Yes thanks to the many men and women who died while serving their country. Whether they were an Audie Murphy type Infantryman attacking the enemy or a Company Clerk who had a heart attack. Each of them were a necessary cog in the giant machine known as the American Military. So take a moment today to raise a toast and a prayer for these brave men and women, and thanks to God for giving them to us. Here’s a common toast to them by fellow soldiers. To absent companions!2 points

Saw this and it’s appropriate here. It’s the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press. It’s the soldier, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech. It’s the soldier, not the campus organizer, who has given us the freedom to demonstrate. It’s the soldier, who salutes the flag, who serves beneath the flag, and whose coffin is draped by the flag, who allows the protester to burn the flag. Those are powerful words that tells volumes about those who have served and those now serving. God Bless our men and women in uniform.2 points

Here’s the most pertinent pro-gun argument I’ve ever seen. Hope you all take a few minutes to read it. Essentially it’s “why the gun is civilized”.2 points -

Calallen’s Steve Chapman Becomes Texas All-Team Leader in Baseball Coaching Wins Calallen’s Tress Vasquez hit an RBI triple in the top of the 7th of Game 3 to give Calallen a 2-1 lead and Brayden Sprencel shut down Boerne in the bottom of the 7th to give Calallen the victory and a rematch with Sinton in this year’s Region IV Finals. The win also gave Calallen Head Baseball Coach Steve Chapman his 1,116 win making Chapman the winningest high school baseball coach in Texas history. Chapman’s win eclipsed the 1,115 wins held by Bobby Moegle of Lubbock Monterey. Moegle held that spot for almost 30 years. Moegle coached from 1960-1999, all at Lubbock Monterey. He took his teams to the state tournament 13 times, winning the state championship in ’72, ’74, ’81 and ’96. Coach Chapman got his first and only head coaching stint at Calallen in 1983 and is in his 40th year there. Chapman’s Calallen teams have won 3 State Championships (2000, 2005, 2008) and have been to the State Tournament 12 times. Calallen has been to the playoffs 31 straight seasons. They have been to the playoffs 33 of Chapman’s 40 seasons there. They have won or shared 27 District Championships. There were only 20 baseball players in the program when Chapman first came to Calallen in 1983. Now, 75-80 come out to make one of the three teams for the 4A school. Baseball is big in Corpus Christi and the Coastal Bend area and the Calallen program has been well supported by local fans. Robstown and Calallen district matchups have drawn close to 4,000 in attendance over the years. In 2007, Calallen played Corpus Christi Moody in the Area Round of the playoffs at Whataburger Field in Corpus Christi. Attendance was over 8,000 for the first two games of the series and over 9.000 for the Game 3 matchup. Last year’s Regional Final game vs Sinton was scheduled for a one-game playoff at Whataburger Field. With both teams ranked #1 and #2 in the state, a large attendance was expected for the one-game playoff. Rain forced the series to Laredo, a game which Sinton won 2-1 in 8 innings. Chapman’s record-breaking win last Saturday gives Calallen a rematch with Sinton in the 2022 Region IV Finals. Game 1 and Game 3 of the Regional Finals are scheduled at Cabaniss Field and Game 2 will be played at Whataburger Field. by Tim Baugh1 point

In another thread in this forum they talk about the woman who stopped the possible mass murder by shooting a man with her pistol when he brought out an A.R. 15 and started firing rounds. At the time there were two parties going on in an apartment complex and a fairly large crowd. Gun opponents will surely say, that man was evidence that people should not have firearms or AR 15 or whatever. He apparently was angry because he was told to leave the complex and he wanted to take revenge. So here is the question for those people. If he did not have access to a firearm and he was angry and wanted to kill and injure a bunch of people with what he had available, could he have? It was a crowd of people with two parties going on outside. What if he had been going approximately 100 miles an hour and driven into the crowd? Would it make us feel better if there were 15 dead people and 20 injured but it’s OK because it was not a gun?1 point

Not a bad list…if that person ever shows up they definitely won’t be a democrat. Several Republican Presidents have tried cutting spending (none lately) and were accused of killing kids by cutting programs. The closest we’ve come to a start is when Gingrich won the house. Both parties are guilty of jacking the debt up, on that we agree, but the differences between the two parties on energy, guns, immigration just to list a few are vast and it baffles me that some folks just can’t seem to distinguish between the two and would rather sit back and complain about both, while voting for neither.1 point

Nothing like being 18 and told “Write your will - many of you won’t be coming back.” By the grace of God many make it home - but this day is for those that didn’t. They knew the possibility was there. They knew the costs could be high. Many had already seen friends pass on - yet they pushed forward. May God hold them close and let us thank them and their families that gave the ultimate sacrifice for freedom. FREEDOM is worth the cost. May God bless you and your families today and hopefully you will take a quick moment to think of the sacrifices that were made for you. God bless America. I pray that despite everything we can somehow become United again as a country.1 point

Exactly. Thats a stupid comparison of someone obviously being drunk vs. buying a legal firearm. I am still waiting for someone to try to ban cars after the Christmas parade mass murder in Wisconsin. After all, CNN actually said "a car did it".1 point -
I can think of two mass shootings off the top of my head where a rifle really made a difference. In perhaps most of the mass shootings, a handgun would be the weapon of choice for mobility, the caring of ammunition, concealability, within its range just as deadly, etc. The two exceptions off the top of my head are the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas and the five officers shot and killed in Dallas. Those were standoff murders where the shooter was a good distance away and used the long range capability of a rifle. In a case like the Mandalay Bay, a pistol would have still done a lot of damage but not quite as significant as the A.R. 15. That could have been just as many victims however more of them would have been survivable probably. On the other hand if he would’ve been firing a suppressed 9 mm pistol, he could have hit thousands of people and no one would even have a clue what was happening. In the Dallas incident, a handgun could have been very deadly from the range he was using it however he could not target nearly good enough with a handgun. Firing into a crowd would have been deadly but he was specifically targeting police officers. As the FBI statistics show, about 5 to 10 times more people are killed every year with hands, feet and personal weapons held such as knives or baseball bats. In 2019 as an example, I believe 364 people were killed with a rifle from all incidents combined. Almost 3000 were killed with personal weapons. Let that sink in while complaining about rifles specifically. Out of 15,000 murders a year, a little over 300 are with rifles. Yet what is in the news all the time… Got a ban those evil rifles because they are doing so much damage. That alone tells you it’s about a control agenda and not about saving lives.1 point

But, you said what did I expect them to do, keep getting sick. Apparently you can still get sick, so why block the truckers. If you are vaccinated, then you will supposedly have a mild case, but let’s shut the entire country down because everything that comes here goes through that port. That’s what caused the supply chain issues and it was all calculated. Part of Biden’s plan to destroy America before he croaks.1 point

I can’t speak for other churches but I can tell you our church has a security detail made out of church members dressed in regular clothes that are strategically placed through out the church while Service is going on. If someone comes in our church an starts shooting, he or she will get lead poisoning an will get to meet Jesus real quick like. I am sure there are other churches across this country who are doing the same thing. Other venues may need to do the same. You can’t legislate yourself out of this problem.1 point -
My heart is broken for those parents. You have such division, hatred and vitriol spewed from all sides. The layers that exist make it so difficult to keep your moral rudder headed in the right direction. People spend so much time poured into focusing on everything negative in this country and in the world. Is it wrong to want to rally behind being an American, and living in the greatest country on the planet? We have many issues to address and work through, but whatever happened to being united? Whatever happened to politeness and agreeing to disagree? We continue letting the government, the MEDIA, and society separate us and our country will not make it through the next world war. Pray for our country. Pray for our leaders. Pray for those parents, that community, those children who lived through this and will have this memory forever. Pray for our first responders. Pray for one another. And - if it’s not to much to ask, may we please have these little things that temporarily take your mind off of the daily troubles? Not, a woke warrior inflaming the country and being narcissistic.1 point

These are after the fact AND it has nothing to do with stopping the crime. It also isn’t a compromise from gun owners you keep whining about. If someone buys a gun legally from a dealer, why is it their fault? You can tell if someone is drunk, not intent with a gun. Makes as much sense as charging a car dealer if someone kills someone in an accident.1 point -

We’ll while it’s coming. The 2nd Amendment wasn’t created just for school shootings. It was created to protect us against a tyrannical government. Regardless what’s coming it doesn’t change that fact. Tighten up entry points at schools, arm teachers but leave law abiding gun owners out of it.1 point -
