  1. You mean The Tigermustangs!!! This so like when Silsbee hired Coach Smith. People wanted a coach and the school board hired another coach, an outsider. How dare they. People griped and complained all season, sat up in the stands and yelled and hollered at the new coaches. Coach Smith brought in almost all new coach, a new offense and a new defense, you had to have more discipline to run. Only a couple of returning starters coming back. After we lost in the playoffs to Carthage on a last second hail mary pass people sat up in the stands yelling for coach to go back to Houston and take his coaches with him. But, the next year we won district, went three rounds in the playoffs, losing to Carthage again. The complainers were less quiet. Then, the third year BAM, a state simi final game and the next year another state simi final game. I don't hear any complainers now. Change is difficult at first, hard to get ahold of. But, most of the time change brings on the same ways as before, Expecially if the whole community is behind it. If the sky is falling, be one of the ones that holds up the clouds so people don't get lost in the daze. I'm one of the ones that think WOS will be just fine. They have the athletes and talent to overcome change, does the whole football program have the community to help with the change.

  2. You are correct that it is an opinion piece. But the man has dedicated 30+ years to that paper that covers Orange County so I think it's a very credible opinion. He's seen it all.

    Hagar’s Ramblings

I may have posted this before but I don’t remember posting it & am to lazy to look. Also it’s to funny not to share. For those of you who know me, you’ll understand, but for those who don’t, I was not an easy little brother to have. As I’ve posted previously, my sister was 6 years older than me. When she started at Lamar she started dating this football player. He was from Port Neches. This was a big social step. One Easter he came out to Vidor to spend the day with her (us in my mind, lol). Wanting to socialize myself, I talked them into letting me hide some eggs for them to find. Much to the chagrin of my sister, they agreed. Just 6 little eggs. Surely little brother couldn’t snafu this up (LMBO she should’ve known better). Got 5 hid in the usual places, but where to put the 6th one. My devious brain came up with a ha-ha place. We still had a clothes line then and some of her clothes were hanging, including her underwear - suspended by clothes pins on the waist. So, in the crotch it goes. They easily found the first 5 but finally gave up on the 6th. Me, grinning from ear to ear goes to the underwear and pull out the egg. That football player went down faster than a LB blindsiding him he was laughing so hard. My sister was torn between embarrassment and a scale 10 anger attack (she was renowned for her temper & ferociousness). I suspect had the guy not been there I’d been dead meat. For weeks afterwards I kept my bedroom door locked & slept with one eye open. Later that day, after the date left, and out of earshot of our Mom & Dad, she called me a whole litany of expletives (yes, she had a vocabulary to match her anger). Now we laugh about it. Amazingly, as she aged she mellowed out, but she was “hell on wheels” in her youth. She was crowned the first ever Miss Vidor, out of 36 contestants. I’ll grudgingly admit she was beautiful in her younger days, but I’m also proud that I’m responsible for much of her grey hair. Such was life back in the late 50’s. 😂😂😂👽👽🤣👽👽😂😂😂

  9. Tap the brakes, my guy. I watched a couple of Anahuac games on their stream and I like the kid. He's a player for sure. But top 10 in the nation? I don't believe you're considering the enormous multitude of schools across this nation that will produce the hundreds upon hundreds of collegiate level quarterbacks over the next however many years. Just look at the state of Texas. Again.. I like him. But.. are you not considering Lake Travis, Westlake, Allen, Martin, and the multitude of other 6A schools that will have quarterbacks that focus solely on being a quarterback and the countless other hidden gem quarterbacks across all classifications in THIS STATE ALONE? Do I believe he'll take snaps at the next level? Sure? As long as the work ethic remains and he avoids injury. Top 10 nationally, though? You're legitimately talking future NFL quarterback with that statement and there's no way I'll be convinced of that just yet. Someone mentioned 1,000 yards.. where does that rank him in 3A?

Two things. First. That a very reasonable expectation at this point. The thing is this. Our expectation every year is to win the state championship. Most other schools can't and fans don't understand that. Few rounds deep is great for almost every school in Texas. We should be winning in December. Because we know what it takes and we are quite capable of doing it. Of course there have been plenty of years that didn't happen. And we keep on going just like we'll do if happens again now. Second... That is correct. Some say all or nothing, and why can't we be performing to what was expected. Hiring process aside. Other decisions since then have been questionable. Nobody wants H or the staff or the kids to fail.

  12. What I am starting to realize that there seems to be a faction of Mustang fans that would be disgruntled no matter how successful Coach Hickman would be this season all because of how the hiring process went down. (which by the way is a bit suspect) I think some (in the minority) wants Hickman to fail.

  16. Coming off big win, Kingwood Park football looks to keep strong start going vs. La Porte Marcus Gutierrez, Staff writer Houston Chronicle Sep. 28, 2022Updated: Sep. 29, 2022 9:35 a.m. Everything that could go wrong last Friday night for Kingwood Park happened. The Panthers faced adversity before stepping on the field against Crosby when the defensive bus broke down. The K-Park defense would make it to Cougar Stadium, but then the Panthers found themselves down 15-0 after the first quarter. They fought back, but trailed 22-17 at halftime. “When we went into halftime talking about different things, they had the look in their eye that they were about to get this done,” Kingwood Park coach Clayton Maple said. “They don’t want to let each other down. This group of kids play so hard for each other, and our senior leadership really helps as well. This is a great group of kids and they let us coach them, which is good.” K-Park went on to defeat Crosby 49-22 to remain undefeated in district play. It was the first time in history the Panthers defeated Crosby in 11 tries all-time. It was a particularly sweet victory given the Panthers were outscored 122-30 by the Cougars the past two seasons. “All the leaders on the team and the coaches just told everyone that the game isn’t over yet,” left tackle Erick Zapata said. “We knew that we hadn’t played our best game yet and still had another half to go out and win the game. You know last year we thought that we would be winning like this, but it didn’t happen. Everyone is stronger, faster and smarter so we feel real confident when we step on the field.” Up next for K-Park (4-1, 3-0) is La Porte (4-1,3-0), led by new coach Kevin Berneathy, in a matchup of District 8-5A Division I unbeatens at 7 p.m. Thursday at Turner Stadium. Zapata is among a core group of seniors leading K-Park this season. Quarterback Patrick Overmyer is off to a great start leading the Panthers’ offense. The dual-threat QB is 57-of-105 for 809 yards with 10 touchdowns to one interception. On the ground, he has 37 carries for 331 yards with seven TDs. Fellow senior Pierce Richards, Overmyer's favorite target and close friend, has 33 receptions for 439 yards with six touchdowns. They're trying to help K-Park make the playoffs for the first time since 2019. The Panthers, off to the best start in school history in district play, never have never won an outright district title. In 2011, K-Park shared the District 18-4A title with Willis and Summer Creek. Maple credits the adversity his team has faced the past two seasons to helping the Panthers start this season on a strong note. “The experience factor for our guys is what helps us the most,” Maple said. “Their belief and confidence that they have built over the last couple of years is helping us. Last season, we ended on a three-game winning streak, and we really told the guys that we can start this season just like we ended last season. We have a lot of good things going on right now, but we’re just taking it one game and one day at a time.” Zapata and the rest of the seniors know this is the time to leave a legacy at K-Park. The seniors want to make sure that the underclassmen know how important it is to be a Panther on the field, in the classroom and in the community. “As seniors, we really want to set the culture,” Zapata said. “We want to see these younger guys continue the tradition of winning at Kingwood Park. One day, the guys who are behind us are going to have to lead when we’re gone, and we have to make sure they’re ready when their time comes on the field to be a starter.”

  20. Eh, this isn't even close to true. Dad didn't bolt Hardin to give QB better chance at success only, but also the chance to have an excellent high school football experience, as well as a chance to win. Brady would've had success at Hardin had they stayed, but he would've always been limited in his ability to make a real run at BIG success. Brady can do well at Anahuac and get all the exposure he wants on the summer camp circuit. It is much more important to his parents that he get an education and get to experience life as a well adjusted kid, rather than bounce from high school to high school for exposure. Only way he ever leaves Anahuac is if Coach Dad gets an opportunity as a AD/HC somewhere in the next 4 years, and I honestly don't think he would do that to Brady. Panthers got this one for the long haul. Now, rather than overanalyze a 15 year old country kid's future, lets just enjoy watching him develop and lead a pretty good Panther squad through the rest of the season!

  21. I’m referring to the years Crosby was in the District with Nederland, Vidor, LCM, and Port Neches. Two of those 4 are now in 4A. (correction made) Yep, y’all were the Big Dog then. There were a couple of other Big Dogs but y’all pummeled them too. Not taking anything away, Crosby was good, and like everyone else, played the cards giving, just worked out in their favor. Now, not so much.

  22. Are you aware of the term District of Innovation? I read that most schools in the state took on that role which includes certain perks such as schedule flexibility and allowing certified teachers to teach in fields they aren't certified in. I bet that Hardin has those flexibilities. I also know that in certain circumstances smaller schools hire uncertified (yet degreed) people to teach while they are completing or even working on a certification. There is no set rules as to what exactly a coach HAS to teach.. and just because a coach is teaching something one year doesn't mean the teaching field can't change the next. Even for that exact coach. It sounds to me that Hardin either lacked creativity or refused to be creative... because I have friends/family in the coaching profession and was told that Barrier wanted to hire specific people to coach yet was told he couldn't. I'm not usually one to go off of just the word of a few but the coaching world usually holds pretty true to what I hear. In my experience anyway. So if that is evenly partially true.. he did the exact right thing by abandoning ship.

All of these kids are playing amateur high school sports. It’s nothing more than that. Its not the kids fault if people in leadership positions didn’t properly do their do diligence to put the MOST QUALIFIED people In coaching positions.

  38. What the haters, the I want you to win but hope you lose people, or folks who just don't know. The seniors on this team have ran a different offense every year of their highschool career. This one being nothing close to the other ones. Yes, it's shaky at times but the DAWGS have proven that skill set and talent is there to be explosive(Palestine and Franklin games are proof) C C (Coach Crumedy) has openly said that if it gets to where he just don't think the players can handle it , he will change to something they can. The current seventh grade class is his to implant a program that is practiced and improved thru repetition, developing kids skillsets all the while putting kids in the right positions to play that best suites them and the team. Look at the sustained success at schools like Liberty Hill and Carthage. Completely opposite offensive schemes but proof that if you perfect your craft it works. C C said (and I may be off 1 or two( +/-) on the exact #) but I gonna say our Jr high participation numbers between 7th and 8 th grade was 67 players(wow). "Scary good" he described the upcoming classes as.

I agree completely about student athletes NOT being called out. They’re kids. I’ll abide by the rule about coaches, but it’s dumb. If a man wants to take on the role of coaching with all of its financial rewards, prestige, power, etc… and expects to bask in the glory and praise after wins, he/she should have to face the criticism when it comes. There’s a big difference between criticizing a kid who threw a pick versus criticizing a highly paid professional who made a questionable play call, or is even having problems after deciding to install a new philosophy despite the old one being pretty doggone effective. Should people stick “for sale” signs in his yard? Absolutely not. But should that man be spared from any form of criticism, too? I don’t think so.

  43. Crosby’s had it good for a long time in D2. They were the big dog - always just under the D1, and beating teams with 1300 - 1500 students. In D1, with everyone close to the same - bam, not a big dog no more. Little tougher when the playing field is level. Still, the seasons not over. Y’all might come around. Just a tougher row to hoe.

PAM will run away and hide with this district. Crosby is simply terrible at the line of scrimmage. We will be outplayed there every game. Young backs don’t pick up the blitz and it’s going to be a year of watching a solid QB getting absolutely annihilated by the blitz. too many problems to fix. PAM wins by 28+ in this one.
