially considering the beating that the police receive in the press in the Black community. Maybe even more telling is that 20% of Blacks and 24% of Hispanics want “more”’ police in they neighborhoods as opposed to 17% of Whites. So the minority communities (who the narrative is that hate the police), actually wants more of them than the White population. I can guarantee from experience, those minority communities in most cases already have a larger police presence and yet they want more. I am glad that they want more but that isn’t the narrative put out by the media who gets clicks and money by controversy and some segments that promote their own political status. From Gallup I believe it shows what I think, that there is very little differences in communities but there is no benefit to saying that in some people’s opinions. In fact it hurts some political opinions to say, we are pretty much all the same. If you look at the Gallup survey, you will find what I believe. People have very little differences and want the same things regardless of race or community including a police presence. The problem comes from people that go to great lengths to try and convince others that they are different and that “they” (elected or unelected political figures) are the answer. The only thing they are the answer to is their own power. In my opinion....2 points -

I'll answer that one. Yes on both counts...no other reasons can be used. Both are very rare and the latter is almost never, although the pro-abortion crowd will tell you different. Now, do you think these conditions would make the pro-abortion crowd happy? Absolutely not, their main concern has never been about the health of the mother and certainly isn't about the baby they want to kill.2 points -

Defund, or abolish?
LumRaiderFan reacted to bullets13 for a topic
I really think every city that wants to defund the police should get a week without them, and see how it goes. It's ridiculous. I'm all for weeding out bad police, and punishing police who break the law (not punishing police who make a reasonable decision in the moment that turns out to be a mistake), but the idea that cities are better off with out police is absurd. You can already see the effects on crime numbers in cities where police support is low. Officers are not proactive anymore. Why would you go out and beat the bushes and try to stop crime before it happens when you know that any time you do your job you could be tried and convicted in the media? Why would you do that when you might be attacked for being there? It's better to just wait for calls to come in and go after the fact and avoid confrontations.1 point -

Whoa now. You can't call Samples anything other than great. Samples went 3-7 his first year at Duncanville and the very next year had them in the regional final at 11-3. That's hardly enough time to "collect talent" from the rest of SW Dallas county. The mark of a great coach is what happens before and after you leave. Samples coached a bunch of DISD kids from some south Dallas projects to the state finals at Lincoln, lost that one on a blocked FG I believe. Lincoln has been in the gutter ever since he left. Next stop was Skyline who was mediocre before he got there to say the least. He turned them into an absolute monster, just couldn't get past Allen or SLC to win a title. He went 96-14 his last 8 years at Skyline. He left and Skyline immediately went back to being mediocre. You could probably apply your "collecting talent" comment to his time at the former east Dallas powerhouse and it would be more fitting. Duncanville had already won a title before Samples got there and has always been full of talent. They were just a sleeping giant that needed direction. True he's gotten a big time transfers like Kendrick Blackshire but he's also lost big time prospects like Chris Parsons who transferred to Red Oak after starting as freshman against North Shore in the title game. Duncanville doesn't need the transfers, they have a similar enrollment to North Shore but probably have twice the player pool to choose from. Those kids in south Dallas look at Samples like the second coming and play their butts off for him. IMO him and Steve Lineweaver have been the best coaches in the DFW in recent memory beside Joey McGuire.1 point -

"Great"? Hardly. You should think before you make a statement like that. Samples built up Duncanville by running around south of I-20 collecting talent from places like Cedar Hill, DeSoto, and Lancaster, not by coaching. Samples would be another overhyped candidate with a glitzy resume. Thats the last thing BH needs after Westerberg.1 point -

Thats exactly right. He underperformed. I don't blame BH for swinging for the fences 5 years ago. BH wanted to make a "big splash" with the hire and they did. The Westerberg hire did put BH on the statewide football map for all of 15 minutes of fame, but it ended there. Their intention was good but their thought process was quite flawed. Apparently they did not comprehend Westerberg was basically an illusion, without Kyler Murray surrounded by other move in talent at Allen, Westerberg would not have had a prayer of winning state. On the other side of the equation, it has been a bonanza for Westerberg. He came for the money and wow did he rake it in. Someone said 2 million in total compensation for the Westerbergs, with $666,667 per playoff win. Tell that result to BH five years ago and they would have run from Westerberg. Its time to move on for BH. They can't un-spend the money or undo the hire, so all they can do is move on and make wiser choices in the future. BH should focus on "bang for the buck", and not let themselves be infatuated with overhyped candidates with glitzy resumes.1 point -

There you go again. You start off with an accurate assessment of the problem, but then veer off into “but it’s not their fault. Slavery 150 years ago=poverty now.” It’s a lie. A big fat lie spread by apologists who prefer to ignore the real causes because it’s easier to blame others for our own misfortunes. I’ve never once accused anybody of being “lesser” than me…. Because in my heart I don’t believe that… God created us all as equals but what happens after that is our own doing. I’m not familiar with Cameron Terrell is this him?[Hidden Content] 2. Once again, you start off correctly, then swing off into “but it’s not really their fault.” Murder is murder, whether you’re wearing athletic gear shooting somebody over crack in the inner city or a wife shooting her cheating husband on the other side of town. They both pulled pulled the trigger and took a life. The problem is that the first scenario we’ll all focus on how the kid didn’t have a father in his life, lived in poverty, etc, etc…. Which has nothing to do with the actual crime committed. NOTHING. 3. That’s the funny part that you don’t understand. I’m almost 50 and haven’t inherited anything… my parents are both still alive. My first grandmother died young pre ‘92 without a will so my mom/uncle had to give their inherited interest to the family home back to my grandfather. He later remarried a couple of times and eventually died before his last wife. But they both had wills despite only owning a house worth <$75k when they passed. My mom and uncle inherited and the house was sold. On the other side my grandfather died first and his will left everything to my grandmother. My grandmother’s will left everything to my dad, aunt, and uncle. It also was probated and the only real property (a single family dwelling) was deeded to the aunt who already lived there caring for my grandmother. There actually were some other assets in that estate, but they didn’t pass all of the way down to me. Other than my grandfather’s Model 12 Winchester or a few of the other one’s tools, I haven’t inherited anything from anybody. The fact is that even though they didn’t have much, their business was handled. Even funnier? Every one of them grew up dirt floor poor! If you live in America and are born poor and die poor, you’re just bad with money. That’s a fact. You make bad decisions.1 point -

The locals (not you guys, uh...other locals) have changed their stories as the results came in. The hire was high profile when it happened. As it should be. Highly paid. TW had a resume of titles. TW had players of the highest caliber that played at Allen. If 5 years ago, somebody had said "3 playoff wins in 5 years", the locals would have disagreed and said you're crazy. He underperformed. I have a few other, too long, posts about this being all about the context of the hire. This wasn't just another hire. Wasn't supposed to be. The idea (from the locals) was that here was a guy getting paid state title money, coming from a state title school, going to a district that had the money and culture to bring home...state titles. That didn't happen. 39-17 in 5 years. 3 playoff wins. 2 District titles. (A district that has been dominated by 2-3 teams the last 10 years). About 3 years in, I asked when BH will say "Yeah, didn't work out and we need to move on." Looks like TW made the decision before that point. Someone posted a list of coaches that have put away some titles with other schools. What makes anybody think the results will be any different than the last 5 years? Just not so sure paying the most money for the most successful coach on the market makes a program more successful.1 point

Yes it is. Almost 4 decades of almost unimaginable sights that the public can only guess at and a frequency most most people did not know exists. In a department that averages 8-9 officers per shift, I have been to over 1,000 death scenes from all causes (several children), in the hospital maybe 6 times in the line of duty, 5 shooting incidents where I shot at someone, was shot at up close enough to actually see the gun pointing at me or my partner killing a guy about 10 feet from me, talked to people as they were dying, a few high speed chases including drive by shooting suspects, undercover operations, probably over 50, 000 contacts with the public, participated in more than 10,000 arrests, 10 years on swat, 30 years of teaching at the police academy............. I could go on but yes it becomes ingrained. A couple of weeks before I retired I ran into this post on Facebook. It was completely accidental but almost appropriate. Another officer in a police only forum was asking what it was like to retire because he had a couple of days to go or something like that. I was only a few days behind him and there were plenty of usual responses such as congratulations, you will love it, it will take a while but you will “eventually” wonder why you didn’t do it earlier, welcome to the club and so on. One said this however and I saved it..... >>>>>Author unknown; When Cops Retire When a good cop leaves the 'job' and retires to a better life, many are jealous, some are pleased and yet others, who may have already retired, wonder. We wonder if he knows what he is leaving behind, because we already know. We know, for example, that after a lifetime of camaraderie that few experience, it will remain as a longing for those past times. We know in the law enforcement life there is a fellowship which lasts long after the uniforms are hung up in the back of the closet . We know even if he throws them away, they will be on him with every step and breath that remains in his life. We also know how the very bearing of the man speaks of what he was and in his heart still is. These are the burdens of the job. You will still look at people suspiciously, still see what others do not see or choose to ignore and always will look at the rest of the law enforcement world with a respect for what they do; only grown in a lifetime of knowing. Never think for one moment you are escaping from that life. You are only escaping the 'job' and merely being allowed to leave 'active' duty. So what I wish for you is that whenever you ease into retirement, in your heart you never forget for one moment that 'Blessed are the Peacemakers for they shall be called children of God,' and you are still a member of the greatest fraternity the world has ever known. One could say it's harder to live up to the expectations than no expectations. One also could say Sigler could have warranted the COY. Lost 90% of his scoring from last year, started 2 freshmen, 2 soph., 1 senior, with the bulk of the team that saw significant playing time being freshmen and soph. Took the team to the regional finals once again (7th straight year) defeating a heavily favored Houston Yates team along the way. Two of their district losses due to having to play the JV in those games because of Covid. You could say Lumberton benefited from a terrible DEC decision. IMO, if Silsbee doesn't have to play their JV in those games, they win district. Again, just think Green deserved it more.1 point -
