I've been going to the state basketball tournament since 1972. 50 straight years of attending. I have seen my fair share of quality games and teams. Many times at the state tournament I witnessed very good teams tire out in the 2nd half due to the other team's relentless pressure. It happens. Sometimes you can see it happening based on the first half of play. I believe Silsbee was the better overall team (depth, coaching) in this match up. But to completely dismiss the fact that Washington only plays 6 players and coming off a tough game with LBJ less than 20 hours prior, they had to face a Silsbee team that was deeper and kept up the pressure, would be showing lack of knowledge of the game.

I live maybe 3 miles from BT Washington. For 20 years I worked at a DPS driver license office. High School students from all around would come in to get their IDs or DL permits. Many of the high school coaches are required to have a class B cdL passenger endorsement so they can drive the school buses. Coach Vincent Grayson the Washington basketball coach used to come in to keep his CDL going. When I told him I was from Silsbee we hit it off. We been talking reg III class 4A basketball off and on for 6 or 7 years.

With the Ukraine situation, now is not the right time for any candidate to talk about taking our guns. Might be an election killer. My wife often shares crazy stories with concern going on around the country and I tell her we don’t have worry about that, we live in Texas. If Beto were to get elected, that would change everything.

There seems to be a lot of excuses being made. I’m sorry, but when you have the #1 recruit in Texas (McDonald’s All American) on a 4A team who is not devoid of talent besides her and you don’t win State at least once in 4 years, there is blame to go around. HJ was easily the most talented 4A team in State the last two years. Should have won last year, and most definitely should have won this year especially after slaying Argyle. Not implying it’s all on the coaches because kids have to perform in crunch time. But that staff will be wondering how they let it slip away for years to come.

I don't think Brownsboro is being given enough credit here. They had a great plan, played tenacious D, and was deadly accurate most of the game. Part of H-J's struggles were a result from Brownsboro efforts. Not all but enough to make the difference. This was not a fluke, Brownsboro worked, executed, and earned the win.

A prescription may not even matter. It depends on how your state’s law is written. I think y’all are being a little hard on Fogo. They were unlucky to win last year, and HJ just played poorly last night. He can’t shoot for them, and they missed a ton of free throws, wide open threes, and layups. That also kept them out of the press, which is their bread and butter. Coaching aside, if they shoot even marginally better in those three areas they win by 12-15 points.

Brownsboro played great, no doubt, credit to them. What I’m saying is this...HJ beats that team 9 times out of 10, you can’t allow that 1 time to be the one that counts. When you have FAR more talent, you have to win when it counts. Just like last season for HJ, far more talent than Canyon, couldn’t get it done. When you’re the most talented team 4 years in a row and don’t win, it’s not the talent, it’s the coaching.

Completely agree, totally underachieved, and I don’t blame the girls. I feel really bad for Jackson, she deserves a Championship, so do other girls in that program. They got outcoached every year at some point. WAY TOO much talent the last 4 years to not win at least one Title.

And at least two times during those years, including this year, Silsbee beat the 3d place, 2nd place and 1st place teams from 23 4A.

Lots of families keep roots in Silsbee. Kids leave and come back when it's time to raise a family and settle down. Some end up in Houston and Beaumont (see Porchia for example), but Silsbee keeps a lot. I bet if you look at the names on those rosters, you'd notice a pattern. We already have more Arlines, Cartwrights, Jones, and Adams making their way to high school next year.

This officer did not kill Breonna Taylor but he returned fire after a partner was shot. He fired into the apartment where the gun fire was coming from and did not hit anyone but a couple of bullets with him to the neighboring apartment. The officer who shot Breonna Taylor was not charged (correctly) So I think they charged this officer with endangering. Fortunately the jury saw through the charge and acquitted the officer. These kids can play for hours and they often do. But after a while you start making mistakes. You don’t even realize it in pickup games or at practice. But at this level it’s crucial. Silsbee made mistakes too but they were making fewer in the second half.

Rather scary post. Texas & Florida are the “must have” States for conservatives. If either fall, especially Texas, it’s all over. I’ve often wondered why conservatives resist marijuana legalization, since conservatives are for personal freedoms. We ordinarily think that everyone has the freedom to control their lives. But when it comes to legalizing gambling or marijuana, as a group we’re against it. Makes no sense to me. The Republicans could/should nip this in the bud now by coming out for the legalization of MJ themselves, if only medically. If not, you can bet the Looney Left will come out in full force, and with some conservatives not happy with Abbott, and a few that might change their votes because of MJ, it will be to close for comfort. I’m borderline ultra right. I think Trump’s positive aspects were everything we look for in a President. I’m also for MJ legalization, but will not, no way Jose, vote for Beto over that issue. As for the potential problems associated with legalizing MJ, I’d think that one would only have to research what has happened in other States who have legalized it. California has refineries - what problems have they confronted? We’ve discussed the potential negatives of MJ, but not the positives. Medically, there are several, and not legalizing it for prescription is a dunce move if I’ve ever seen one. Good grief, you can get fentanyl administer by a doctor but not MJ? That’s freaking ridiculous. MJ is not the boogeyman as it’s been portrayed. Although I’ve never used it, common sense tells me there’s a minimum of 10 prescription pain killers more dangerous than MJ. What do we need to do? Contact our local representatives and encourage them to legalize MJ, at least for medicinal purposes. Nip this issue in the bud. It’s all the Dems have, and not worth losing our State and Country over.
