When I graduated high school I had been accepted to UT, Tech, and a couple of other smaller schools. My grades and SAT scores were good enough to get into just about anywhere I wanted, but not quite good enough to get the insane amounts of scholarships needed to avoid taking out massive student loans. I chose to live at home for a year, going to Lamar. I worked and saved money, and the scholarships I had received covered my tuition at the much cheaper school. After a year I transferred to East Texas Baptist University to join the soccer team (and to follow a gf). Tuition + room and board was about 6.5K a semester when I started (still very affordable compared to other schools). My parents helped as much as they could, I worked 30 hours a week, and I still had a few small scholarships that helped out. My junior year tuition went up to $8K. Before my senior year my fiancee and I realized that if we moved up our wedding a year we'd qualify for grants that we wouldn't have to pay back, so we went for it. My tuition dropped to $1200 my last two semesters, hers to $1800. I didn't borrow a penny. Would going to UT have been awesome? Yes it would have. But you know what was more awesome? Starting my grownup life with zero debt. I did not work my butt off and make smart financial decisions so that I could one day help dumb college graduates pay for the "full college experience". Please explain to me why there are people out there taking out $100K in loans to not only get meaningless degrees (I've known about 10 kids graduate with psychology degrees in the last 5 years, but none of them are using their degrees), but also MEANINGFUL degrees in professions that don't pay well. For example, if someone is dumb enough to go spend 200K on a teaching degree to enter a field that, while worthwhile and important, does not pay well at all, why the heck should they receive loan forgiveness for making dumb decisions? If you live close enough to commute to Lamar, even with today's inflated prices you can get a 4-year degree for $14,000. If you instead decide you want to incur massive student loans to pay for a $140,000 degree from Texas, I'd say it's up to you to find a job when you get out that will pay enough for you to take care of your own incurred expenses. If the government wants to fix this problem, the answer is not forfeiting hundreds of billions of dollars in student loans in increments that will only be a drop in the bucket for many anyway. I've seen significant research that shows after these loan payoffs it will only take 4 years for the amount of student loan debt to make it back to where it is currently. What's the point? The answer is regulation of college tuition and room and board costs. An in-state student pays $25K a semester for room and board + tuition at UT. It's 30K a semester to go to baylor. A&M is $26K a semester in-state. All of these schools are over $50K for a non-Texas resident per semester. These schools have anywhere from 30,000-50,000 students. We're talking profits in the billions. The primary purpose of colleges should not be money making. That is the real issue. But even still, I don't feel any different about someone who chooses to pay too much for a degree than I do for someone who ends up upside down on a vehicle note because they make 50K a year but "need" an 80K truck. Make responsible decisions, and don't expect the country to help you out when you don't.4 points

Your comparing ppp loans to help people keep their businesses a float because most state governors took away their ability to make a living by shutting their businesses down to Student Forgiveness Loans? 😂 That’s not even in the same ballpark of comparisons. I personally just about lost my business that I’ve had for 15 years during all that nonsense of shutting the economy down. I received a PPP loan during that time but once I found out I was eligible for unemployment for a short period time I returned every penny of that loan. I’ve worked 2 jobs for the past 2 years to help make up for the business I lost during that stupid shutdown of the economy! I am about 70% back to normal with my business. Hopefully within the next year I can go back to working one job. So keep talking out your rear if you want too.3 points

I think its funny that people feel entitled enough to ask for a game to be moved from a natural surface to turf. I understand a game being moved is a field is not playable...as in still being constructed but moving a game cause of the potential for sloppy conditions... C'mon man!2 points -

Neither do I, I have been very critical of Republicans and my posts show that. But to not recognize that the democrats have been on a witch hunt for Trump even before the 2020 election, to the point of creating false evidence against him when they had none is blindly ignoring reality imo. It isn't just Trump either, look how they savaged the Republican nominated SCJs with lies that they knew were lies. To support the democrats is the epitome of blindly following.2 points -

It's looking great. They struck bedrock today. Admin was hoping for some mineral rights. Unfortunately, they'll have to stick to the tax base of the Orange Grove and Dominos. They starting a Gofundme for fresh jock straps and admin parking garage. The new band complex will wait until 2030. BOJO!2 points -
Canceling student debt is a tax on the most responsible people in the country. Forcing people who worked hard to repay their loans or those who didn't have the luxury of going to college, to subsidize people who wasted $$$ on worthless gender study degrees is a slap in the face.2 points

I remember a few years back a game being played on Silsbee’s field in a mud pit. Field never recovered for the remainder of that year and beyond. Sometimes it’s about saving that natural field for the rest of the season.1 point -

Again you must be referring to when State Governors shut businesses down due to the plandemic, an taking away peoples ability to make a living. What’s there to be outraged about? You take away someone’s ability to make a living an expect them to pull money out of there rear to pay bills. He paused it with no accrued interest. That’s was the right thing to do in that situation imo. He didn’t eliminate the debt he paused it. There were many mortgage companies, car lenders, and other businesses that gave extensions on paying them to help people out.1 point

bingo. while it played no part in our decision to adopt, by adopting "at-risk" kids we've gotten tons of financial help/incentives from the government, I do understand the financial incentivization to encourage the adoption of kids who are difficult to place. While the help seems excessive at times, I'm certainly not giving any of it back, as I feel as though I've put plenty in over the years.1 point

You don't know my political affiliation - You assume you know because I give you examples of what Trump and other Republican's have done and are doing and you say nothing, as soon as a Democrat has done or did you come here and blast them. It looks a lot like BLIND LOYALITY. IMO - A lot of you on here do not hold the party you affiliate with (Rep & Dem) accountable for the waste and the things they have done wrong, but you're very quick to jump on the opposite party for similar things. That's hypocritical.1 point

What's interesting is that you scour the anti-consevative/Republican websites to find stuff like this (is it actually true?), but fail to have an opinion on the following: 1) Who's going to pay for this "loan forgiveness?" 2) It's clearly ILLEGAL what JoeBama has done. So, no, you are not unbiased. You have an leftist agenda!1 point

C.E. King vs Crosby
Yeoj reacted to Cougar14.2 for a topic
That's the difficult part about playing teams like CE King, North Shore, Duncanville, Desoto, etc. They already have a bunch of talent to begin with, throw in the fact that they're also open enrollment and you basically end up with select teams playing UIL football. If the UIL wanted to add an additional level of "fairness" outside of the enrollment caps they could do something like the NCAA and allow the one-time transfer free of penalty. Crosby has had kids denied even when they had legit Crosby addresses. We've had kids that had to sit out a season like one of our starting LBs this year, and still currently have kids with eligibility issues. It kind of puts you at a disadvantage for doing things the right way. Meanwhile, talent-rich schools get even more rich.1 point -

Missouri school reinstated corporal punishment
5GallonBucket reacted to tvc184 for a topic
That isn’t only with punishment or school but with any endeavor. Incentives, whether positive or negative, is almost always the determining factor in behavior. Therein lies the reason that social programs generally don’t work. Obviously some programs are life savers for some motivated people (going back to incentivizes) but for a substantial percentage of people, it is a justification to fail or never strive to improve. in my opinion……1 point -

It will never come from the state. Both the Obama- and Clinton-era civil rights offices at the US Department of Education expressly stated that American Indian-themed mascots are not themselves forms of race-based discrimination cognizable to federal anti-discrimination laws like Title VI. Even American Indian activists with legal backgrounds quietly admit they’re not optimistic about that changing. I don’t think the existing legal landscape is favorable to it, either. The only possibility left after that is a new federal legislative effort. I don’t think there’s much chance that bill’s even filed, much less that it passes. Keep in mind that it wouldn’t just affect PN-G, it would affect hundreds of high schools across the country, including in blue states, and some reservation schools. It would also affect major universities like Florida State. All that makes it politically untenable. I’m not going to tell you it’s impossible, but I’m a lawyer and I work in politics for a living. A ten year timeline is not realistic. And that has nothing to do with my personal opinion that the opposition to the mascot is ridiculous, as a Cherokee descendant whose great grandfather lived on the reservation in Oklahoma until he died and whose grandfather grew up there.1 point -

If everyone would get on the same page they can put a stop to the wokeness that has brought our country into the 3rd world. Boycott the casinos get on board and petition the state to shut down all gambling in the state of Texas. We must stop spending our hard earned money on people that do not share our values. We are allowing this to happen. I do not watch pro football and I now will not visit my local Casino or do any business at their store. Before I spend my hard earned money I do my homework. It only takes a second.1 point -

This seems like PNG having a nothing to lose and everything to win kind of game. PAM on the other hand has the pressure of being embarrassed. They bring in a team expected to win and having a good season against a smaller team with a new head coach. If PNG loses, especially if keeping it close, they have nothing to be ashamed about. If PAM loses……..1 point -
Can new PNG defense hold up vs. the size, athleticism, speed & fast paced offense of P.A? Offensive Master Mind Faircloth is gone. Pressure is on the new rookie coaching staff at PNG, rookie PNG OC that's never called plays vs. strong P.A. defense & P.A. coaching staff tired of hearing they choke in big games should lead to a P.A. win.... But you can never count out the Indian pride, tradition, fight & HOME field advantage at the Indian burial ground.1 point
