Prayers for Ben Featherston
Steven Avery and 4 others reacted to SmashMouth for a topic
Ben Featherston played on the D-Line with my son for the Raiders. He graduated this year with Academic Scholarships to Baylor. He is an awesome kid. Please read the Facebook post from his family below: “Update for Ben Featherston! 10/31/21 For Ben, this weekend has been a time of rest and stabilization in preparation for a big surgery tomorrow. As y'all know, Ben's body remains in a state of instability which is preventing his liver & kidneys from recovering. This instability is coming from his legs which were severely injured from lack of blood flow from cardiogenic shock when Ben's illness started on 9/29/21. Now, 32 days later, his legs have not been able to recover despite numerous debridements & surgeries. And, as his legs worsen, they release toxins into his body that keep his blood pressure unstable & keep his liver and kidneys very sick. This is very much a life or death situation. The only solution in stopping this viscous cycle is amputation. Ben will have both legs amputated above the knee tomorrow. Ben is aware of the situation and has shown strength beyond his age. We have told him he has an army of Drs and nurses fighting for him and a second army of friends and family fighting for him and lastly, God's army surrounding him. His fight continues to amaze us!Thank you for your continued love & prayers. Ben needs them now more than ever!” I beg of each of you that reads this to say a simple prayer for Ben’s health and recovery. I wish you could know what a great and decent kid this young man is. Thank you.5 points -

According to Wisconsin law I believe he was committing a misdemeanor because he was under 18 years old. I don’t know if that negates self-defense, it should not but you can never tell with a state law or what a DA will try to convince the jury to believe. If he was committing a crime that caused the attack on him, I believe that probably negates it. Like if he was breaking into someone’s house and they attacked him and he used deadly force, it would be unlawful because he cannot use a deadly force to further a criminal act. On the other hand if he was smoking marijuana which is also a misdemeanor and someone tried to kill him, does he have the right to self defense or would he lose it simple because he’s committing a misdemeanor that has nothing to do with the attack? I believe that him unlawfully carrying a rifle does not negate the right to self-defense but you could never tail about another state.2 points

Vidors defense will be the difference. Secondary grew up quick, D-Line is what it is...NASTY, and LB's will hit you in the mouth. As far as offense goes...hold on to ball, ride #2, 21, 14, & 26. 24-13 Vidor "Kill'em all, let the paramedics sort'em out"2 points -

The fact that we're still having this conversation when "White Chicks" can be purchased, rented, or streamed is a bad joke. The idea that "I can do it, but you can't" in regards to costumes, words, etc, is possibly the dumbest thought pattern that has been in place since actual racism was an issue.2 points -

Coldspring vs Diboll for District Championship
TrojanWarrior08 and one other reacted to 59n Sports for a topic
I dont think you can use the Shepherd game as a comparison.. an early penalty by the trojans set the tempo for the Pirates. Coldspring has been playing lights out on both sides of the ball even with the injuries they have had. I like to compare the wins over the district schedule and make my prediction on that and what I have seen... Talking to the Crockett Broadcast team last week, They feel like we are coing to run through Diboll... I think it will be a 2 score game for the Trojans.2 points -

It’s hard to comment without being speculative. The lady who brought it to the school stated "We're no longer going to be quiet and let this go on.”… Let what go on? Was the student being knowingly disrespectful by dressing up as Tyler Perry’s Madea? I'm at a loss.2 points -

So if this pic took place off campus at a private party and was not a school sanctioned, sponsored party, then why is the school involved or even brought into this? So private parties are now the business of the school? This is so lame.2 points -

And saw them play Silsbee then PA. Played without Princess. Still dominated Silsbee and PA. Still lots to work on, but I love to see the 6’1” PG and a really good freshman guard that got like 8 steals vs Silsbee and like 10 vs. PA. (2 quarter games with running clock). I say we’re poised for yet another deep playoff run. Let’s see how it unfolds…1 point -
Bottom line...We beat ya'll. By 10, at the Rez when it counted. Better luck next year, Dude.....1 point

For as bad as the first half was vs.EC, at Home I don't think you'll see those mistakes. Defense can stay disciplined, even on trick plays, Gives offense a chance to settle in and put up points. Coaching has to be better, consistently, we have moments that can't be explained. I'm looking for a clean game to show we ready for playoffs???? WDVL W.1 point

but that's after a very long and very successful career at TCU: Patterson is winningest coach in Horned Frogs' history. Patterson has led the TCU Horned Frogs to six conference championships—one Conference USA title in 2002; four Mountain West Conference titles in 2005, 2009, 2010 and 2011; —and nine bowl game victories—including victories in the 2011 Rose Bowl and 2014 Peach Bowl. His 2010 squad finished the season undefeated at 13–0 after a 21–19 Rose Bowl victory over the Wisconsin Badgers on New Year's Day 2011, and ranked second in the final tallying of both major polls. Its amazing Patterson did this with not near the all 4-5 star recruits UT etc. gets. Patterson thrived with lots of 3 stars with a few random 4's and 5's mixed in. Amazing really.1 point

That last paragraph, I submit Todd Dodge as a prime example of not winning until getting to established programs. SLC won before he got there. He didn't win at North Texas nor his 1st and 2nd stops before he got to Westlake, who had an established program and tradition.1 point -

In Stump's seven seasons at WB at least four of his teams were more talented than the West Brook team that made it to state in 2018. All Stump could muster with that talent is the 3rd round of the playoffs. Dude won district once in seven years! He is very much overrated as a football coach.1 point

Technically the school could be within their authority but it is a very narrow exception. The Supreme Court has ruled that’s such speech how to create a “substantial disruption” in classes. Way back in the mid-1960s, the Supreme Court ruled in Tinker v. Des Moines School District in a 7-2 decision that wearing black arm bands in class in protest of the Vietnam war was protected speech Under the First Amendment. Interestingly a similar case came up in front of the Supreme Court as this Buna case just four months ago. If I remember the case, a cheerleader was on their JV squad and tried out for the varsity squad. She did not make the squad and she made an off campus and off school time post (I will clean up the language) something like… screw school, screw cheerleading, screw everything. In response the school district kicked her off at the JV squad. She sued school district and in their defense they stated that she called a substantial disruption in classes. As evidence they brought testimony that a couple of classes discussed her for a few minutes. The Supreme Court in and 8-1 decision stated that discussing the cheerleader for a few minutes and in some classes does not constitute a substantial disruption of the school. Like in most cases they don’t define what that is. Would that require riots at the school? Many students walking out of class in protest? I don’t know because issues such as this are on a case by case basis. The Supreme Court gives guidance for the lower courts to follow. Sometimes they give very distinct answers, which are called Bright Line Rules, which must be followed but those are extremely rare. This is not one of those cases. So for Buna ISD to be able to take any kind of action at all, they need to be able to document a “substantial disruption” in school and having some students or parents not liking it does not even come close to feeling that description, in my opinion. The very essence of the first amendment is making comments that people don’t like. Otherwise it would not be needed.1 point

I have Ltown winning in a close one. To many Pirates down. If the ship was full, Vidor by 20, but the Pirates have to many peg legged running backs. They have heart but that’ll only take you so far. BUT, if there’s some game mateys that come up from JV that are unbeknownst to me, the scourge of the Spanish Main may sail to victory. That said, don’t strike the colors just yet. Load the cannons and be prepared to repel boarders. Durn the Raiders and full speed ahead.1 point -
From his webpage, yesterday they tested him breathing without oxygen and using room air. I think he did better than expected and was able to breathe on his own however they put him back on oxygen to keep from stressing him. Yesterday he also showed response such as moving his toes on command. He was doing well enough today that they took him off of oxygen completely and also off of sedation.1 point
