  3. If Indian is offensive, why are several of their organizations and services named Indian? It would be like a guy saying redneck is offensive. Then he goes on to tell you that he is the president of the redneck fan club, gets his insurance from Redneck Insurance and he is a proud follower of his high school mascot, Rednecks.

  7. Maybe you ask the people at the NAACP (who were cool with the term “colored people”) or the fine folks at the United Negro College Fund. Not a lot of outcry over those two supposedly offensive names. Racism in America today exists only in the eyes of those who wish to be offended. READ THAT AGAIN. The literal push today is “you don’t even understand that you’re a racist, so let me explain it to you.” Racism by today’s extreme definition isn’t something you can see or touch, or even an activity… it’s something you don’t even know exists unless you use your imagination a little.

  8. I don’t disagree with this. My grandfather had no problem using this word, even when talking to me when I was a small child. The thing is, there wasn’t any malice in it, it was just how he’d been brought up.

  9. It wasn’t in my house, it truly was an offensive act. The problem we have now is we go too far sometimes in the opposite direction. Let the so called offended and offender work it out without interference from the woke crowd.

  10. When you were in grade school it was acceptable for white people to drop the N-word in casual conversations when referring to black people, so I don’t really think “it used to be this way” is a strong argument here.

  11. I should’ve said “used to be considered honorable”, but it’s a very fair comparison. Obviously I don’t believe that it was actually honorable, but the wealthiest, most respected people generally owned slaves. The worst things that white Americans have ever done involved slavery. The worst things that Indians ever did involved scalping. The fact that you don’t want slavery referred to as to having been honorable actually reinforces my point entirely. His post was trying to justify the Indian mascot doing the scalping motion because “it was honorable” when the Indians were scalping people. That’s not the way I’d want to be characterized if someone from another culture was impersonating me, just as, being a white man, I get very aggravated when some groups associate me with slavery because white men did it 200 year ago.

Went fishing this morning. After a short while I ran out of worms. Then I saw a cottonmouth with a frog in it’s mouth. Knowing the snake couldn’t bite me with the frog in it’s mouth, I grabbed it behind the head, took the frog, and put it in my bait bucket. Now the dilemma was how to release the snake without getting bit. I grabbed my bottle of Jack Daniels & poured a little whiskey in it’s mouth. It’s eyes rolled back in it’s head and it went limp. I released the snake into the lake without incident and carried on fishing using the frog. Not long after I felt a nudge on my foot. I looked down and it was that damn snake…….with two more frogs. Life is good!

Its unknown if BISD will use a consultant to expedite the process and get it right. The trend has been to wait until its too late to have Spring ball which results in the new hire being disadvantaged. The deck is already stacked moving to 6A any unnecessary procrastination is pure sabotage. jmo...

  24. I am not from Tarkington. I live in Mont Belvieu. As I said above, I have some friends there who has kids. He has a son that did not play. What I see is a lack of interest, thats why I say get em' off the deer lease and into pads. You are right, it will take their community to light a fire under their sons. A Rah-Rah coach that's committed to stay and MOTIVATES is the first step. Think the late Jeff Walker at Liberty Hill. He had those LH kids ready to run through a brick wall for him at a moments notice. I am not saying Tark will win state of course. I do think they could be better than 0.500 and win a playoff game or two sometimes. Again, that weak district they have should be easy to win in with any real improvement from Tark.

  27. It's sad. I watched every game that KFDM had on the air and there was usually a nice crowd and a huge home court advantage. There's no energy at Montagne anymore. Tubbs was a program changer. How do they find a guy like that?

    Hagar’s Ramblings

Why do we call back then, “the good old days”? When I was a tyke in the mid fifties, we’d play outside all day. Rode our bikes up & down the road in safety, even into the night. I’ve thought back why we were so safe. Knowing the fathers in our neighborhood, had something happened to any of us, all would’ve gathered and had the perpetrator been caught, I honestly think Justice would’ve been swift and lethal. I think it was a thorough deterrent. Is there a point that we become to “civilized”? That sounds absurd, but I think it’s true. While the bulk of humanity becomes more civilized, the evil part appears to become more evil, and with fewer deterrents, runs rampant through us. Since we’re so “civilized”, when the bad folks are caught, they’re treated with kid gloves instead of a quick and severe sentence. As usual, I can only recognize the problem and have few acceptable solutions. The real effective solutions won’t be used because we’re to “civilized”. For instance, if a man rapes a little girl & is caught, hang him at halftime during the Super Bowl. Let the National TV audience see him withering on the end of a rope, as his bowels and bladder empty and the scumbag takes his last breath. And that my friends is why I’m not in charge, 😄.

  32. Kenneth Perkins was on those 80 to 84 teams as well. Lamar beat Missouri in 1981 and in 1983 smoked Alabama 73-50 before losing by 60-58 to Villanova. I know there was a story on Olliver. It may have been against Weber State in 1980 where he was standing about 35 feet from the basket by the bench and the opposing coach said don't guard him that far out. Well he hit one from about 35 feet and the opposing coach was yelling "guard him, guard him". A good many of his shots would have been 3 pointers where he normally shot from. They had Olliver and Clarence Kea on those teams because the Carolinas weren't interested in them.

  33. I Don’t speak for any of them….im speaking for my self. To me it’s not dishonoring. And givin my genealogy(not Cherokee but Comanche) I ve had these convos. So is the word “Indian” offensive to those from India too my education on native Americans is from actual literature as well my studies of my genealogy and talking to other native Americans If your education of this culture is thru the lens of Hollywood and tv shows and this woke society that jump at opportunity to get attention then well you have a flawed view of said culture. native Americans have been viewed as savages because of that lens for the modern world and by word of mouth by those who have dealt and witnessed violence due to settlers encroaching on the native americans. I don’t view native Americans as savages at all…scalping and all. they were warriors and were that way to survive. peter Jones (Sacred Waving Feathers) of the Ojibwe wrote a book with the word “Indian” in the title. How bout that….a Native American used the word “Indian” George Copway (Kahgegagahbowh)is another author who used the word INdian to describe his people

  34. I think that the whole situation is sad. With all of the problems facing our Native American population, their leaders decide to put all of their efforts into this instead of poverty, drug addiction, violence, illiteracy, poor health, and any other of a host of ACTUAL PROBLEMS facing their community today. What has changed since the 1970s when the Cherokees were proud to be honored as the PNG mascot? Nothing in PNG.... they're still doing it the same way. The only difference is a embarrassing decline in leadership by the Cherokee Nation. BUT, I could see a time in the next five years where schools like PNG and Evadale will be banned from UIL participation if they don't change their mascots to accommodate the wishes of the far left. I'd bank on it.

  41. That might be true, but not necessarily a black person that has committed a crime. Is it a racial term if a black police chief uses the word "suspect"? Still can't see how that word is racial. smh
    1 point
  42. I don't think there are any more straws for you to grasp at. It doesn’t take a genius to figure out that “suspects” (in the context of Coach T’s quote) are players who may not make the team because their effort is SUSPECT, or their conditioning is SUSPECT, or their talent is SUSPECT.
    1 point
  43. I would think the answer to be that nobody but you thinks the word "suspects" is racial. With that last statement, I now believe you to be just facetious.

Certain small circles have made some racist claims about CT. If as you say, the term suspect refers to a criminal, it does not single out a race. If a coach from another school. say one with a majority of white athletes, were to use the term "suspects", would it be racist? I assume not. So because of where CT coaches, his comment is racist? Reality is my friend, you have twisted this into a race issue because of the race of the athletes which in turn makes you the racist.

Little Johnny came home from school one day and as the family was eating dinner, he let his dad know that he had a homework assignment and needed to write a short paper expaining the difference between theory and reality. His dad told him no problem, just let me do some thinking and after dinner they would get it taken care of. After dinner, little Johnny finally sits down with his dad to work on his assignment and as they are waiting to get started, his dad tells him to go ask his mom if she would sleep with George Clooney for a million dollars. Little Johnny was hesitant at first, thinking he would get in trouble, but finally went and asked her and she expained to him that it would be very wrong of her to do, but for a million dollars she would do it. He comes back and tells his dad and his dad tells him to go ask his sister if she would sleep with Channing Tatum for a million dollars. To no surprise, she quickly agrees and says she would. Little Johnny goes back to his dad and tells him he really needs to get his paper finished up and doesn't understand what the questions to his mom and sister have to do with theory and reality. His dad responds, "Well son, it's simple. In theory, we are sitting on 2 million bucks, but in reality, we are living with a couple of whores."
