Don’t confuse a majority Black campus by population with a historically Black school. For a history lesson, it goes back to a Supreme Court ruling 130 years ago in Plessy v. Ferguson. In that ruling the Supreme Court said that concept of “separate but equal” was not in itself discrimination and so state mandated segregation of the races was not unconstitutional under the 14th Amendment. (passed in 1868, right after the Civil War) So some states allowed or mandated separate schools for Blacks. Those separate schools were because Blacks weren’t allowed in other schools. That was the legality of the then historical Black schools. My mother graduated from Beaumont High School which was a (one of the) White campus in BISD and it later merged with Charlton-Pollard also of BISD, the historical Black school for that district. That created BCP. BCP then later combined with the other BISD high school, French, to form Central. (French was for a short time in FISD) So what was eventually Central high school was the combination of the two White high schools of BISD and the Black high school. So French ISD was taken into Beaumont ISD which was later taken into South Park ISD to form today’s BISD which started as 3 different districts. I believe that is the meaning of a historical Black school. It was a school created by forced segregation. That was overturned 62 years later by the Supreme Court case of Brown v. Board of Education, although I think it took the Civil Rights of 1964 to start enforcing it.

Marshman...LCM's admin has always been reactionary and non-visionary. They messed up when they inexplicably PAID their coaches. Much to their shock, the Bungling Bears won in year ONE! After admin finished spitting their playoff popcorn all over themselves, It took them months to craft an appropriate, apologetic, bowed and scraped written statement to the taxpayers regarding the next step - doing to do what should have been done ten years ago - bringing the stadium in to the 21st century! (It only takes 3 or 4 vocal complainers in the community to make the LCM admin soil their hip waders - Yes, I see you nodding.) It took until May to publish their tearful, Bidenian plea. One of admin's creative justifications for turf? The band students shouldn't have to practice on hot asphalt. The LARGEST STUDENT ORGANIZATION AT LCM just happens has been suffering from heat stroke and shin splints...FOR DECADES NOW...TRAGIC...AND BRILLIANT. (Administrative negligence...noted. And let me know when they stop practicing on asphalt, tee-hee.) Anyway, so yeah, it's late. TEN YEARS LATE. Aside from the occasional major city with a 4-A district, it would be real interesting at that level and below to know how many "travel" for a home game. I know it would be low. Imagine most would be a situation where a new high school was built and the old one became the junior high (hate the term middle school). Thus, the stadium is now off site from the high school until and if ever a new stadium is/was built.

Interesting question. In the 5A and 6A ranks there are many schools with no on-campus game day stadiums. School districts with multiple schools often have no on-campus game day facilities or 1 at the oldest high school. Totally different from your question, but it would be an interesting thing to know. How many schools, by classification, do not play games on campus?

I used to work in public accounting, and part of that work required interacting with the IRS on behalf of clients semi-regularly. Believe me, that agency needs all the help it can get lol.

I think Sterling fans are pretty realistic and realize how far away they really are. They've seen some good Lee teams so they know what good football should look like and they know they're no close to playing it. One thing that jumps out is the "He's in over his head" sentiment that someone posted in this thread earlier. I had a Lee graduate from the Dick Olin era who I really respect, who had a son playing for Coach Toomer, tell me the exact same thing with examples included. You can probably classify Sterling's personnel as "sufficient enough" to make the playoffs in this district though. As far as the playoffs I think there's only really one spot left up for grabs. Anything can happen but as of now I would give BH the nod with probably a 5-3 district record. I think they beat the three Baytown schools, Porter and La Porte for their five district wins. I think their game with Kingwood Park is a toss-up right now though? If I was to choose a dark horse in this district it would be La Porte. They have better personnel and now better coaching than the Baytown schools with the hire of Dobie's coach. They're also going to run a style of offense that this district doesn't defend against much. It's year one though, plus their coach got there late so I wouldn't be surprised to see them struggle again at all but I also wouldn't be surprised to see them go 4-4 in district play and back in to the dance on a tie-breaker.

You are correct, Meeks did have a good head coaching career & was good at turning programs around. Meeks won 3 state titles in Louisiana & 2 in Texas. 35 total years as head coach in Louisiana & Texas- 250-185-6 28 years as head coach in Texas- 164-149-4 record, 16-3-2 playoff record. 2 Texas State Championships, 1 State Title @ 4A Tyler Chapel Hill (1989), 1 State Title @ 3A- D1 Henderson (2010) 1989 Playoffs- Meeks led Chapel Hill team beat Terrell 17-0, Lancaster 25-0, Denison 16-13, Mount Pleasant 13-0, Big Spring 59-6, A&M Consolidated 14-0 in state title game 2010 Playoffs- Meeks led Henderson team beat North Lamar 49-12, Lindale 42-28, Lovejoy 36-14, Alvarado 20-13, Tyler Chapel Hill 28-21 in state title game

It has to be just wonderful for a young man at HD to play sports that knows about this website. A few locals either over hype things are some disgruntled parent is ripping coaches. A small town program that should be able to just play and enjoy their time has been set up for jokes and ridicule by those individuals. Not smart and definitely not productive.
