  1. you're still the only football poster on this site who's delusional enough to think that football success should be measured by state championships at PNG. your explanation of "good and bad" is inherently bad.

  3. "Facts" are arbitrary these days, especially when you can also have "alternative facts" now. Judging from his interview where he was stating how much he loved PNG I'm sure BF's opinion on his departure is 180 degrees out from the guy that did the interview and said he left on his own accord. "Good or bad reasons" wouldn't matter, he would have to explain either one in a job interview. My first interview question to him would be, "Why are you leaving a program and community you and your family love so much to drop down and take this job if there were no issues?". If he was forced out for a "good" reason he wouldn't be getting another job as quickly as he did. If his new boss feels like he was forced out for a "bad" reason then he's probably your leading candidate and the hiring process is just a formality like it was.

  4. I think the committee approach for the superintendent and the AD are excellent routes to go for sure. Maybe the assistant supt. also, that way you have a check on the supt.'s powers and don't end up in a situation like we did in Crosby a few years ago. There's already kind of a committee process for hiring a supt., but I would have completely different committee makeups for hiring a supt. versus hiring an AD though. I think it's tough to hire any of their subordinates that way because you're somewhat stripping them of the powers you hired them to execute? I don't think the committee should hire the girls basketball coach and then try to hold the AD responsible for the results if they suck. I think you hire those two administrators through the committee process and then allow them to build their organizations in their own effigies.

  6. At the end of the day the coach makes decisions that give his team the best chance to win. No one in the gym wants to win worse than he does. The mommas and daddies are just fans and unfortunately some of them never learn that. I don’t know this coach at all but he has to be extremely frustrated with the noise from the bleachers. If you look back at the Horns season it looks like the coach has been looking for an answer that just isn’t there. With 3 district loses and a very tight OT win against Huffman it may be time for the Horns faithful to come back to reality. Some people seemed to think that this club would challenge Silsbee when in reality that was wishful thinking on their part.

  8. Glad you picked up on that. What can I say? Obviously WOS priorities aren't always where they should be. We voted for a bond to build new schools years ago. And test scores are still down. Is it the teachers? I'm not sure. Why do we not have honors/ap prep classes at the HS? Do we have teachers not capable of doing their job? Again I'm not sure. Don't forget the first part of student-athletes, is always the most important.

  10. I see your point . I do think that some coaches dream job is to resurrect a dead football program where hey will be loved by all and have job security for the rest of their career All for a little less money and a LOT less headache, I don't believe that is the case in this particular situation, however.

  17. Elect new school board members if you want to fix the system…..
    1 point
  18. No I don't believe all should be. I just liked the process we went through. Once the right AD is in place, the trust is there for him to make his/her own coaching hires for the other sports. Once the right Supt is in place, who the community theoretically hires via voting the school board members into position, he/she is trusted for hires to each campus leadership. JMO on the AD/HFC position that sets the tone for the whole community in all sports and extra curriculars that relate to each sport. When an AD/HFC truly gets community, the whole district performs well and feeds off each other. For example, it was awesome how both LCM & LR athletics supported each schools band through their competitions even being around playoff time. Academics improve, school spirit/ pride improves, school attendance improves, etc. It is a partnership between all parties.

  19. Really both, but one will come with more backlash than the other. Leadership has got to understand, the voters are going to Google the new head coach’s last name. They’re going to find the win-loss records and the history, which will also find its way into every news media article about the hire. They’re going to see the rumors that have been circulating here and elsewhere for months, and people who have been slow to pass judgment are going to see that as confirmation that the rumors were true. And even if it’s a likable guy who’s cleaned up and rebuilt his career (I personally happen to like one of those two quite a bit as a man), it doesn’t make him the right guy to take over the PN-G program. In particular, college recruiting is a concern to a lot of people. PN-G wasn’t shelling out many Roschon Johnsons, Jaylen Garths, Blake Bosts or Adam Morses before Faircloth. We’ve had more success at that the last six years or so than we’d had in decades. Y’all know relationships are everything when it comes to college recruiting, and Faircloth’s relationships at the next level went a long way for some PN-G alumni who might not have gotten a second look without him. Moving forward, a lot of your major programs are going to have concerns about appearances when the relationship is with a guy who has a history of NCAA violations. I was in these threads telling people there would be tremendous political blowback over Faircloth’s ouster. Nobody in leadership listened. Now the school board’s in full bore damage control mode, calling around trying to get people to stop talking about it on Facebook because the outrage is multiples of what they thought they’d get and they need the conversation to die down. I hope they listen to my prognostications this time.

  24. You are all right that there are a lot of reasons why there were not more coaches applied, but the bottom line is that just like what destroyed Kirbyville’s program is the fans wanting to run the program not the coaches. The fans stay on the administration and that is passed on to the coaches. State championship or else; it’s the superintendents fault; we will run the school board members off next election, keep it up, you will eventually destroy your program. Maybe some of you need to get the plank out of your own eye before you get the speck out of someone else’s eye..

  30. You're kind of reiterating what I'm saying. Every school that has a football team has those exact same costs you mentioned. I agree the overwhelming majority of schools' football programs are costing them money. What I was highlighting is that fact that those costs are more easily swallowed when programs are generating large revenue streams and that it's fine for those AD/HFC's to be compensated as such.

  31. If you're not him, you're his mom or best friend. And you can't NOT take into account someone's record as a head coach. I'm willing to take into consideration that a program might need turning around, and that a coach might need a season or two to implement his program and see notable progress. But when a coach takes over a 5-5 team, goes 4-6 the next year, and then in years 3,4,5 combines to go 1-29, you better believe I'm taking that into consideration. All this "heroic" nonsense is laughable. He only coached at Eastwood for one season. if helping out those less fortunate kids was the goal, you'd think he would've stuck around for awhile. You can't really take credit for working in the squalid conditions (under-privileged, no weight room!) when you dip after one season. I'm not really at all sure what's heroic about taking over a 5-5 rayburn team. The guy who replaced him and took over his 28 or 29 game losing streak the next year and won two games seems more "heroic" to me.

  33. Once again you watched a different game. I’m not sure a stint at Tekoa makes you an expert although you’re certainly entitled to your opinion. The trap that was used in the 2nd half was a different look and worked on more than one occasion on different players. Give credit where it’s due . With both teams hitting on all cylinders HJ has the best club this year. I gotta think these conversations make things tough in the HF locker room. On a different note HF looks to have a really nice JV club. Some of those kids , if eligible, could play on the varsity.

  39. I think that is the whole point - hypocrisy! They all think this, and they all talk like this behind closed doors. However, the main point pushed on here is that 45 lost because of HIS demeanor and mentality, but the “other side” routinely gets a pass. I could care less how they speak, what they type as long as the job of president (putting USA first) is being accomplished.

  41. I think Faircloth is an exceptional offense coach and his success can’t be denied in his many years at PNG. That being said many people are acting like the sky is falling. Faircloth had many red flags. So many assistants leaving over the years. The IPad situation was a complete embarrassment and was kind of swept under the rug. I don’t believe the administration forced him out or they would have after the IPad situation. I think PNG will hire the right coach and they will continue the success they have had. With Sulphur Springs going from 5a to 4a I also believe Faircloth will be success there. Why are so many people upset? That’s what I can’t figure out.

  44. Never a good time to lose you coach, unless you want him gone, but right now would be an absolute awful time for PNG with the upcoming realignment. A lot of y'all are talking about what PNG can or can't do RIGHT NOW but are failing to look forward, like to February 3rd? Outside of FB Marshall and Liberty Hill, who will probably be moved to region 3 this realignment, who else would you point to in the southern half of the state in 5A-D2 that would be a hands down favorite over PNG next year? Maybe one of the Corpus schools in the semis? They already beat Montgomery who's losing their entire offense anyway, Brenham isn't what they once were, Huntsville is probably about to slide some and you watched a team you beat last year donkey stomp FB Marshall in bi-district. I said it four years ago when it happened but splitting 5A was a Godsend for SETX and other areas of the state where the growth is slow to stagnant. 6A is 6A, 5A-D1 is JV 6A for your growing suburban areas about to move up to the top class like Crosby and BH. However, 5A-D2 is made for schools that just opened like Lake Creek and ones that have "mature" populations like the SETX and East Texas 5A's. I'm not saying PNG can win state or even the region but it's a mistake to think that they shouldn't be extremely competitive for the foreseeable future. Same goes for some others.
