Turf vs Grass

Grass... lol As a former band member I always preferred Turf. But the old astroturf was like walking on concrete. Don't know how the athletes avoided injuries. Marching in the mud so many times here in SETX. Lost a shoe once but never missed a step.3 points -

Keep digging... Vidor is not on here year after year looking for praise and rankings. Crosby supports on the other hand need to hear and feel the love. I'll make it better. Can almost hear the tears falling from your face.... Crosby is sooooo GOOD! They deserve to be champions! Crosby is #1!!!!2 points -
If that are the case, EVERY NFL team would have natural grass. They would spend the money on the grass to protect their million dollar investments in players. Money talks…2 points

Oh good grief, I forgot Climate Change. We’ve never had heat waves before. Never. Oh wait….. in 1913 hottest temps that was ever recorded was 134. 1913? Before all these durn cars took over? No way. Yep, we’re in a heat wave. Ain’t the first & won’t be the last. No folks, the skies not falling, just the gullible are falling for the Climate Change 🐂💩. Yes it’s changing, but man has little to do with it, and can do little to change it.1 point

The comparison of high schools having grass fields to professional teams having grass fields is beyond absurd. Pro teams have seemingly limitless money needed to maintain said field. And.. nobody uses the field except the team on game day. Do pro teams practice on the game field? No. High schools don’t have that luxury. I prefer a PROPERLY MAINTAINED grass field over turf, but SeTx schools can’t do that. Between weather and money (lack of) turf is the way to go down here. Or.. keep your, “It was good enough for grandpa so it’s good enough now” mentality and keep losing to out of area teams that can actually practice the day after a storm. No skin off my back.1 point -

A well maintained grass field is preferred but thats often not realistic at the HS level....so unless you can be like Alice and have professionally maintained grass, turf is more practical especially when you factor in the wear and tear of junior high and sub-varsity games added in....I've seen some awful grass fields across our state because schools cant afford properly maintain them1 point -

Damn right I'm SETX! Almost got me figured out except for.... Never been much of a drinker except for the occasional margarita at a restaurant or a bourbon at the ranch, married with 1 daughter, and from time to time I will push mow my yard for a little extra exercise (I'm not afraid of the grass). Hope you don't make your living profiling people.1 point -

As far as high school sports go where the turf fields, generally speaking, are not the same quality and cost of an NFL field, there are more injuries on turf than on grass. I can quote numerous studies if necessary. It’s not just the field, but the correct type of turf shoes vs regular cleats that most high schools use. The caliber of helmets and knee braces and other PPE make a difference too. That’s not necessarily why I prefer grass, but it is a fact.1 point -

That seems to be a trait of most of our SETX talent. My son went to school with Tracy Byrd (I graduated with his mom) and he graduated with Clay Walker. Both good kids who seem to remember their roots.1 point

If there is an active criminal investigation I can see the requested information probably about a particular person. Just a general fishing expedition where they are searching everyone’s records in several counties, I can’t figure what lawful right they have or what federal law says that they can go into other law-enforcement records without consent. Maybe there is such a law but I have never heard of it. I have had an FBI agent in my office wanting information on a particular suspect. I was more than happy to give them that information. I did not know I would be in trouble if the agent simply said, step out of the way because I feel like digging through your files.1 point

dj reacted to WOSdrummer99 for a topic
Yes he can. After taking over the offense, he showed so much improvement thru the season. He definitely wasn't the same by the end. He got the ball out against eventual state champion China Spring. Just too many drops. Timing with WRs will be key to keep from being too one dimensional. We can't compete at that level if we lose our all time leading rusher like last year. Shaw and Mallet aren't Gales, at least not yet. Mallet, only a Sophomore, has the potential to break records.1 point -

I said before I thought it was a good year last year, for sure the way the first month and half went for the DAWGS. A magical run to game 16 is always nice to ponder. But realistically I think we will at least go 2 rounds again. Of course beyond that is even better. GO DAWGS!!1 point -

We've won outright or were co-champs 6 of the last 8 years in district play so we're kind of used to it by now. #6 is pretty stiff given the move up in class and the smallest enrollment but I think it would be more than deserved if we can start the season 2-0. I would imagine 1-5 are: 1. Denton Ryan 2. Longview 3. College Station 4. Manvel 5. Aledo1 point -

Predictions for district 9-5A DII
Rez reacted to Cougar14.2 for a topic
In the 5 years prior to last season FBM made it all 5 regional finals and played in two state title games. Their bad year last year they went 10-1. They got their reputation by doing stuff like beating Manvel by 30 in a regional final and beating our district champ 49-0 in a third round game. They usually have the most talent of any 5A school in the area outside of Manvel to go with one of the top 10 coaches in the area. Teams can have off nights but their reputation is very well deserved.1 point -
