  5. I have a friend that was buying coke in Houston and taking it to Chicago and tripling his money in the early 90s. Just a lucrative road trip. His scheme was that he owned a wrecker and would literally drag a car up there and leave it behind. They're not going to stop a wrecker hauling a junker, right? Wrong. One day he picks up a hitchhiker and THEN gets pulled over for speeding. The cop has them both out of the truck and eventually asks if they have any contraband.... and this hitchhiker starts kicking around at the ground and stammers that he actually has some week in his backpack. My friend is pretty quick on his feet so he starts yelling at the hitchhiker and eventually jumps on him. "Do you know what they're going to do to me? I gave you a ride and now I'm going to jail with you!!!" The cop gets them separated and my buddy jumps on the hitchhiker again and the cop is like "Boy, you need to get in that truck and get on down the road.... I've got this under control." So the hitchhiker was in custody when my buddy drove off with the real weight stowed in that car he was towing. He did make it to the pen eventually, btw. So I guess it has a happy ending.

  10. We at SETXSports.com have been toying with the idea of a weekly podcast for high school football. On Tuesday nights 6 to 7:30 PM. The show would feature interviews with coaches, a look back at games played the last week and previews and predictions on games later in the week. We will have our broadcasters available and we will even have time for texted questions. We feel that this could be an enhanced version of our forums. We would need some sponsors to help us get it on the air, but we want to know what you all think and would it be something that you would support?

  13. The UIL is just like the NCAA in terms of consistency. Article lays it out perfectly. At the district level you’re left with rival coaches, who may be swayed by how good or bad the team receiving the transfer is, deciding eligibility of a player. At the state level you’re left with the UIL making a judgement decision on why a player may have moved from one parent’s house to another. In what other instance would you allow someone who knows nothing about the situation to tell you why YOUR child came to live with you? As long as the parents don’t implicitly state the child moved for athletic purposes then whatever reason they give should suffice and therefore grant the kid immediate eligibility. The schools that have it figured out have it so figured out that the policing of other schools creates even more of an advantage for them.

  15. Race is defined as a category of humankind that shares certain distinctive physical traits. Race is usually associated with biology and linked with physical characteristics, such as hair texture or skin color and covers a relatively narrow range of options. And, that's from Merriam-Webster and you expect us to believe that Racism has nothing to do with skin color? Stop with the ridiculousness!

  18. Hey Dj I have known about this for a long time that #19 was returning to the team. Summer workout is hard also I hear lol. Imo if someone does not want to play QB and wants to play another position they should be allowed to do so by tryouts. On the other hand #19 is a really good football player and a kid who makes mistakes in judgement sometimes. I believe in his talents and him as a person. Can we play or tryout more than one player at the QB position and still have a productive season, I think so. I'm glad the utility man is back.

  22. Good read, but to think the system works because the small number of ineligibility, well I think that's a little disingenuous. I also think the idea of district committees having the ultimate vote could sometimes prove to be a little conflicting.

  24. We had a great postman for a long time. He liked to stop and talk you're head off. When obviously you were waiting on something. But the new carrier, and I use that term loosely, is horrible. 5 times in the last six months, the USPS has allowed me to meet more of my neighbors. Either I get their mail, or they get mine. Wonder how many times they've just kept it. I switch to as much "paperless" as possible, but it still happens.

  27. If that's true, why build all new facilities? People leave jobs for many reasons. Coaches at WOS are good, and good coaches are in high demand. Due to so many teachers leaving the district, they're offering new hires a $10,000 signing bonus. Teachers are leaving for a reason... and I doubt it's because of football.

  33. Yes, we could what if all kinds of scenarios. What if he said, yes I have a bill of sale here for 50 cars and they’re going to be trucked back to South Carolina? Here is a number you can call to confirm. Having worked in that position I would suspect it did not quite go like that. Of course the guy can shut his mouth and not answer any questions whatsoever and he has that right. My guess is that he opened his mouth and they easily were able to prove or suspected that he was lying. I have made some of my best arrest by people who agree to talk and it is not usually hard to prove that someone is lying even the side of the street. If there are two people and they agree to talk it is so simple to discover a lie, it’s almost like cheating. I was riding with a couple of Beaumont PD officers one time and they made an interdiction stop. A white male with Georgia license plates was heading eastbound in a pick up. The pick up was registered in his name. He agreed to talk and he gave some story about he left a week ago to go visit a friend in Houston and he was on the way back home. Then they start asking what his friends name was and all of a sudden he did not remember. They asked him where the friend lived so they can send Houston PD by the check and he did not remember that either. The officers would take turns talking to him while he was outside of his truck. He would talk freely with a little nervousness but every time an officer got near the tailgate he would lock up stiff as a board and shut up. It was almost comical. Walk a few feet away and he would loosen up and start talking again. Then the big question, do you mind us looking around your truck? The answer was no, I don’t mind. One of the officers looked under the truck and saw that the spare tire was brand new. It had no mud on it whatsoever and looked like it had just been mounted the day before. So then the follow up question. How long have you had this truck? He might’ve said two or three years. Have you had any flats? No. Are all of your tires original including a spare? Yes. Hmmmm…… Well……. The officer took the spare out from under the truck and rolled it down the side of the shoulder. For some reason it rolled faster at some spots and slower at some spots like there was something heavy inside. Then the tire was bounced a few times and we noticed part of the tire was more stiff in the other parts. The pickup was take him to the city garage about 3 miles away. The spare tire was opened and 6 kilos of marijuana popped out. If a person opens his mouth he decides to lie, it is not usually very hard to figure it out. At the Police Academy I have a allowed two cadets to go outside and make up any story that they wished. The premise was that they had just robbed someplace but they had time to get their stories together. I would give them as much time as I needed to make up the story. They could even write it down on paper if they wanted to. I would then bring one back in the class and question him. I would then have him leave the class and bring the other person in and question him in front of the other cadets. It was almost comical how quickly it was discovered that they were lying. It is because you cannot anticipate all the questions that will be asked. A person has the right to remain silent. If he gives up that write anything he says can and will be used against him in a court of law. I suspect in this case and going by the article, the guy decided he would talk, probably believing he could give a reasonable explanation to whatever they ask.

    Hagar’s Ramblings

I had an encounter with Jeff co swat once. I was a maintenance man at a complex in bmt. Got a page about 2am about a major sewer backup. As was wheeling the snake down to the apartment, 2 swat guys came around the corner with guns drawn. Those red dots hit my chest and they immediately split and went right around me. I left the snake were it was... I had another mess to clean up.

My theme song, Glory Days by Bruce Springsteen. When I was on the swat team up until I was about 45 years old, I would run up to 8 miles a night to stay in shape. I never got into really heavy weights but weighing about 180 pounds, I was bench pressing 250. On one raid at a drug house, I was the ram officer who had to knock the door open. I wore about 35 pounds of body armor and weapons and carried a 72 pound ram two blocks through an alley running to be able to sneak up on the house quickly. Boom, the door came down. After 10 years of doing that I got off the team. That was 20 years ago. Now I am not sure that I can walk two blocks😂😂😂

    Hagar’s Ramblings

This may ramble even more, so bear with me. As humans we have mental human limitations (at least I do). I can’t imagine a universe with no end. In my mind, there should be a border, a drop off, a wall - something. Can’t even begin to imagine what would be on the other side of that - something. That mental limitation prevents us from understanding God’s love for us, until something happens to enlighten us somewhat. I use to ask myself, how could God continue to love us when we’re constantly ignoring him and being.....well, bad. Then I got enlightened. Prior to going in Marines, our Grandson worked at Tractor Supply. One day he heard a noise from a pallet full of feed stacked 4 to a layer with a hole in the middle. At the bottom of that hole was a kitten about a month old, skinny & full of fleas. He got her out & brought her home & him & his Dad bathed her and de-fleaed her. He couldn’t keep her in his apartment so she ended up with me & my wife. Took her to the Vet when a little older for shots and neutered. We hadn’t had pets in forever. Didn’t really want one, but inevitably we fell in love with “Maise”. Now some of you have never had cats. They’re to heck & gone from dogs, who (for the most part) are loving & obedient. Cats think they run things. Rarely display affection, and ignore commands. Point is, we still love her - despite the ignoring & lack of affection from her, yep, we still love her. I guess that’s the way God loves us, even when we ignore him, and ignore his Commandments. I hope his post hasn’t offended anyone. It could be construed as being sacrilegious I guess, but certainly not my intention. I do find it amazing that I can learn something about (from?) God from a durn cat, I guess there’s a little bit of God all around us if we just look for him.
