I would be curious to know how many of our youngsters know what happened on this date. The greatest generation earned their title and paid dearly for the right to be free. I doubt we have too many (if any) who served during that time on our message board, but I bet we all know or have someone in our family who served. Thank-you for the sacrifices that were made that day and all of our WWII vets. God bless America!!!!1 point -

Resisting arrest is like playing in traffic. You're assuming a lot risk. I just love the criminal mindset that has infected our land. "I was breaking the law(s), but HE can't break the rules when he's dealing with MY breaking of the rules!!!!" It's so freakin' insane.1 point -

I certainly don’t see a lawsuit, and I get the “follow the rules”. I just hope Nederland changes it to allow the Military Sash. If they don’t, don’t let your kid wear one. Based on what’s going on in America today, you have to be strict with rules are it’ll get way out of hand.1 point

I’ve read estimates that we anticipated a million casualties if we invaded Japan (killed & wounded). Most don’t realize the fanaticism of the Japanese at the time. They were actually training their women & children how to fight. Remembering the fact that hundreds of Japanese old men, women and children jumped to their deaths at Okinawa, it’s not hard to imagine the death toll. And there’s no doubt the dropping of the two Atomic bombs, despite the tragic loss of life, actually saved hundreds of thousands (if not millions) of lives.1 point

Yeah that was a big get for them. McCain was no earth shattering news. He’s been there since the spring after a brief stop at Clarendon. It was widely known he was going to be playing for the Seahawks next season. And obviously that is huge for Lamar PA as well.1 point

it probably should be June 13, not the 15th. That’s when the actual battle started with the shelling. Just as important is debatable as it was a continued steppingstone. This was unlike the invasion of Normandy where it was the beginning but certainly it was very important. I think the biggest by far accomplishment of the turkey shoot was the forward air bases and allowing to B29’s to basically level Japan. I read a book many years ago (before the Internet) I believe called, A Torch To The Enemy by Martin Caidin. It was about the B 29 bombing campaign over Japan. I cannot remember the exact statistics but basically any city that has at least a 20,000 population in the entire country, was at least 50% destroyed. Many cities were virtually leveled. While people talk about the atomic bomb and destruction, the fire bombing of Tokyo in March 1945 what is the most destructive rate in history. I am going off of memory but I think something like 140,000 people were killed in one night in about 20 square miles of the city was completely destroyed. Well over 1 million people were left homeless. Because the destruction of Japan by air before their surrender was so devastating, the Americans chose a couple of cities to be completely spared. This was for the upcoming atomic bomb raids. They wanted to see the effectiveness of the weapon but could not in most cities because they had already been leveled. That is why Hiroshima and Nagasaki were basically untouched before the atomic bombs. They were preserved as a test case because the rest of my Japan had already been leveled.1 point

I'm no youngster, but I didn't know either. My great uncle survived it. The stories he could tell. He was in the front, and saw the 2 guys next to him die as soon as the gate dropped. Shame I was too young to understand, but that always stuck with me.1 point -

LAINE SAMBROOKS NAMED NEW HFC AT SPLENDORA
Separation Scientist reacted to Pot Stirrer for a topic
There has to be some blame on Admin for the lateness. The coaches carousel will happen and coaches will do whatever they think is best for themselves. The lateness has to be an administrative issue most likely money and bureaucracy. When was Humble officially opened? It feels like a month. Now, Splendora is going through the process at the end of school and how many coaches are going with him? Hopefully they have someone in mind and hire quickly and Humble hires the coaches going with Shultz quickly. I hate seeing jobs come open late because it ultimately hurts the athletes. Admin should be there to protect the athletes by hiring quicker and reassigning (if need be) earlier. Unfortunately, coaching jobs will always be open in June.1 point -
PNG gets new DC
Separation Scientist reacted to scat_trap for a topic
You're pointing out anomalies in the state of Texas. This point in an argument always bothers me. People bring up teams that will always be in position to play in state championships to compare teams to. On paper there are a lot of teams "demographically" that could compete with the teams you put up there. In fact, look at the demographics of a place like Kingwood Park and College Park in Conroe and try and figure out why they aren't winning more football games. I don't necessarily think you saying that to compare PNG to those schools, but I see that argument all over the place and it doesn't matter if PNG is tied to it or not.1 point
