UT lost to #4 Tennessee last weekend, but this week beat #10 baylor and #7 KSU. Their next game is at #8 Kansas. They then get three unranked teams before finishing up their regular season with four straight matchups against top-15 teams. The big 12 is insane this year.

Great game yesterday in Houston. Furr has improved since last season. Region III will be battle to get out of. Furr has some very good shooter and Washington has size with Lewis and McDermott. Silsbee will need to beat one or both to advance to state.

Terry has shown he can coach. I think the bigger question is can he construct a roster in this transfer portal era where HS recruits aren't #1 priority anymore. Beard absolutely hit the jackpot with the roster he constructed at Texas this season like he did at TTech countless times. Highschool recruiting is a 2nd thought now and days. Think im wrong look at the top 10 teams in recruiting last season (2022) and now look at the top 10 coaches poll, only two teams (Tenn & KU) and with KU losing they may not be top 10 come Monday. Is all about how you construct rosters. Look at Vilanova, Jay Wright could construct rosters with the best of them. Only thing is the only way Texas finds out if Terry can out together rosters is after a contract is done. By 1 point. These two are about as close as you can get. Barring upset it looks like the Tigers will face 4 of 6 good teams depending on which ends up winning their districts. Round 2 Jacksonville or Bullard Round 3 HJ or HF or Bullard or Jacksonville Region Semi Furr or Washington Region Final Furr or Washington. Jacksonville is not ranked but they just beat 12th ranked Bullard on Tuesday by 17 points so I call them a good team. Jacksonville and Bullard are tied at 6-1 in District 18. Washington and Furr are tied at 12-1 in District 21. HJ is in the drivers seat in 20 with a one game lead over HF and the rematch at home.

It only took Traylor 5 seasons to win his first championship in 2004. Then again in 2009 and 2014. So replacing the elite coach wasn't easy. They promoted the OC to the position. Turner went 53-17 over 5 years with 2 trips to the semis, but no championship. Now that Menzel has taken control he has kept them right where they need to be. Paris in 88, coach Wilson won his first in his 6th season and won another with Tyler in 84 Ennis in 2000, coach Harrell won his first in his 7th season. Then again in 2001 and 2004. Gilmer in 14, coach Traylor won his first in 2004 after 5 season. Then again in 2009 and 2014. Pleasant Grove in 17, coach Gibson won in his 4th season and again in 2019.

Has arguably been the best hoops conference for a while now. Don’t think it’s even going to be an argument adding U of H and BYU (and sounds like Gonzaga sooner rather than later). Those three will more than make up for loss of UT and OU. And Lunadi has 8 of the 10 teams in right now.

To me it's about match ups. Kountze just can't match up with Anahuac. Too big. I borrowed this from Mike but it hits the nail on the head. Basketball has always been and always will be about the matchups. Shooting nights will come and go but bad matchups are hard to overcome!!

I agree with Reagan’s 7-year principle, but I would modify it. Actually winning a state championship is often out of the hands of even the greatest coaches. Under Reagan’s approach, taken to the extreme, if a coach made it to state 7 years in a row but lost all of them, that coach should be fired. No one in the state would want that coach fired. So apply the 7 year rule more broadly : If a coach doesn’t get you to at least the 4th round within 7 years, you can reasonably assume his ceiling doesn’t go that high. In other words, you can know in 7 years if a coach has the ability to get that team in the range of a state championship. If you can get in that range, anything can happen, but it’s not always in the coach’s control.

Silsbee won't be able to slow it down in the playoffs due to being under sized compared to most teams they will play, so running full speed is to their advantage to get ready for later.
