I am afraid this would be how it went had Cuero or Silsbee had been the opponent. I want to think that Silsbee would have a little more success offensively but Carthage is just at another level.3 points -
Mike Leach
WOSdrummer99 and 2 others reacted to TxHoops for a topic
From a Facebook post of a Mississippi sports reporter. Sorry but this was too good not to share. Is there any wonder why this man was so beloved? How welcoming, how kind was Mike Leach? Jeff Tyler of Wetumpka, AL contacted me to tell me a great story. It’s a story that reminds us of Coach Leach’s patience, his keen memory and his interest in others. I think you will enjoy this tale! “Three years ago, I took my 11-year-old son to a Mississippi State game. Jackson wanted to see pre-game warm-ups, so we were practically the first fans in the stadium. We took our upper level seats, and my son asked if he could walk down to the field level seats to watch warm-ups, and I let him. Well, this kid somehow managed to convince a security guard that he was supposed to be on the field. The next thing I saw was my son walking up to Coach Leach and fist bumping him. “The two started talking, and a few minutes later Coach Leach was calling over a couple of his players. Now, my son was a center on his YMCA team- Coach Leach had his centers showing my son how to snap the ball! I was in the upper deck, totally dumbfounded that an SEC coach just spent time in pre-game showing some kid he’d never met how to snap a football. My kid comes back to our upper deck seats beaming with pride- I saw it as a memory of a lifetime. “Two years later we went to another game- my son was again in the front row watching warm-ups. A graduate assistant ran over and yelled, Are you Jackson?’ and my son said, ‘Yes!’ The graduate assistant said, ‘Coach Leach wants to see you,’ and he took my son out on the field. “Coach Leach asked my son if he’d been practicing, and then made him do several snaps. Coach told him to keep working on it, gave him a football and sent him on his way. I was in the stands dumbfounded that a coach remembered my son’s name, remembered that day, and knew what spending five minutes of his time with a kid could mean.” Thanks, Jeff, for this wonderful story. I’m asking myself as I write this, “What other college football coach would do such a thing?”, and the answer is, “Pretty much none.” If anyone wonders why Mike Leach was and is so loved, they need only listen to the story of the coach and 11-year-old Jackson Tyler. Then we will all understand… In a snap.3 points -

Well. All it shows is teams need to do a better job of coaching there kids. That's why u gotta luv what png has done to get where they're2 points -
I agree. Out of region 3 or 4 anyways. Glen Rose was the 2nd best team in 4A-D2. Silsbee, mainly Miller, would have scored, but couldn’t have kept Carthage out of the endzone.2 points

The UIL should really make it easier for anyone to watch. Regular season and playoff games too. This is more of a Bally's problem. Never understood why leagues have blackouts either. Someone wants to spend money to watch and they say "sorry you're in the wrong area."1 point -

Agreed. Kid had more burst and wiggle than the older 2 kids. Wanna say all 3 that played are coming back. One or 2 of those kids will love to linebacker, or WR to fill that void. I told my brother that the Freshman reminded me of a young Tony Tompkins. One of my favorite, and most under appreciated PA’s backs of all time.1 point -

I have no idea who is gonna win this game. SOC has a lot of swagger. PNG is gonna have to come out early and punch them in the mouth. Much like FBM I think if you can rattle them, you can beat them. PNG can not let them get momentum early. If SOC tastes blood early it could be a long night for PNG. This is the most well balanced, disciplined PNG team I have ever seen. If they can not make mistakes they will bring home the trophy!!!1 point

Watching Silsbee Wednesday night it was obvious that they weren’t in basketball shape. Came out strong but second half it seemed the legs just wasn’t there. Replay this game in a month and would be a lot closer. Hard schedule should pay off but might hurt in final four seeding….side note: SFA’s coach Keller and Harris was armed up after the game. I totally understand alternating your play calls from running in the tackles to stretching it outside but running in between the tackles hasn't been successful with Brock. They've been very successful stretching out the line of scrimmage though.1 point -

The law doesn’t address it. I know that use of force experts advise against it. Since the law doesn’t address warning shots, other laws have to be applied. Firing a firearm on public property is a crime (I think up to 6 months in jail) and that includes the right of way/utility access in front of a house. Cities probably have ordinances against discharging firearms in the city limits and I think state law prohibits discharging a firearm in the city limits automatically if the city has a population of more than 100,000 such as Beaumont. Firing in the direction of a person, vehicle or building is a felony but that is overcome by self defense laws… assuming the self defense was lawful at the time. A DA might not prosecute or the police may not arrest and forward the case but a person is rolling the dice. Of course if you are outside of a city limits and on your own property, discharging a weapon usually isn’t a crime anyway. In such a case unless you are actually firing at the person, in which case you would have to justify it, merely shooting a gun in most situations isn’t likely a crime. In reference to shooting in a city limits with less than a 100,000 population a city ordinance is usually only a class C misdemeanor or basically a traffic citation. A person might get away with a warning shot but it potentially has legal consequences.1 point -
