The success is undeniable. Less than 2 scores per game for our history and more shut outs than losses, but that defensive scheme had to go? Are we trying to continue the tradition or destroy it?

The problem in my opinion is that many or maybe most of these “fights” aren’t fights. That is a cop out and a convenient explanation. They are assaults, sex assaults, robberies, probably kidnappings, etc. Everybody knows and has said that fights at school have been around since there were schools. How many times did I hear at school, meet me at the bicycle rack after third period or what became popular for a time, let’s meet behind the church. That was across the street from the school and not on school property so we thought we were exempt from consequences. But the theme was the same. A couple of guys had a score to settle and they did, often not a spur of the moment burst of testosterone but a planned event with the aforementioned, meet me at…… Luring kids into a restroom for a robbery, having a pre planned beat down of a timid kid by a gang of bullies is not part of, “there have always been fights”. So yeah, covid might have played a part if it was just tempers flaring. I don’t buy it though. Kids were in school together for 9 years and being out of school for a year all of a sudden they don’t know how to act? Sometimes? Sure. But again, this isn’t tempers running high. If it is a result of covid, shouldn’t every school be suffering the same consequences? There are two major emotional or logical motivating factors in behavior. Those are incentives and consequences. Incentives. Why do some people go to college? Why do some people volunteer for overtime? Why do some people choose one profession over another? It is the personal desire to achieve money, status, a desired profession and so on. Most of the time it is a combination of the and other factors. Consequences. If it were not for laws, social status, etc, and if there were no consequences, would any of us act differently? If Texas retains the 5 speckled trout limit but then says, we will no longer all out game wardens to enforce that law, how many otherwise upstanding people would always stop at legal but unenforced limit? If the speed limits remained the same but the police were told to no longer in force them, how many people would speed or how high would they go? When you take away incentives to work, is there any shock that many people won’t work? When you take away consequences, is there any shock that bad behavior increases, sometimes dramatically? I believe that some people will always be bums. They existed long before any welfare system came into play. I believe that there will always be and has been criminals no matter how severe the law. But what are the percentages? We have probably all heard the 10-80-10 (15-70-15, 20-60-20, etc) management concept. It is like 10% of the people will always do the right thing, 10% will always do the wrong thing but the 80% in the middle will go which way they are led. Which way has our country (and the world ) been led on incentives and consequences?

I agree. Coach Matthews has said in interviews that Vidor runs its system because they don’t have the personnel to run other systems. That’s foolishness. The spread, for example, was created for teams that aren’t as fast or big as their opponents. Vidor is not significantly different in terms of speed or body types or lack of actual athletes than PNG and Nederland. If PNG and Nederland can run modern offenses, so can Vidor. The worst part is Vidor isn’t even executing their Slot-T offense as well as they could. Liberty Hill runs a similar offense and is nearly unstoppable. They don’t appear to be bigger or faster than their opponents. They just run their system so well it’s hard for even more athletic teams to keep up (Crosby took all it had and then some to beat LH in 2020, and never actually stopped their offense). But are Vidor’s players less athletic, less intelligent, less willing to play than comparable school, less tough? No. Vidor’s problems are 100%, and have always been, a problem of teaching. Get coaches that believe in the players and don’t blame the players for the coach not knowing how to teach more balanced systems, and Vidor starts winning a lot more games a lot more consistently.

You talk about the ref as an excuse but I have been at basketball games where the former principal would tell a ref that they better call it for BH or they will never ref another game in BH. Just like last night at the freshman game, your superintendent had to get on the field in the back of the endzone and argue with the official trying to slow the game down cause he could see they were being out played and out worked, because he couldn’t handle himself. Tell me that’s not trying to abuse power.

Nobody was complaining when they won District last year. They would have went further in the playoffs also if there top 4 running backs were not hurt. I also believe they could run another offense but this scheme is what we’re running now so I’ll continue to support the coaches and team regardless of all the Ya Ya from all the bleacher coaches.

So THIS is the Blue Link Defense we’ve been hearing about! Actually I’m glad they changed the name before this happened.

Correct. TL isn't able to do every playoff game but they do have the rights and schools have to get permission from UIL and TL.

The game was done because TL has a contract with Silsbee. Vidor just happened to be the opponent. Game was supposed to be a home game for Silsbee. TL has done every Silsbee game so far this season.

Last freshman score I got was freshman-A 51-0 over Porter.

The water has to be drinkable. The kids know the game plan stinks and that's why they don't buy in. The kids know that the coaches don't believe in their athletic ability and that's why we are still sub .500 Slot-Ting it 23 years later.

Back in the “old days”, when one went down it was usually over. Today once someone goes down the other jumps on him/her and pounds & kicks. IMO, that’s where criminal charges should come into play. Based on what’s going on today, I’m so far out of touch with our society/laws. Criminals are instantly released. The victim will probably be sued if him/her defends himself. My world has been turned upside down. Common sense is no longer common.

When a statement is made attempting to actually sound knowledgeable about Football tactics/techniques/positions, but instead outs themselves as the complete opposite, it is worthy of the negative feedback.
