  1. Really it's privilege to get to face a team like this. Most teams get eliminated by teams that themselves will get eliminated. The young Tigers had a wonderful opportunity to see what it's like at this level. Playing a team this good in this setting at the Montagne in the third round is a great experience. Frankly the Montagne is a much better basketball venue than the Alamodome. There's not a bad seat in the house. The Alamodome is a terrible venue. The state championship should be played in a venue designed for and dedicated too basketball. There were two tacks the Tigers could take have taken tonight. They could shorten the game and keep all scoring down or play at their normal pace which is up tempo and score as much as they could. Obviously Silsbee choose the latter. The 63 points the Tigers scored tonight is the second highest point total this season against HJ. Only Atascocita, a 6A team, scored more than the Tigers with 66 points. And there's a fair chance that that nobody else in the remaining 4 games, even Argyle, will score 63. And that ain't bad.

  2. fun little bit of math for you: there are 253 5A schools in Texas. considering that there are two divisions, the best case scenario for coaches using your logic is that 239 of 253 coaches in 5A would need to be replaced every 7 years. when your "requirements" at best allow only 7% of all coaches to be considered a success, you need to adjust your requirements, especially when you're only using one factor to judge that success. You're literally saying that 251 out of 253 coaches each year have failed. It's still a really silly argument, no matter how many times you double down on it. You're also completely ignoring the fact that "championship type coaches" can't win championships with the talent at the majority of high schools in texas on a yearly basis. You could put Surratt at HJ and he wouldn't win a championship with the talent they have there, not if you gave him 2 decades, unless a special group came through. He would've had a shot or two with the group they had come through when Padgett was there, but I don't think his coaching would've been enough to overcome the talent/coaching that WOS had at the time.

  4. My opinion: Surratt started winning the State Title in his second year (3 in a row) at Carthage. Don't see any reason why he couldn't duplicate this at, say, Crosby! Same thing goes for Buchanan and Briles. Again -- this is what state championship type coaches do. Oh, BTW, at Carthage, the second year was well below my 7 year requirement. "If" one is a championship type coach then one doesn't have to worry about the 7 year time frame. The ones that would have to worry are the ones that haven't won one in 7 years. If one can't do it in 7, well, then, there's a great chance it's not going to be done. Example: The former Nederland coach and the former PNG coach just to name a few.

  6. I think they were the best team in the state last year, but some unfortunate decisions in the title game cost them the championship. Looking forward to an HJ-Argyle matchup.

  13. Such hostility! why so, my friendly fan of the Purple Beast to our East? Trust me when I say Bulldogs92 is one of the last people (especially on this website) to be looking for confrontation . His post is genuinely out of curiosity.

  19. Don’t you think my post is rather insignificant? You sure seem concerned with it. Look, I’m sorry I called out your misspelling when posting about your association with an institution of education and learning. It was too good to pass up. I’m ashamed I even brought it up. Thank you for the back and forth though. We all just need some football to talk about instead of pointing out other’s faults. Yours truly, SmashMouth the Pedant III

  25. Silsbee thinks that they are playing Orangefield. Somebody needs to tell them they are playing the best team I’m the state and they need to shorten the game as much as possible. It really it was too late already 2 minutes into the second period. So never mind.

  30. I agree that WOS has the manpower to be in this game and even win it. But do they have the composure, the mental toughness? At some point HJ will make a run. When that happens will WOS rise to the occasion or will they fall apart? It could go either way. The Mustangs could win a close game or lose by 25.

  32. Mustangs, Mustangs, Mustangs for the win. HJ is really good but Wardlow and Pappillion are too big for the Hawks. It will be a good game put the defensive pressure and rebounding will be the difference and this favors the Mustangs!!!

  42. I have come on this forum before and at times intentionally been a bit of a turd and antagonist, but over on the Smoaky forum I was constantly entertained by Powerlifter and grew to love his posting. I enjoyed interacting with him on there as well. RIP and prayers to his friends and family! Any thing he posted and any thread he started was a Must read.

  43. My son is on the BC team and that was indeed a great game. The Vidor kids had better size, better skilled players at some positions and also the referee calls seemed to go their way a lot.. Very surprised they didn't pull it out. I think BC had more heart that game honestly and some clutch plays. That may be our only win for district but it was a good game. My son ended up with 20 pts for BC and most of that came in 2nd half. Some big 3 pointers and press steals/layups. Great team effort by a lot of thos kids both ways. The one big from Vidor (Long hair) didnt miss except the last shot. it was fun to watch.

    PNG Coaching Change?

Here’s what I have for all of you. I made a grey post so it would not get deleted a few weeks back. Let this get out. These new school board members need to make a decision. Either take care of the administration problems, that are causing the BF debacle. Or get ready to not be voted back in. It’s simple. It’s called the power of social media. And a few of us have the goods. So if you know a school board member, one of these newly elected ones. Pass this along to them. The only thing that generates money and people are bleeding purple for, revolve around sports and the band and drill teams. So if you think, a Joe Dale Cary type of coach is going to come in and do what BF has done, your sadly mistaken. The words been out for over a month. Leaked from the top. My sources, are firm…….
