Lumberton PD officer kills machete wielding man

This is yet another straw man. So the ignorant make the claim that a police officer should not shoot a guy with a two foot long knife. They turn around and say the same officer should bring a one shot electric weapon. If the weapon doesn’t work (and reportedly it did not) or if it misses, the officer is likely dead Don’t bring a gun to a knife fight… bring a Taser. A Taser is meant as a use of force to replace a baton. When I started in police work, almost 40 years ago, we had no pepper spray, and no Taser. We had our hands and a 26” wooden baton. If a person resisted arrest, and it was not a deadly force situation, the options were to put hands on him and strike with the hands or strike with the baton. That seemed crude to some people. The Taser is meant as a hands on weapon to keep from having to beat a man down. It is not and was never intended to be used against deadly force.3 points -

I’m not hating on PAM at all. I’m just trying to prove png posters keep saying Dayton hasn’t played anyone at all but Porter is literally less than 7 ppg away from being first in their district. So they definitely aren’t a horrible team. Dayton is 0-1 against really good teams and png is 0-2 against really good teams. So I’m not seeing where png fans a figuring this game is going to be a cake walk like they think.1 point -

Definitely is fun to look at and think about. I find myself looking at the potential matchups as we get later into the season. His analysis makes that much easier. The potential 1st, 2nd, and 3rd round matchups give me something to over analyze. We have to take care of district first and then the 1st round but still fun to look into.1 point

Colorado Sends Voter Registrations to Illegals

The same elements of the DOJ that are going after every conservative politician or supporter? Looking for Dem Voter fraud? That’s not gonna happen. If anyone is waiting on them to find any fault with the Dem Party or Dem politician/supporter, prepare for waiting forever. A simple google of their investigation, or lack of, into the Hunter Biden Laptop should be evidence enough of their bias. And the link/story posted here is evidence they’re at it again. Got away with it in 20, why not 22? And then 24? Who’ll stop them? Seriously, who has the testicles & power to stop them? It should be the FBI but since they’ve joined in an unholy alliance with the Dems, who? No one that I know of.1 point -

LumRaiderFan reacted to tvc184 for a topic
Here is the huge difference. There always have been and always will be fringe elements of any stance. That isn’t new. The difference today is that individually there are people who are far out on either side but the parties are not. The GOP/RNC isn’t putting out any radical agenda. We can always say the nut job who lives at the end of the street and who supports Trump (or anyone else) is crazy. For the Democrats, it isn’t the nut job at the end of the block, it is the party. In fact, several times I have said in this forum that the rank and file Democrats probably don’t think nearly the way the Democrat leadership does. They are either stuck backing the home team or more likely, completely ignorant as to what is happening. When Florida passed a law that teachers can’t talk about transgenderism or sex changes until they are 10 years old and the Democrats went crazy, it wasn’t crazy Bob down the street but the Dem’s leadership including the White House. Therein lies the difference. The fringe has always existed. Right now the DNC “is” the fringe.1 point -

Good grief, you make the most ridiculous rambling posts. They hate him almost as much as your pathetic snowflake crowd...main difference is Trump controls your thoughts much better than theirs.1 point -
Maybe she wanted her own October Surprise payback for the defamation the DNC has hammered her with. Timing is sometimes everything. Has she stated this a year ago, it would not even be news now. Big girl reacted to CardinalBacker for a topic
That's my problem with the whole fiasco. I personally expected to see widespread voter irregularities. They never appeared, so I accepted the truth. So many people refuse to do the same thing. If there was credible evidence of voter fraud, you could get the diesel and I'd bring the matches. THERE JUST WASN'T ANY PROOF. There's no problem with having questions about the outcome. We SHOULD ask questions in a constitutional republic like ours. But at some point you have to realize that it had been two months after the election and no evidence was found, yet the Trumpers were storming the Capitol on 1/6 based on lies perpetuated by the losing party. I had a drink on the night of the election and told myself that I was gonna pretend like Trump won, because I knew that the results would shift towards Biden when the absentee votes were counted. Rs went to the polls and voted in person in defiance.... Ds mailed their ballots from home while probably wearing a mask..... Just like so many of them continue to mask up today. And they just didn't have the mechanisms in place to count the absentee ballots as quickly. It's not rocket science. I hoped his lead would be sustained, but it wasn't, and it wasn't a surprise to the intelligent. Here we are two years late and an overwhelming majority of republicans on the ballot nationwide are still claiming that the election was stolen from Trump in 2020. THAT is dangerous. It doesn't matter what the blue collar and white collar Republican voters think.... when the elected officials from the R party are a bunch of flat-earthers when it comes to the 2020 election, it's not a good thing.1 point -

In terms of policy, the damage coming from the extreme left is much more damaging, not even close. My life is impacted by obamacare, high inflation, higher taxes, high gas prices and an open border. It is not impacted by more babies being allowed to live and folks that choose to challenge the undeniably questionable election results. I certainly won't change my stance on anything based on how the snowflake crowd may react at the polls and I wouldn't expect it out of conservative candidates. Left wing policies destroy lives and businesses, right wing policies do not.1 point -

there's definitely just as big of a dumpster fire on the far right as there is far left. A lot of Trump disciples won't acknowledge it because anything he says is the gospel, and he supports these radical righties, but there are some absolutely nutty conservatives in office right now. It's going to hurt the right in the near future, during a time where they should be making massive gains. It's already showing up in races where republicans were projected to flip seats, but are going to lose because radical conservatives backed by Trump got enough support to get the nomination, but are too radical to actually win the election. Then again, all it takes to get his endorsement is to claim election fraud, with literally nothing else being a qualification, so it's not really a surprise that some of the goofballs he's endorsing aren't the best candidates.1 point -

Lumberton PD officer kills machete wielding man
LumRaiderFan reacted to tvc184 for a topic
They can be extremely effective and in many or probably a majority of cases end a use of force incident instantly. It is maybe 90-95% effective against people who are not jacked up on drugs. It is both extremely painful and if there is enough spread on the darts/fish hooks, it can lock up large muscle groups. In one case I shocked a possibly armed man who was in a small restroom at a restaurant. He was making threats and we believed he had a knife. To keep from having to possibly kill him we were going to use the original Taser which is far different than what is available today. It kind of looked like the old Eveready 6v lantern battery flashlights. BUT…. and this is protocol today, if a Taser is going to be used on a potential armed suspect, we must be prepared to apply deadly force instantly. That means one officer at least must be in the range to use the Taser (like 12 feet) which is much too close to a person with a knife or even club. In this case I was the unarmed (no deadly force weapons in hand) and had to rely on other officers behind me to use deadly force if needed. Basically we had to pull the door open placing me within about 6 feet of a guy with a knife, if he was armed. That tends to get your blood pressure cranked up. One officer had empty hands to take him down in a fight if needed, one had a pistol and the other a shotgun. The guy was unarmed but when I hit him with the Taser he shot out of that restroom and we had a heck of a struggle getting him in custody. My sergeant who was on scene (the hands on officer) said he looked like a bottle rocket coming out of there. A point in this case was, it put me in a potentially extremely dangerous position to try to keep from just killing this guy. There were no rules and said we had to use a Taser and that kind of situation. We don’t hear that in the media however. The next time we were at yet another restaurant where another officer and I tried to get a drunk a ride home since he was passed out in the restaurant. This guy was about 300 pounds and decided to fight instead of taking a cab home. He charged and the other officer who sidestepped him in a great move and shoved him to the ground with us yelling for him to stay down. Wellll…. not when you are drunk. He came at me and I shot him with a Taser but 1 dart either didn’t hit him or it got ripped out. He threw my partner against the wall and made a Taser could have been used on his back but it is a one shot weapon and has to be manually reloaded. I used it as a stun gun (which doesn’t stun but is excruciatingly painful) and drove it into his back to get him off of my partner. He stood up looking away from me and picked up a metal sign made with square pipes. He swung it like a baseball bat at me but I couldn’t see it coming but the other officer could but couldn’t stop it. At literally the last moment I saw it and put my left arm up to try and block a pipe being swung by a 300 pound guy. Fortunately I caught part of the blow with my arm. The pipe still hit my face. My partner saw so much blood fly that he thought it knocked my eye out. I grabbed my face in an instant reaction and could feel the cuts open up. I was pretty much covered in blood and threw my Taser down and used my Asp metal baton. That ended it. I spent a couple of hours in the hospital that day, I think the 5th time in the line of duty. My left arm had about a 3 inch bruise from my wrist to my elbow where it took much of the blow. They X-rayed my hand twice because it hurt to move my fingers but there was no broken bones. I opted to had my left eyebrow glued back together in two places rather than being sutured. The reason for the stories is to emphasize the potential failures of a Taser at the risk of sn officers’s life. I almost lost my eye, possibly my life and spent time in the hospital from using a Taser in what was an unarmed man. So I have used one twice and neither time did it stop the attack and 1 time really cost me. I still think they are an awesome tool but the notion that an officer would face a deadly threat with a Taser is beyond stupid. I could give you other failures in my own department and at least two of which ended up causing a death, one from the Taser adding to a man’s injuries (I witnessed that one) and the other failure caused the suspect to be shot and killed.1 point -

Yes. Looking at the most latest data available of the 5 year period from 2015-2019… The 3 Mid County cities have a combined population of almost exactly 50k. Port Arthur, literally across the street from all 3, has a population of 54k so pretty close to the same size. In that 5 year period MC had a combined 3 murders. PA had 38. Beaumont with a population of 115k (2.3 times as large as MC) had 78. So compared by size and murder rate, if PA was as violent as MC they should have had 6 murders instead of 38. Beaumont should have had 7 instead of 78. Yep, they all have crime. It’s just when you cross a street the most violent crime increases by up to 1,000% or more. If you want to go in another direction and compare Lumberton to Beaumont as an example… Lumberton had 3 murders in 14 years or 1 every 5 years. Beaumont has 9 times more population so using Lumberton as the standard, Beaumont should have had 9 murders in 5 years, not 78. But hey, there’s crime everywhere. It just isn’t perpetrated at the same level.1 point
