  2. Without a doubt they will be. Our rivalry has lost its relevance. Coworker thinks with Peevy they'll beat WOS this year. I just think its gonna take a couple years for his system to grow the atheletes. But they could surprise any team in this district if not taken seriously. I also see they have an extra week to get ready for their 1st district game against Huffman-Hargrave.

  6. I 100% agree with you on that. The thing is the state championship posts are coming from people outside of BH. I’m saying the community has a whole is happy to get the playoffs and have some success. If somehow we catch lightning in a bottle and stars align and we pull a Crosby last year, Great. If we move up to 5A D1 or even 6A then we are in major trouble and have to hope for 4th place finish. I think we know in football that we don’t have the “Joe’s”, but we compete and make the playoffs in all sports. Schools with “ athletes” aka black kids can’t all say that. I know it’s a football thread, but when was the last time Beaumont United or PAM went to the playoffs in baseball or softball? I think we do pretty well and will continue to do pretty well with what we have to work with.

  7. I fly US and Texas flags. When they get tattered, I just go buy a new one. Who is she anyway? Never heard of her. Somehow celebrity gives one a political edge…..NOT!!!!!

  8. I think I read somewhere that they’re replacing the dividers between east and westbound in an effort to alleviate flooding. Not sure if that’s today?

  9. No, but it’s substantial. $1000 for all employees and a retention stipend of 4% up to $2700. I’m a little grouchy they waited until I left.

  10. Yup. my wife, the lady she replaced, and the lady that replaced my wife all work in the same district now, and it isn’t BISD.

  12. Nope, the QB is back. It was a freshman back who was newcomer of the year, I think his name was Green.

  13. 1000x everything else but this. As for apart as it seems, my friend. We are actually much closer. If we could just focus on what brings us together. Instead of what drives us away.

  15. I agree, I think they might be another team like Livingston was last season.

  16. Pretty sure Livingston is losing one of their studs to Atascocita, wonder who they'll try to replace him with........ After Huffman I think the last 3 spots are up for grabs.

    BISD Raise & Stipend

There are diag vacancies in most area schools. They need to increase the pay to keep up
    1 point
  20. To a degree. They’ve done okay giving raises to teachers over the years. Next year I would’ve made close to $10k more with my experience than teachers did when I was hired on 15 years ago. They’re also offering some substantial stipends this year. It still won’t be enough to stem the tide of employees leaving, although it should slow it down some.

  21. Yup. Turnover is normal, but BISD has an unprecedented number of openings. Back when I started BISD paid better than everyone else, but a lot of the local districts have caught up or gotten close, and that was about the only advantage BISD had over them.

  25. Under the new Texas law, you do not have to be a citizen of the US or Texas.. Any person within the state of Texas whether they be the resident of another state or even a legal alien, will benefit from this law. The Texas LTC will still be offered and will give certain privileges that Constitutional carry does not and part of that is carrying in other states which recognize the Texas LTC. Another benefit is being able to carry concealed in certain areas on campus of colleges. Another is not committing a federal felony for picking up a child at a school which is a federal crime unless a person has a state license. It is also the benefit of being able to buy any firearm from a federally licensed dealer, as an example Academy sporting goods, without the need for a background check. Basically if you’re talking about just reciprocity, nothing changes. Texas LTC will still be offered and has those listed benefits and will still be recognized by approximately 20 other states. We actually had reciprocity with other states however several of them have gone to Constitutional carry also. Counting the constitutional carry states and the LTC reciprocity, I think they were about 38 states where you can carry if you have a Texas LTC.

  26. Yes. There are also several laws that the LTC gives more rights. As an example, federal law prohibits be carrying on school campuses or within 1000 feet of the school unless you are licensed by the state to have a handgun. So a person with a Texas LTC can have his handgun in his car while he picks up his kids at school. A person who does not have an LTC is committing a federal felony. Will the person ever be caught? Maybe not but if the police make some kind of call or there’s some kind of incident and they discover your weapon, it could be turned over to the ATF and prosecuted and the person may end up in federal prison. Again, that may not be likely but if you want to know the letter of the law, if you carry a handgun within 1000 feet of a school campus and you do not have a Texas LTC, you’re committing a federal felony. Similarly Texas law allows people to have concealed handgun on college campuses including some buildings with restrictions set by the college if the person has an LTC.. A person without an LTC has no such privilege to carry on campus and again, would be committing a Texas felony. There might be others that I cannot think of off the top of my head but the LTC gives you slightly more locations you can carry legally both under state law and federal law.

  29. In Port Arthur, while our kids play baseball in little league, the focus as they get older is on football and basketball with some track mixed in. Those kids who are good at baseball end up in the Bubble or at West Brook. Like all sports, baseball is year around and most of the opportunities for scholarships are in football and basketball.....

  31. Word! Why aren't people scrutinizing BU and PAM etc. about their lack of athletic diversity? Why aren't people scrutinizing the constantly unsuccessful Hispanic HISD teams about their lack of diversity? You never hear any of that. I don't know why EVERYTHING has to be about race, but if it really, really does, lets take a hard look: 6A-I: Westlake 52 (almost all white) Southlake Carroll 34 (almost all white) 6A-II Katy 51 (mostly white but call it Mixed) Cedar Hill 14 (all black) 5A-I Denton Ryan 59 (mostly black) Cedar Park (mostly white) 14 5A-II Aledo 56 (almost all white) Crosby 21 (mixed) 4A-I Argyle 49 (all white?) Lindale 21 (mixed) 4A-II Carthage 70 (mixed) Gilmer 14 (mixed) On top of that, the two 3A Champs, Jim Ned and Canadian were all white So your 8 winners in the 4 largest classifications are White or mostly white - 5 teams Mixed - 2 teams Black - 1 team Bottom line is, white teams did very well in 2020-21 but almost anyone can win in any year. So, why are people sooo compelled to pick apart the "white teams" but stay stone cold silent on all black and all hispanic teams that don't win big? Lets put race aside. Let BH be BH, let BU be BU, and let everyone else just be who they are without racial judgment. Lets put race aside just enjoy the games!

  34. If someone doesn’t want to play for BH then so be it. We’ll be just fine. Nobody here is begging for anyone to move here to play football. We’ll still make the playoffs with the kids we have that abide by the rules put in place. The folks on the outside can keep on coming up with whatever agenda they want. We keeping the BH way unless the community, school board, and superintendent change it. Like I’ve said before, I could careless about someone’s hair length, color, sexual preference, or whatever, but mine will abide by the rules in place. When they graduate HS, they can color their hair purple and grow in to their ankles. Btw, that kid your talking about didn’t play football, in fact I don’t think he played any sport.

  36. The schools absolutely should find a way to monetize it...they should 100% charge for the streams
    1 point
  37. I do believe fewer people will go to the game but I dont think the number will be significant. The schools could always charge to view the game. Anyways, last season I watched 35-40 games . Would not have watched 90% of the games if streams were not available.
