This stat pops up every year, but it's still amazing. Carthage head coach Scott Surratt has a record of 69-7 in the playoffs since he took over in 2007 and has more state titles (8) than playoff losses. He's 204-29 overall.

Richland Springs, Mount Enterprise, Strawn, and now Benjamin just in the last 4 years plus more before that. Dad is a coach and has 3 boys that were all really good. Looks like he moves them around to the highest bidder

THIS SOC team is not nearly as good as last years. The difference is this one is absolutely Elite on the defensive side of the ball. They won't score a whole heck of a lot but that's because they don't have to. They also will try to take the air out the ball if they get a 10 point lead. They are huge up front and its a state title game so everyone will be motivated. PNG has the type of offense that can score because they have highly accurate passing that can punish the SOC Safeties and Linebackers. You need to attack the seams against this team or you will be in trouble. Lancasters 2 TDs were good passes on the seems and a player simply running to open space for a TD.

I enjoyed watching the game. Silsbee has some dawgs on that team. Liked what I saw from #15 the PG. Those guys harassed Lufkin backcourt all night. This game is just what we needed. Silsbee came out and punched Lufkin in the mouth. Think they were up 9 or 11-0 to start the game and lead the entire first half. I figured Lufkin would have to adjust to playing a team that has some athletes. Lufkin knows what they need to work on now to get better. Austin Brown was held to 2 points the first half. I can tell Silsbee had scouted him. Had someone in his face from the start. Done much better the second. Prob ended up with about 20 points. Lufkin run actually started after the starting center and guard were injured. Walker eventually returned in the 4th qtr. Much respect to Silsbee. Can't really see a lot weaknesses in that team. I think #1 should be more aggressive though. That guy can pretty much get his shot when he wants. Hope you guys get healthy soon. I'll be pulling for you.

My alma mater and the team that routinely bounced us from the playoffs when I was in HS in the 80s (Groveton) were and are the Indians. At the 2A level (now the 3A level), you get much less of the PC stuff. That and nobody gives a crap (in general) in small town Texas.

Feeling good about PNG Football right now. From what I have seen starting the year to now, this team has peaked at the State Championship game. There will be a mass of people at this game. I will be one of them. I saw the 1975 game, the 1999 game & I will enjoy the 2022 game backing my Indian boys 100%. 😄👍🏈 PNG HAS A SPECIAL SPIRIT, PASS IT ON!!!

I agree. Of the games I have seen so far, we are not shooting it very well. If I would have to guess, we are shooting less than 42% from the field and less than 20% from 3 point line (I know I have personally seen at least a dozen air balls from 3 land). Only good thing has been free throw shooting. It's not just shots from the perimeter but also shots underneath. Several layups missed. I believe that the extended football season coupled with this very very tough schedule to start (at least 9 state ranked teams along with a couple of others that had been ranked, all higher classification except Dallas Madison) has proved to be a much bigger task for this Silsbee team. I believe the Tigers will be fine in the end. My fear is that this stretch of play (playing poor against very high quality opponents) may cause some bad habits. Time will tell.

Easy to say that will 11 top 25 teams in that region, it will be a monumental task to make it to SA out of that region.

The X-Factor, IMO, is Gary Joseph, who now has a lot of free time to crunch SOC film and help his son game plan to stop their offensive attack. PNG just picked up a additional assistant coach for this one. I really think this will make the difference.
