I remember Dan Rather taking Walter Cronkite’s spot. Cronkite was the best and irreplaceable. Rather thought the world owed him a living for supposedly dodging bullets in Vietnam. I’d rank him with Brian Williams. Rather probably staged the live fire. It’s sad when you get better info on this board and Facebook than from people who call themselves journalists.2 points

Great show once again. It's always interesting to hear an outside perspective on our little neck of the woods. Last week vs LCM was the best cross town rivalry game in years. Shame you missed it. PNG should be a good one too. I don't think this game is as close as predicted. But I like the hype you built for it. Think it depends on which 2 teams show up. CNN & Politico Going Unbiased ?
LumRaiderFan reacted to Hagar for a topic
Allegedly the new CEO at CNN, & owner of Politico are going unbiased. I’ll believe it when I see it but it’d be nice to have real News Networks again. You remember those if you’re old enough. They reported what was happening. No biased reporting, just the facts. Thinking back, you’d have to be about 60 or 70 to have seen those. That’s hard to believe in itself. Are any of you Oldtimers as shocked as I am over this time frame? Has it really been that long? Yep, I think so. [Hidden Content]1 point -

The thread and post still remains up so it's still an "open forum". But let's remember a very important fact. This website is independently owned and operated and rules and regulations are set by this owner and carried out by the moderators. This is not a democratic authority. Posts can and will be removed if deemed necessary. So the term "open forum" is not exactly accurate. You may need to look at forum rules a little more closely. As for this particular thread, if someone makes a thread with this type subject matter, one should expect feedback, both positive and negative.1 point -

Not a big fan of the British Royal Family, but she’s the exception. Plunged into the position of Queen at 25 when her father died. She was 27 when coronated. As a youth, during WW-II, she walked the walk, assisting the war effort anyway she could. Essentially rolling up her sleeves and working side by side with her future subjects. Class? She was the epitome of the word. Be difficult, if not impossible, to name any comparable world leader. We’ll be a long time seeing her like again. RIP Queen Elizabeth ✝️✝️✝️1 point

Pastor/Priest Burnout
LumRaiderFan reacted to Hagar for a topic
I struggled with which thread to place this. Since politics play an important part in the problem, I finally decided to put it here. [Hidden Content] Is the Devil alive & well? This article indicates he is. Our Pastors & Priest are being overwhelmed by him & his minions. There’s a quote by Tucker Carlson in here that explains a lot, “Christianity is dying and being replaced by the cult of Coronavirus”. There’s no doubt that we, as a nation, were in trouble mentally prior to Covid. Then came this fiasco and along with it lockdowns, no lockdowns, mask, no mask, on the edge of insanity, and finally insanity. Yep, just look at the craziness and crime going on now. And our pastors & Priest are caught in the middle. When we should be turning to God, many are turning away. Scary times folks. Real scary times.1 point -
Mandatory…. IF it is prosecuted as such. For example…. It has been a while since I looked up the penalties but a habitual violator (three strikes on any felonies except a state jail felony which is basically an enhanced misdemeanor) carries a 25 year minimum sentence. As an example, a guy is intoxicated, runs a stop sign and hits another vehicle. It causes a broken foot on the other driver but nothing life threatening. That is Intoxication Assault and a third degree felony or a 2-10 sentence. BUT, a few years ago he was convicted of using his 70 year old grandmother’s credit card and on another occasion, got caught with a single rock of cocaine and convicted. So he was caught in two fairly low key felonies (no injuries or even threats to anyone) non-violent felonies. All the cases carried the 2-10 year sentence. Since the guy previously used his grandmother’s credit card without permission and since he got caught with a rock of cocaine, for the broken foot in a DWI accident he is now facing 25-99 as a habitual violator. Even Murder has a 5-99 penalty so in this case the broken foot in an accident actually carries a stiffer of penalty than Murder. That is an extremely powerful tool for prosecutors. So let’s play the plea bargain what if game. We (DA) will let you plead guilty to intoxication assault and 10 years in prison as the maximum sentence. You can potentially get out on parole in about two years. OR……. you can go to trial and face a jury and they can give you a 25 year minimum and up to 99 years. So if you are the accused and reasonably certain of a conviction, do you accept the maximum sentence and get out two years or do you face with jury that might give you up to 99? Therefore, while there are a mandatory sentencing guidelines for a three strike felony, whether a DA makes a plea deal or not can mean everything. So 2-10 or 25-99? That is why you see stories like a guy that has eight felony convictions but is walking the streets. So to your question, are there mandatory for three felonies convictions? Absolutely!! Are these potential life sentences prosecuted to the max? Absolutely……. not.1 point

Everyone is entitled to his/her opinion, and I hear what you are saying. Your opinion is valid and just as good, if not better than mine. I'm not arguing or being a jackass. Just pointing out that no one, no one on this earth, loves PN-GISD more than Lance Billeaud. I know him well. He is a friend. He is all-in, 100% invested in PN-G. He does not care about race, ethnicity, gender, how much money you make, what you drive, where you live, or what sport or activity you participate in at PN-G. If you're a PN-G Indian, Lance Billeaud cares about you. If PN-G has its doors open, Lance is there. He works many hours behind the scenes to secure sponsors for the PN-G radio broadcasts. He's the fire chief in Groves. He loves Groves and its neighboring cities, Port Arthur, Port Neches, and Nederland. If Lance Billeaud is your friend, you have the best friend there is. I like Dave Hofferth on play-by-play. Who wouldn't want Dave Hofferth calling your team's game? Not everyone is Dave Hofferth. I'm just glad that PN-G has a radio broadcast and three people willing to donate their time to call the game. I know...going off script drives some people crazy. I get it, but Lance is our guy and I appreciate what he, Francis, and Rachel do for the PN-G kids. Francis is slowly converting to purple and white...he's still has some ground to cover to completely forget his Nederland loyalties. I appreciate that he cares enough about PN-G kids to donate his time and call the game. Just my 0.02 cents.1 point

I think what KF meant there is the last several years we have had a mobile qb, guys who could run and throw, this year isn't it. I believe that Vidor will be fine once district starts. They have some holes to fill and things to figure out but they are getting there, it's not where you start is where you finish. I think that the 2 teams they have faced thus far are better then the teams we had played at this point last year. These games mean nothing, until district.1 point
-
I hope you are right also My thoughts on the Bulldogs is not because they are 0-2, but because they have been BLOWN out both games. I don’t know whether it is due to a lack of talent, coaching, effort,or inexperience. It is probably a combination of all of these As of today, I see extreme weakness in these areas - QB, OL, and secondary Unless these position areas get better fast, the Bulldogs don’t have much chance of winning this season For those who disagree, I suggest that you go back and look at film of those 2 games and evaluate those 3 areas. If you do I think you will realize why I say this!1 point

prepballfan reacted to Rez for a topic
The person I quoted and responded to said the following : “Basically have 3 possible chances for wins this season. Willow Ridge, GP, SF” So if Nederland is predicted (by that person) as only being able to beat Willow Ridge, GP, and SF, the implication is that they will lose to PNG. Also, if you’re talking about Nederland, you’re talking about PNG. It’s in the Bible, probably.1 point -

Yes, I attended the PNG-BU game. I also attended the entire PNG-PAM game. And the PNG-LCM scrimmage, and been watching a few PNG practices (I'm retired, so why not?). My youngest grandson plays for PNG, but I'm fairly objective I think. The BU game got out of hand for BU, similar to (but not exactly the same as) the PAM game did for PNG. I'm not quoting exact numbers, but roughly PNG had almost 400 yards of offense, fairly close to what PAM had. In comparison BU had roughly 100 yards last Friday, to PNG's 400. I was pretty impressed with LCM at the scrimmage. PNG was pretty rough around the edges. But still PNG held their own individually. One play that LCM didn't fall for was PNG's screen pass attempt. PNG tried it again against PAM and PAM was sitting on it like Altuve and Tucker sitting on those fast balls yesterday, and #11's lob pass was disastrous, and came at a bad time. I was glad to see that the screen pass play was scrapped last Friday night, and I hope it stays that way. Anyway, just based on what I've seen of the LCM-WOS game, they appeared pretty evenly matched. So, if LCM and PNG were evenly matched, then PNG and WOS should be fairly evenly matched. And with PNG coming off of a big away win, and things hopefully beginning to gel, then I give an advantage to PNG, with everything else being equal, even at the WOS home field. Sorry for my earlier use of the word "should".1 point

Rez reacted to Cougar14.2 for a topic
We’ll see what PNG looks like this week against another team who can execute plays at the varsity level? Lots of mistakes on offense and lots of guys out of position on defense during the PAM game. It was very impressive what PNG was able to do to BU’s personnel but I think PNG needs to get through this week before you can really start to estimate a trajectory for them. BU is a 5A level HISD football team and that may be doing a disservice to Houston Madison. PNG dispatched them exactly how they should’ve if they’re going to be a good team this year. During the summer I said I would be interested to see if PNG offense looked more like Katy’s or SLC’s? I said one place I thought PNG had been well above average recently was the offensive line and that a Katy style offense might highlight that. Well not only does it look like Katy, they’re running the patented zone play from under center that they’ll eventually throw the play-action off of. It’s also a staple play for Carthage. I eventually expect them to start running the crack-toss and the toss counter which are the other staple plays of Katy and Paetow. One thing I saw in both games is that PNG still needs to get better at tackling in space and sticking with guys in the secondary. They probably have the personnel to make a real run at a district championship though. #19 for PNG is a baller but Prosperie is still PNG’s best offensive weapon. For whatever reason he kind of seems like an afterthought in PNG’s new offense. That being said, that’s a hard point to argue when you put up 49. Again though, you want to see them do it against a competent team.1 point -

This game will be a god indication of our coaching staff and their ability to game plan. The passing game we used last week, will be non existent against WOS. Defensively WOS will play tight and bring pressure, you won’t see a CB playing 10 yards off the ball. I’m anxious to see how this shakes out. For PNG to win, I think it will need to be a strong performance by the O Line, Tommy will need to run for 100+ yards, and no turnovers on the PNG side, if we can do that, and make it a competitive game, we have a shot to win in the end. If we turn the ball over, as we did against Memorial, it will be a long night.1 point
-
Why would a defense that gave up 81 total yards be “lacking” in confidence? On the contrary. PNG D better not be overconfident in practice this week. WOS is a different beast. I will say that was the best pursuit and tackling I have seen from PNG in years.1 point
