Tiger, the way the hiring process went down combined with the changes he's made has made many WOS faithful on edge. He could not control the hiring process, but he did know the culture at WOS. Again, with everything else going on, changing what made WOS, WOS was not the best idea IMO. By that, he's put himself in a precarious situation. I'll say this, too. I've stated my opinion about the changes, but in that I'm not saying I want him gone. I'm hoping he's big enough to recognize when he's made a mistake and adjust. Cornel did it with his offense after he took the helm in 2011. There's nothing wrong with trying something different. But keeping it just because it's what you want is when it becomes a problem. The measure of a true leader is not about getting it right every time. It's being able to admit when you are wrong and making the necessary adjustments to correct that mistake. Understanding that the program comes first and bigger than you are. This is a defining moment for him.

Silsbee ran the 50 while Hickman was there. Hickman played in the 50 at Silsbee. He knows it.

Man… that district is something… Even if Bellville gets the district championship we still get to play WOS, Silsbee, Jasper , or HF in the first round. I mention all 4 because I think they all have somewhat of a shot at finishing 1-4… My personal opinion thinks it will be Jasper or HF but you never know.

I think u have a situation where , you have to hire a new DC and def assistants. They want to coach a Defense they are familiar and comfortable with. Just happens that the current players are struggling with playing it, and if things continue to slide down hill, the kids will start to not buy in to the change. Regardless of this weeks outcome, things will probably get better as they play the weaker teams in the district. But if and a big (if) they loose to Silsbee, and HF, gonna be a tough go? Any other school it would work out in time, but the expectations at WOS are so high, that the stress level on all involved may be too much? But, dont be shocked if all this gloom and doom talk is nought, WOS wins out in district , and goes sev rounds in the playoffs. I would consider that a successful first year for Hickman . JMO

Wrong. Hickman started at Silsbee as an assistant, then became Defensive Co. After McGallion retired he put in for head coaching job at Silsbee but did not get it (Randy Smith got the job, still there). Then he was hired by Cornel to be an assistant at WO-S. Hickman has been at WO-S for over 6 years now.

In a way I think they have already become the norm. As WOSdrummer99 said, it is a classic battle between good and evil. The main problem today is that the evil has been made main stream. Now it seems fashionable to side with evil for political reasons. This isn’t about HS football though and it just happened to be the venue for this incident. Society is the problem. I have posted many times in several forums, when you lock down the schools, a person intent on evil will simply change his target or find another way to hit the same target.

That name alone should have you banned.

I got it wrong then. I thought Hickman had gone back to Silsbee a couple years ago. Sorry about that. I look for Silsbee to get the win, and WOS will struggle against Lumberton and H-F. The others are wins. I don't see them going more than 2 deepin the playoffs IF they get into post season play.

Funny how BH can do no wrong. You won a hard battled game and then you say it was wrong for Crosby to do what they did last year but it’s ok for your team to do it to them only because it’s in return. How about lead by example if you want to preach how classy you are compared to others. I see a coach not touching any players but yelling at them to get back as they are surrounding him and I see #10 shaking players hands like a man until one player comes over laughing in his face and hits helmet to helmet with him talking trash. Then he pushes him and the rest gang up on him. You can say what you want but I slowed it down to look at all the stuff you said you thought happen but the film doesn’t lie.

High school football games have been shot up in mass shootings forever? I kind of feel like even in the “old days” when we had three television channels, and they went off air at midnight, if several people would be shot at a high school football game, we would have heard about it.

Even in PA Memorial's worst years Sterling has NEVER been a trap game, hell one year Sterling was the favorite and we won (Coach Harrison's son Soph yr), pipedown youngster and just hope we get out of this week healthy, you know those Baytown kids can play a little dirty some years when facing PA Memorial.

Bug, I think it's many things that begin with changing from the 50. I think the present coach is a great person, but, I think it's a poor decision to come in and the first thing you do is change the first thing you said you wouldn't change. That also happens to be the foundation the program was built on. You know, it's kind of one of those deals, if your going to come in and change the foundation of the program, you sure as heck better be successful at it. I agree with DJ in that we don't have the personnel to run the 40. There's a reason we ran the 50 all these years. The lineman you need at the 3 techniques we don't have every year. The 50 plays into what we have in abundance, quickness. That, and we don't tackle like Mustangs anymore and I can only wonder if we still hit and tackle in practice (we may, that's just speculation). I've seen the people on FB blaming it on a young team and an overall lack of talent from years past. I coached these kids and the 10 classes before them. This class has as much talent, experience and ability as the last 2 or 3. All in all, I hope they get this thing rolling. But, when you make changes to something that didn't need changes, you put yourself on a much shorter leash than you would had you truly attempted to "continue the tradition".

Everything will improve with diversity. The Superintendent is the first thing that needs to go.

You are right about the population moving away from Orange, even if they work here. They do not want their kids in WO schools. There is no diversity in the school, the athletics, the school board or the administration. West Orange has turned into another Wallace. First thing needs to happen is at least half the school board has to go. The superintendent has to go, and his lackey he brought in from Silsbee has to go. People need to show up on elections to the school board, to begin with. Let's get this done. Bring diversity back to West Orange and the whole community will profit.

I know quite a few people going to watch this game. Many has a good football team, it won't surprise me if they win.

I had expected it to take longer to plunge the program into mediocrity, but maybe it is a fitting tribute. Hopefully people will finally realize just how singularly important Coach Thompson was to the program and the real ramifications of his absence.
