    Coach Bashing

This season, more so than any other that I can remember in my 15 or so years on SETXsports, we're having a major problem with multiple posters from multiple teams continually bashing, criticizing, and insulting various area coaches. Moderators have had to post the no coach-bashing rule in multiple threads that have gone off the rails due to complaints about coaching. There are ways to express yourself without violating this rule. If you can't find a way to do so, I'd suggest avoiding the topic completely. I don't care if WOS goes 2-8, if Vidor runs the ball up the middle 200 times in a row, or if Hull-Daisetta doesn't listen to the experts and mismanages the clock while calling the wrong plays. Anyone who violates this rule during the remainder of the season is receiving an immediate one-week ban. Violations are decided by moderator discretion. If you continue to violate the rule once you return you will be banned permanently. If you're about to make a post about coaching, but you're not sure if it's okay, don't make it. Save your opinion for facebook, or better yet, go to the game and scream it in the stands with the other coaching experts. It's important to remember that while our site encourages healthy discussion, we demand an atmosphere of respect towards our local players, coaches, and communities, no matter your opinion of their performance.. Please remember that this post is your free warning. Any questions about this rule, or about a post you'd like to make, may be sent to myself or other moderators in private message for clarification without repercussions. Below, for the fiftieth time, is the rule that so many of you continue to violate. Thank you, and happy posting. 18 ) The bashing of any particular coach, player, referee, etc will not be tolerated. This includes issues involving their personal lives, coaching/playing style or performance, past experiences, etc.

  2. 3A Franklin is 5-0 this season running the Slot T, won State Championship last year. 5A Liberty Hill Slot T is 4-1 this year with one lost by 7 points, an are averaging almost 50 points a game this year. Made it to State Championship last year an fell short.

  3. Opportunity for some of yalls youngsters to make a name for themselves and give their coaches a headache about who should get more playing time once those who are injured returns. 🤷🏾‍♂️ It would be okay if they waited til next week to play well though 😁

  4. regardless of what people may think KT was an absolute monster for us during the 97 & 98 WOS football seasons. He was the back up QB as well but Cornel used his heart & determination to be a hybrid at the Rover End in the 50 defense (which is basically a defensive back in a nickel package/defense). He was a unanimous AllState selection despite his stature. I remain quiet on alot that's spoken here because much of what some of you say isn't worth a wet roll of toilet paper. Lol But I will say this - my main gripe was "be careful what you ask for" when there became an outcry to run CT out of town. Now kids can't even line up properly, at times looking completely lost as if they aren't even coached up in practice. I'm baffled how all of a sudden the WOS defense cant tackle, defend the deep ball, or control the line of scrimmage on either side.

  5. AP did it without their All-State senior running back too. And they are plagued by penalties each week. They were tri-district champs last year and now they have a legit QB who will be playing on Saturdays, and that analysis is based on him as a FRESHMEN. Before week 5 he had just under 1000 yards, 11 TDs 1 int. So my point is now they have an offense that can be carried by their star running back or now by their QB.

  6. Toby has sent something like 30-40 kids to school on FULL RIDES. He is very involved with the track program which anybody will tell you, a good track team correlates to a good football team. He is well connected and respected by college coaches.

  8. Just looked at the highlights on Hudl. Once KP got their feet under them, they were just getting huge chunks of yardage. I noticed in the Lee Crosby freshman highlights, Crosby would just zero blitz on defense every play, and it worked at that level against Lee for sure, but I thought in my head that this is not really teaching them anything about a real game and real defensive principles. KP was just gashing them every time they did the same in those highlights. What else do they have to fall back on if that's the call 95% of the time as a freshman? Just because you have a big athletic QB that could QB sneak for ten yards each play doesn't mean you QB sneak 45 times in a row at the freshman level. That's not teaching anything that will be valuable later. Same goes for defense. Just because it works there in 9th grade. There is nothing to be gained from doing it.

  9. If it's the 2 certain players on offense I'm thinking about that's not good at all. Already had a WR out right?

  10. 10-4, I watched your FBM game you guys have some giants on your team. - I've been on the board lately rattling some cages just for a little fun. Every other year Dayton would be an automatic win for our opponents. This year we have a decent team and actually fun to watch. PNG and Big Ned always a class act good luck going forward.

  11. Honestly I don’t know the answer to that question. Maybe BigEnos could answer that for you. I do know for a fact that they run a heck of a lot more plays in practice than they’ve shown in non district play. Maybe it’s a strategy on the coaches part. I guess we’ll see in a couple of weeks.

  13. The process is the problem. Where in the Constitution does it say that Congress can set limitations on constitutional authority of a president? Everybody in the fact check article, even the Democrats who claim the “process” said that ultimately it is the president’s call on what is classified. Their claim is that he has to come ask first even though they cannot intervene. It is like I explained on the Trump impeachment by the House. It was questioned by the Republicans if anything brought up rose to the level of a high crime or misdemeanor as “required” in the Constitution. In other words, if Trump did everything that was claimed, is it enough to constitutionally remove a president? The Chief Justice said that it doesn’t matter. The Constitution gives Congress the authority to determine what is a high crime or misdemeanor since it was not defined in the Constitution. No one else including the president or the Supreme Court, can change that. The Republicans asked Chief Justice Roberts to step in and end the trial in the Senate. His response was that he has no such constitutional authority. The Constitution clearly gives the House the authority to impeach and he cannot change that but he has to, by the Constitution, act as the presiding judge. As an example, if the Republicans take back the House in a few weeks, their first action in January can be to impeach Biden. If the Democrats argue, there is no good reason, the Chief Justice has spoken. He is the presiding judge in the Senate for removal and he said that he has no authority to step in on Congress’s constitutional authority. What might be comical if that happens, the Democrats who laughed at the Republicans for claiming that the House didn’t have the authority two years ago, would now claim the exact same thing that they previously hailed as the law. It is the same with presidential authority. You questioned Ihe “process”. Does Congress have the constitutional authority to tell the president what to do as the commander in chief? The Democrats claim is that yes because Obama said so. And no, I am not kidding. Does Obama have the authority to override the Constitution because that is the claim from the Democrats, Obama set out a process. As an example then, could Trump has cut an executive order that future presidents could not make treaties with other countries where the Constitution says ONLY the president can make treaties? Does the Constitution say, this is the law unless a president doesn’t like it for future presidents? As I said in my first comment, the Supreme Court has never issued a ruling on presidential authority or a congressional requirement on classified documents, much of which is likely constitutional and goes into the separation of powers. Whether Trump can verbalize it, put it in writing or merely take a briefcase home with him (his thoughts), can Congress or a former president ban him from doing so? So far there is no legal answer from the Supreme Court.

    Crosby vs PAM

I'd imagine so but you'd also think a kid wouldn't make that move unless they believed they had a solid case for the UIL, I have seen it occur when they could prove they were closing on a house before the season started. To be fair I've seen that 3 times. All three situations were Rental -> purchase that started before season but for reasons took a long period to finalize. Not sure what this kids situation actually was but baselessly making claims of recruiting seems to be outside the interest of everyone involved. The only person that gets hurt by the UIL is the kid.

  18. They weren’t even close a couple of weeks ago. The visitor restrooms weren’t finished and the ramps and stairs weren’t complete either. Not to mention construction debris still everywhere. From what I can tell by driving by the ramps and stairs are done, there might be a little work on the inside of the visitor RR left and all the debris is gone. They are patching the parking lot where it was torn up. They have four more days of nice weather they should have it done. If not the ISD needs to be getting money back from the builder.

  20. Those who played their senior year know homecoming is circled regardless of who you are playing. You want to win. These are the following things going in the Bears direction. 1. Bye week coming off a bad performance against a good team. Plenty of time to refocus and adjust attitudes. 2. New turf and biggest score board in SETX to be debuted. 3. Aforementioned homecoming 4. Stands will be packed with rabid fans 5. The weather will be the epitome of Friday Night Lights. If you can't get hyped and play lights out under those circumstances turn your jersey in. Peevey rights the ship and the Bears head off into district with a three score victory.

  24. Its fairly simple "Coaching" These District has no program builders!! and the ones they have don't stay long. Its never been talent. If you think schools like Westlake, Liberty Hill, Midland Lee, Katy etc have more talent your crazy, but what they do have that makes them look better is dedication and buy in, and honestly I can't even be mad at the kids for not having that here, when the coaching is a revolving door in BISD???? Then not only does BISD want to hire their homeboys when its way better qualified candidates who know how to build up programs, to the point coaches don't even want to apply in the city anymore but they lowball coaches with sub-par salaries so who would want to come here??? Im just tell this story and let y'all figure it out. In 2008-2011 my nephew attended Central when coach Stowers was the coach. His parents was taking him and his siblings for summer vacation but instead of going he wanted to stay with me to attend summer workouts mind you he was a sophomore, not even on varsity. When I would go drop him off most of the team was at workouts or on the field, so much so they had to divide the kids into different workout groups which the older kids said hadn't been done since they arrived. Then 7on7 was mandatory so when they went 4 rounds in 09 I wasn't really surprised. those kids were brought in and believed in Stowers. Im not sure the kids are there right now thus the results we've seen this this past years. This is also how schools like Katy work. My nephew ended up getting a scholarship, so during the summer he would come live with me in Houston to train with Kerry Bennett (Orange Tx native) at a gym he had in Katy. He would tell me after him and other college players from various schools would finish their workout sessions the whole varsity Katy football team would meet up there at 5 for workouts every other day during the summer on top of the team workouts they had already did earlier that morning. for their 2nd workout of the day before 7 on 7 practice. All Player Led!!! The coaches had nothing to do with it, and when a player didn't show up his teammates would deal with him... Thats It that's the difference. When players are brought in, the parents are Brought in and it can change everything and that starts from the top Coaching!!

  25. I hesitate to even comment on this but I want to say one thing coach cornel was a good coach and a good man. Hiawatha is a good man and has been a good coach. He will be a good head coach. Toby applied for the Silsbee job when Hiawatha did and though he had more experience he did not get the job because the administrators in Silsbee thought Coach Smith was the man for the job. I like Hiawatha but hope Coach Smith is here for a long time.

  26. Yep. That 2007 season was very special for Lumberton. Finished 11-2 with their only losses coming from PN-G in district and Waller in the regionals. Defeated all mighty LaMarque in the playoffs that year. Lumberton gave up less than 14 points a game in that season.

  27. That's why I use the word "Outsiders " Because certain people with free speech Which I love& have no problem with wasn't at practice wasn't walking the halls ,wasn't riding the streets of WOS doesn't have a kid in the program Most likely have never had a conversation with Coach T but they know.. Lol @Mr. Buddy Garrity your a smart guy I want you to really think about and ask yourself why was this Tiger/Coach pulling double duties on a Cornell Thompson staff ,Hmmmmmm

  28. @LCMAlumtiger32 your right We (WOCCISD) HIRED a Tiger that a tiger didn't even hire, for whatever reason A tiger that was a part time coach (theoretically )at the time of hire Because of our lovely superintendent grooming him for the AD/HC Position ...LOL #IFYOUKNOWYOUKNOW FACTS

  31. I guess as a outsider because im from orange. Silsbee didnt hire Hick at silsbee as Head Coach they went with Smith instead. Hmm i wonder why? I understand why Toby didnt get the iob the first time. He had to compete with a great coach but now hearing all these things about CT why didn't WOS stand up then? But i heard that hick had the job in the bag before he got hired and that WOS didnt go outside to fine a great coach. Because the list of coaches that applied were people ive never heard of. You cant tell me no one wanted one of the most talented teams in the state.

  34. It might get ugly, but Silsbee needs to work on being more disciplined. A good clean game with no bone headed penalties should be a goal to aim for this week.

  35. Yea I bet we won’t lose during the bye week lol make it 2 weeks of peace and quiet. Two wins in a row vs the church schools but coming soon we get LCM and L-Town. The frantic fans will be back with a vengeance, until then we celebrate.

  36. Crosby just isn't as good this year and have moved up to a more difficult level. They don't never have had an advantage in coaching. They did it with much better athletes and need that advantage to win. They are not going to out coach teams.

  42. I posted the following in the WB Summer Creek thread WB and BU are low on talent lately but even if Beaumont had 1 school, 2 schools, or 3 it wouldn’t make a difference. For the most part, and there are a few exceptions but not many, the successful schools in 5 and 6a are large suburban schools in which the districts have money and the parents too. The schools have better facilities, coaches, and the parents have money to pay for individual coaching. For the most part WB and BU are missing both of these two ingredients. It’s sad, but Beaumont ain’t what it used to be and it’s getting much worse. The schools are dangerously close to being like inner city schools. This isn’t the kids fault and I feel sorry for them because it’s the parents and former administrators that ruined everything. Maybe they can turn it around but it’s unlikely. A drop to 5a might help but people of all types are leaving BISD and I think that’s what left won’t win many games.

  43. So, Beaumont with a population of 115K with one high school. I submit as evidence Alief and Plano as ISDs with huge schools and no success in football. When the UIL works their majic in '24, the 6A cutoff number will rise, which should drop WB and BU to 5A D1. All the growth is west of the Trinity river
