Weekend For Orange County Football
Hagar and one other reacted to Tim Riggins for a topic
Under center. No spread that I recall seeing back in those days. Today's wide receivers were called "split ends" back then. Typical plays had a split end and a tight end, two tight ends on obvious running plays. Backfield was usually 2 halfbacks and a halfback. Sometimes one of the halfbacks would move into what is called the "slot" today.2 points -

Hagar, you are right about that passing attack. Larry Tilton was QB1 and had 18 TD passes that set an OC record at the time. Was district MVP. His favorite target was Jerry Wheeler. Wheeler had 11 TDs receiving that year and was leading OC receiver.2 points -
Texas city stingarees at Crosby cougars
#COUGAR08 and one other reacted to Cougar14.2 for a topic
It’s time for the cream to start rising to the top of the coffee. We can be overly humble and talk about how every team needs to be respected, blah blah blah. If we’re being straight up though, a team with aspirations to get back to Arlington should dispatch this TC team with relative ease. Crosby has played better the first six games of the season this year than we did last year. Lot of talk about the 2pt try in the BH game but no mention that that’s probably a game we lose regardless had it been played a few weeks earlier. We’re manufacturing a bunch of points without huge offensive statistics, that’s a key performance indicator of a dangerous team. Crosby doesn’t have a bunch of usable depth yet this year but I think we played about eight sophomores in the second half at some point last Friday. From an int, to some great tackles, to a few pancake blocks, to both rushing and passing tds, I would say they all produced in their given reps. At some point we’re going to have to be able to give Kirkwood and Womack legitimate breaks. Crosby playing well enough against TC so that the youngsters can come in and show that, would benefit the Cougars a lot moving forward. Defensively we probably need to figure out what to do when Casey gets a bunch of attention and we can’t get pressure with 3 or 4? Feels like we give up too many passing yards when we can’t get to the QB consistently. This game will be a good test for the run defense though. It’s the point in the season where Crosby needs to start ending dreams.2 points -

Nederland will get their 💩 together this week and bounce back.texas city is a very good defense quick and attacks on every play give the stingrays credit where it is due.2 points -
Yep. TC’s defensive line control the game, period. Changing the running back would not have mattered. You still have to have a lane to run through. A different runner might have gotten a few more yards but would not have been a game changer. Nederland came into the game probably averaging over 300 yards a game. Their offensive line simply did not match up with Texas City. After the rain shortened WOS game they are averaging 38 in the 4 game before TC. Even with the defensive shutout by TC, Nederland is still averaging 30 points a game in the last five games. I’m not sure why some people have a hard time saying that we just ran into a tougher team on that night and move on. I never predict high school football games. For all I know a Dayton might win 68-0 but I wouldn’t take much from the Texas City game. In their last five games they’ve given up 10 points on defense.2 points

Lack of discipline you say?? Found part of this sweet essay on discipline. Seem like the parents and the school over there in Mont Belvieu need to step it up according to this great piece of literature! Discipline is something that is severely lacking in today's public schools. This lack of discipline is something I have witnessed from the time I was in grade school. Every year the teachers and faculty became less and less strict, and I feel that it has not stopped in the two years I have been out of school. There are many parties to blame, though, not just the teachers and schools. The causes of poor discipline in public schools are parents, lawyers and politicians, and our schools and faculty. Parents play a major role in the declining discipline in schools today. Parents are becoming more and more lenient when raising their children, so their children are becoming more and more spoiled, lazy, and out of control, which they display in class. If children were afraid of their parents and of being punished, then they would not get in much trouble at school for fear of their parents when they get home. If parents would permit the schools to exercise more discipline instead of forbidding most forms of discipline in schools, more children would behave better and get more of an education. Parents need to take control of their children before our schools can, and they need to allow our schools to keep their children under control.2 points -

LCM really has played a competitive schedule so far and has gotten better every single week. I think Vidor has played a pretty competitive schedule, but having only one game in a month was nice getting healthy but the rust showed against Splendora. I'm so excited for Friday, and I hope its some good football weather but regardless ill be in attendance!1 point -
this is it for maybe the dist champership

The history of these two teams is very competitive. The hitting will be intense on both sides. IMO if WOS is going to advance in the playoffs, we can't use one man all the time. I don't want to be a team that has only a one trick pony. Yes I'm liking the new play calling. The key for WOS is to play 4 quarters, mix up the play calling, and get the win.1 point -

50% chance of rain friday. I would think it would help Vidor in their favor, but with them and ball security and a wet football? Idk. Mathews said in a interview after the game, that they're gonna get it corrected, and if any group can do it, it's these kids. Lawd, I hope so! LCM seemed to struggle against Jasper with a wet field so, it'll definitely even things out I would think.1 point -

Give me Dayton at home 31-27 over Ned next week. Broncos playing to stay alive and Ned looking they might start treading water. That 35 they put up on PNG might have a little more gravitas considering BH just scored the same thing. I said last week that I wouldn’t be surprised to see Dayton ruin someone’s season. Ned might be ripe for the picking right now.1 point -
