I wish more people would notice there was NO drama when Biden appointed the latest SCOTUS justice. No walk outs, no temper tantrums and certainly no death threats or assination attempts like happened to Brett Kavanaugh and Amy Coney Barrett3 points -

Ok, I have an example, Odessa Permian. They won 6 championships over 4 decades, only one coach got 2 (Wilkens). Gary Gaines coached when they won in '89 his fourth year. He left and returned back in 2009, and didn't even get to the third round in any of the seasons '09 - 2012. He went 23-21 during that period. Did he suddenly forget how to coach? I mean he is an "elite " coach by Reagans standards for the first 'chip but then just fell off?? Or was it that the population shifted in that area due to the fall off of jobs in the oil patch?2 points

Football is a team game, there are multiple factors in winning. Especially winning a SC. The coach is only one of the factors and another is a little bit of luck as far as bracket and timing.1 point

I'd say close to half of the schools in texas have a decent or good amount of talent in a given year, but only 12 teams a year out of over 1000 win a championship each year. The odds of any random team winning a championship in a 20 year period is way below 1%. Surratt is a phenomenal coach. Possibly the best in Texas history. Carthage started winning championships because he arrived, I'm not arguing this point. The point I'm making is that in the 30 years before Surratt showed up, Carthage had a grand total of 3 losing seasons. They always had a pretty good team, with a pretty good groups of players, a decent amount of good athletes, and always had more coming down the pipes. Once they had an elite coach show up, he took them to the next level, and players from surrounding areas suddenly found ways to get into the district. But what he did there is a far cry from going to (insert whichever of our local teams) that averages 2-3 wins a season over a couple of decades, and acting like he'd be able to do what he did at Carthage. Unless he got away with recruiting a ton of talent from other schools in the area, it would be simply impossible. You can't turn bad football players or mediocre athletes into state title contenders, no matter how good of a coach you are. You can certainly improve them, but again, coaching only takes you so far.1 point

Now, again, this is my definition of an Elite coach: A coach needs to win 2 or more State Titles to qualify. Winning one doesn't qualify.1 point -

Yes, because he has a winning system and the kids have bought into it. Newton, Carthage and WO-S all had elite defenses when they went to state. It isn’t hard to figure out that the more three and outs you have on defense the more opportunities your offense has to score.1 point -

Carthage never won a state championship until Coach Surratt got there. He hired all new coaches except one. Coach Surratt will go down as one of the best coaches in Texas high school football history. We Dawg fans are blessed to have him. All his coaching staff would make great head coaches after learning from him.1 point

NO WAY Crueder is even being considered. He got booted from the OC position because he screwed up the offense soOoo bad and it still hasn't recovered. He did some good things at Lumberton for a couple years but he had some great players with Hannah , Beard & company. After those players graduated he was never successful again. DuBois had two good years in Vidor but he had some great players (EX: Montana Quirante & Company). He also had a few good years at HJ but he had some really good players and never emulated the success after they graduated. Mathews having a losing record and recommending other coaches with losing records is preposterous He's sabotaging the process if this is the case. He shouldn't have a say.1 point -

I think people need to understand that this team for kountze is 6 sophomores 2 juniors 1 freshmen the only kid with real varsity experience is Sells. the big Warren kid played about 7 mins a game last year. also the 4 teams they are battling with all have at least 6 seniors on the team. ( i still think kountze sneaks in the playoffs ) This is where the lack of consistency comes from. A year from now the district is in trouble , and 2 years from now the entire state may be in trouble at the 3a level.1 point -

How many schools in the state have never been past round 3? What if a school has never in its history won 2 playoff games in the same year and hardly ever even makes the playoffs? What if it's a school like Sabine Pass.. or Warren? You know.. habitual punching bags. Then a coach starts making the playoffs consistently and maybe wins a playoff game every once in a while. Still need to be fired for not getting to at least 4th round in 7 years?1 point -

8-5A D1 PAM Crosby BH La Porte The Crosby BH game the last two years has come down to the final play of game to decide it. Crosby tying then winning 2 years ago, Crosby losing by going for 2 this year. I think Crosby turns those fortunes around this year. Kade Eudy got some very big snaps this year as a Junior and has a full offseason for the offense to focus on him. He has a sweet arm and we will see what the coaches develop around him. I expect Crosby might again be pretty young next year with several sophomores making varsity and playing meaningful minutes. Most the O and D Line are back and hopefully the strength and conditioning coach just has permeant video in the weight room of them being manhandled by King, BH, KWP, and Longview. I think some of the linemen at Crosby rested on their laurels last year and it showed up big time on film. Crosby is successful next year if those young men build their bodies this off season and really focus on becoming 5AD1 linemen. In this classification you cannot be undersized, and understrengthen and expect to scheme your way out of games. It all starts in the weight room. PAM should be the clear favorite, 3 deep playoff run, only lost to the State Semifinalist and it seems that State Semifinals was the real state championship game given the butt whooping Aledo brought out in the championship game. Crosby tends to reload skill positions and I'm hopeful they will do that. We do return our top two running backs but lose our top 4 receiving threats. Defensively we know what we have in the middle of the field and that kid looks like he wants it just as bad as any player I've seen. When you say he's the heart and soul of the defense you're not exaggerating it felt like 80% of the big plays made by the defense this year were him. (MINUS some great safety work.) No reason to be down on the Cougars next year. I think this district is all about the top two because otherwise you get Lancaster or Longview in the first round and no one wants to play those teams round one. PAM has a tendency to PAM a game away each year I think this year that would be a huge problem if it happened against Crosby or BH.1 point
