    Trip Down Memory Lane

Yes, I remember well (sometimes). Gateway killed downtown Beaumont. Sears & Roebuck used to turn their basement into their Christmas shopping spot. The store was on Broadway and Magnolia. Building is still there. Heard about something called a mall in Houston. Think it was Gulfgate. Couldn’t believe you could put all those stores together under one roof. Later came Parkdale Mall (a proposed site for the Astrodome) and it practically killed Gateway. Lot of places are gone now. 11th street and College used to be a circle. Circle drive-in was where Conn’s offices are on College. I could go on, but that’s enough for now.

    Trip Down Memory Lane

Believe it or not, a trip to Beaumont was a big deal in my youth. When I was about 5 or 6 (early 1950’s) we’d make a trip into downtown Beaumont. During Christmas It was much like the start of a Christmas Story. Looking at the windows of Kress’s, Woolworth, and Morgan & Lindsey’s. Going in & seeing all the toys and decorations. Every time I see that movie I think of those days. As I got older my sister (6 years older than me) would get to see a movie at the Jefferson and Liberty Theaters. In those days safety wasn’t a problem. In that respect, it was “the good old days”. I suspect some of you have the same fond memories.

  6. They "addressed" it with SB2 a couple of years ago. It limited the growth of new tax revenue by cities/counties to 3.5% per year (with exceptions), but did nothing about the biggest offender-ISDs. FWIW, the local governments have just rocked on and ignored the 3.5% rule in a lot of places because nobody was complaining- those governments seem to like the old rule where a mere 8% increase in total revenue every year without requiring voter approval is okay. SB2 allows a jump to 8% if there's a disaster. So basically they claim that Hurricane Laura and the Pandemic were both "disasters" and therefore allowed them to raise taxes beyond 3.5%. In a nutshell, local taxes are based on a tax rate adopted by the taxing units multiplied by the appraised values set by the Appraisal District. When tax rates are being considered for the coming year, the entities calculate what rate it would take to raise the same amount of money as last year using the new, higher values. Imagine that your total value of all of the property in your county was worth a billion dollars last year.... and the county needed 2 million dollars to operate. Last year's tax rate would have been .002 This year, the certified value of all of the properties in the area were raised to 1.2 billion (a 20% increase in value). The local government would only need a tax rate of .001666 to raise the same 2 million dollars that they raised last year. The legislature allows them to increase revenue by no more than 3.5% without an election.... that 3.5% increase would yield a rate of .001725 to raise $2,070,000,000. Basically speaking, if values go up, rates will have to go down.... but the most people don't understand the math. I've watched local politicians with the above scenario adopt a rate of .00199 (a much higher increase in tax revenue than allowed by law), then proudly crow "we cut your taxes" because the RATE is lower than last years.... and people clapped like seals. Meanwhile their raising much more than just 3.5% as allowed. It happens everywhere.

    Mar-a-Lago Ring a Bell?

Big girl, Trump never had nuclear codes. Trump had what was previously classified documents. Why? Because he can!! And -- because only "Presidents" can declassify documents. So, there's the rub, isn't?! JoeBama NEVER had the authority to declassify any documents. As it stands now, there are 3 places related to JoeBama that holds "classified" documents. Again, what's interesting is that China gave millions and millions of dollars to the Penn-Biden Center. And the classified documents, and possibly more, at this center just so happen to be concerning China and Ukraine. Is it possible that any of these "classified" documents made its way to China from the "Big Guy?" Thoughts?!

  13. All joking aside, that's when I finally changed my stance on the abortion issue from "who cares?" to being pro-life... when the Dem Party Platform in 2012 declared support for a woman's right to abort, "regardless of her ability to pay." I'm strongly opposed to abortion personally, but that's just my belief. I felt like people should have the right to choose.. unless their "right" to choose means that I have to pay to support that immoral (in my opinion) act... in that case I guess it shouldn't be legal. But, there's enough stupidity to go around. Righties are talking about prosecuting people for taking abortion pills and outlawing contraception in any form. It's just too much. [Hidden Content] "The platform supports a woman’s right to seek a “safe and legal” abortion, regardless of her ability to pay."

  14. You said it was not the whole platform that approved abortion and I made a post that showed it was, it is in print in the Party Platform. The pro-life crowd looks at this as a living child that has value rather than simply a choice. Republicant's...nice, when you got nothing else I guess, lol,

  15. Yep, the whole platform. file:///C:/Users/kbingham/Downloads/2020-Democratic-Party-Platform.pdf Like the majority of Americans, Democrats believe every woman should be able to access high-quality reproductive health care services, including safe and legal abortion. We oppose and will fight to overturn federal and state laws that create barriers to women’s reproductive health and rights, including by repealing the Hyde Amendment and protecting and codifying the right to reproductive freedom.

  18. UIL is looking at using 2 footballs at the same time to exploit these skills and make the game very interesting. The two balls (footballs) would have to be hiked at the same time by an ambidextrous center. If they do not use two balls then I see no advantage in being ambidextrous. That’s my story and I am sticking to it.

    Coaches on the Move

As a PN-G fan one observation I have made this season is that Coach Joseph and his staff he assembled handled the big game well. I am not just speaking of the SC game against SOC (a great and deserving team), but games such as against FBM both times. His staff prepared the team well and adjusted his game plan to each team. This may seem like an obvious comment to something that should be normal but it isn't. Another thing that is obvious, but did happen was PN-G continuously approved each week. Coach Joseph and coach McDaniel played together at Katy and won a SC while playing. Both also coached in SC games. The other coach McCrary played WR at University of Texas. He was brought to PNG from SLC. As a player McCrary played in back to back SC,s and as a coach in 2020 his team made the SC before coming to PNG. That's 3 SC appearances for the OC plus years as a WR for UT. I can see now that as coaches at PNG they all have experience as playing in SC games. This was evident that any game we played in this year wasn't an unobtainable win or to be competitive. Coach McDaniel was the DC for Katy for several years and coached them in the SC games. That's my take from our coaching staff. Yes Coach Faircloth left them in great shape with a talented offense. The new coaches moved people around and wasn't afraid to play any player at any position at any time. Great staff assembled PNG and TY for doing a great job while replacing the winningest coach in our history. I couldn't even guess what the future holds at PNG, but I believe as long as we have this staff being competitive is something we should see every week under their leadership. We have quite a bit back next season. The line will be huge. RB is back adding Blair too the backfield next season which will add a bit more speed to the backfield for next season. WR will have to be replaced. QB will either be Shea or the Soph next year. Défense has a bit back next season as well. By the way there is a person on here who said PNG, Nederland, PAM, Lumberton, Vidor and so on would never make it to state again. Haven't seen so much as a good season or I was wrong at all from said person. Dont really care. PNG had a great season. Hope we have another one someday. If anything this should give hope to similar landlocked, non-magnet type schools still can and will make it to the big game. Look at Silsbee they have been on the cusp for a few years. It is possible. The last thing I would say is TY to all of you who supported us in this journey. Your support was noticed and appreciated by Indians fans everywhere.
