This line of thinking is exactly what has created the downturn in society over the past several decades. Parents never pushing their kids to take personal responsibility for their choices or their role in bad situations. Even if all of what you said is true, your teaching your son to lay down and cry when things aren't fair. That's not a life lesson that will serve him well. I highly doubt Mac's staff would have lasted as long as it has had he run his program this way.2 points -

It has the potential to be a great match. Match within the match is Huffman is young and should have continued to improve all year (including since the last time they faced BC) vs Bridge City returns a lot from last year and is experienced. Winning is a habit and one team is used to winning at this level...the other is taking another shot at knocking this door down (I don’t believe they have went past the third round since 2007 or so). It should be very fun and entertaining for all! I have friends on both staffs and hate that someone is going to go home. Hopefully, both teams play excellent. Good luck to all!!!2 points -

i do not remember it specifically, but i did manage to catch a few games in those years. I thought Andy was a solid threat at QB. He had the wheels to take off and burn. Seemed to be pretty balanced attack though. I found this highlight reel on youtube. I see wishbone, i formation, and veer for sure. Andy seemed to target #5 Perry a lot, as he was a pretty good receiver in his own right. [Hidden Content]1 point -

You may be right, but since the last realignment we only grew by 8 kids. So that is not growth like the Cleveland area by no means. A lot of the families that were here thru the early 2000's are leaving for a new group that has started to move in. Still it is going to be hard to grow when there are no homes to rent or room to build, Due to bigger acreage being own by families. Home shortages is one reason we can't get or keep good teachers (besides what the school district pays), or so they say. Shepherd not only has a hard time completing in football, the other sports are as bad or worse. For example (if we stay in the same district with the same schools) Splendora will have something like 704 more kids than Shepherd does, as Coldspring will only have something like 39 less kids than Shepherd. It is a no win for use either way.1 point -

Tyler Chapel Hill vs. Vidor (Bi-District)
piratevillain reacted to NoNeckNic479 for a topic
Vidor needs to play a clean game (cut down on penalties, tackle better, etc.) and can't fall behind by multiple scores. TCH lines up in shotgun, RB in the back-field and multiple WR's split out wide. Counters, traps, jet sweeps and jump balls. TCH has multiple guys that are capable of breaking a tackle and taking it in for 6. Defensively TCH is big up front and can be worn down in the later quarters.1 point -

Can’t imagine the Pirates not being up for this game, but with all the subs, we’ll need a 110% out of everyone. One common opponent, Livingston. Here you have to realize the situation at the time. They beat Livingston 35-15, but the Lions still had their stud QB. Vidor beat them 40-7 and the Lions without their QB. Even here, Vidor had 40 at the end of the 3rd Qtr, so Matthews played Subs in the fourth. Based on all that, it’s hard to get a significant handle on who might have the advantage. I’d love to hear from @Lions Pride 2021 or anyone who might have seen both teams play, and get their take on this matchup.1 point -
That was a tough read and not because of content... Not every kid is going to get treated the same and preferential treatment definitely happens. Some kids get a 1st and 2nd shot over a lot of kids because they're there and putting in the work (look at your oldest son). I would also say the coaching staff has at least 100 other kids they're trying to evaluate, put in the right position, and monitor academically so sometimes kids fall through the cracks. I've seen places where it's obvious the superintendent's/school board president's/booster club's/Baptist preacher's kid gets playing time over everyone else because of how political situations can be, but Huffman, I've thought, hasn't been that way AS BAD as some other places. I've always been taught the best ability is dependability and sometimes with more talented kids (or kids that have "potential") they think their natural ability should make up for the lack of accountability, preparation, or execution. You didn't post the other side about your younger son but when I see a parent rant on a social media platform in the way you have my 1st question is going to be "what kind of dedication does your son have?" If it's spotty do you really think thrusting him into a position over others who have been dedicated is the right way to build a team/program? Also, what is that teaching your son in the long run? I'm only assuming because of what I've seen in the past but you never did specify what your younger son's work ethic is like. My take would be to go meet with the coach directly in charge of him and ask what he has to do to get better and get more playing time (again, I don't know if you've done that but you definitely haven't given any inclination that you have). I hope your rant helps you out and I'm pretty sure if the Huffman coaches are reading what you posted they probably know who you are. I don't think going after people on a platform behind a screen name is the right way to address an issue and I can only assume what you're saying in and around the community that causes division.1 point

I’ve mentioned several times about Dist 9’s lack of defense. Here’s some info on both Districts Points Against. Vidor 170 Chapel Hill 252 LCM 184 Palestine 320 Ltown 195 Lindale 317 Huffman 118 Kilgore 233 Not sure what their approach is to defense, but it’s certainly not high up on their priorities. It should be noted that they score a lot more points than Dist 10, but with defenses like they have, they have too.1 point -

It’s not that we don’t have faith in them or that we don’t support them because we do, but we also realize that for whatever reason this years team is one of the most undisciplined teams we’ve ever seen. Every game tons and tons of penalties, and many are personal fouls. I realize many of those are in response to other teams actions but do better. Your the Mustangs, don’t let the other teams get into your head. Run the play and when the play is over move on to the next one. If WOS is the cream of the crop around here then cream always rises to the top. Don’t settle to the bottom by letting other teams drag you there. Be classy. Do better. That and the fact we have no real effective passing game leads us realistic fans to believe the 3rd round will be it for us. Sooner or later we’ll face a team that will shut Gales and the running game down. We do hope we’re wrong though. I sure want to be.1 point -

Lol, you’re just going to take whole neighborhood out of our attendance zone? If we would be average without Barrett Station then we would really be bad if you took away Newport, where 70% of those kids you think live in Barrett actually stay. If you took away the Indian Shores and Lake Shadows neighborhoods we would be less talented. Pretty duh statement to say “If Crosby had less enrollment they wouldn’t be as good”🙄1 point -

Kind words, but BH will not have a chance against FBM. I thought they might at one time and hope BH makes me eat crow for a week, but the chemistry on this team is not there. The frustrating part is I have know idea why! I’ve been around this group for a long time and they shouldn’t be playing like this. also I do apologize for my rant on the other thread. So many others have made that point about athletes and the color of their skin that I may have unfairly lumped you in. Goodluck to the Coogs.1 point -

🤯Well nothing like airing out frustration on SETX message board. If you had issues with the staff, should have been discussed privately with HC and AD. Sorry your child is going through some tough times, but bringing up 2 boys through their program, I cant say I have experienced any of that with this staff. You ask both of my kids, they will reflect back and say nothing but good about their HS coaches at HH. Good luck with you and your sons issues.1 point

Vidor is the perennial underdog I cheer for, therefore I’ve come to like them. A few weeks ago Vidor supporters were complaining that they weren’t ranked after the body of work they had put in to date. I commented in that DCTF rankings thread that they shouldn’t be worried about the rankings and instead focus on how they’re going to matchup with the east Texas district at the line of scrimmage in the first and potentially third rounds. Well, here we are. Vidor is in a situation where a bi-district win probably gets you three playoff games. Riordan was 2-0 against the slot-t at Crosby and has some horses up there at TCH. I’m cheering for both teams in this one albeit for different reasons, good luck to the Pirates.1 point -

I would be willing to bet I could find hundreds of former HH athletes, and parents of HH athletes that would say the exact opposite of your post. Similar to life, there is nothing about athletics that is “fare.” Don’t point fingers. Talk to your son. Schedule a meeting. Hopefully y’all can get on same page with coaching staff. Airing your complaints on a public forum, does no good for anyone involved. I hate you feel your athlete is being wronged, however there is much more to life than HS athletics. Learning life lessons from a difficult circumstance could pay to be much greater in life than HS playtime. I hope your situations get resolved, and best of luck to you, your son, and HH.1 point

PNGFaithful I watched 10 Bulldog games and I saw a text n of arm tackling and poor fundamental tackling skills. In other words, a very weak defense Faircloth takes the top athletes and puts them on offense and then the defense takes shape. He gets ridiculed, but seems to make the playoffs. I don’t know if Barrow and staff have been to the playoffs more than 1 time since he has become head coach. PNG and Nederland have just about equal talent, however it seems as if PNG gets more production from their players than Nederland does in my opinion1 point
