  1. Surratt had the talent of hiring coaches. His staff starting from the junior high to high school started teaching kids how to play disciplined football, how to lift weights, film study, pride of the C an how to play a very physical type of football. He said his self, Carthage had good athletes but were not physical. By the time you get to the junior varsity, you are playing hard nose physical football. Every little kid in Carthage wants to be a Carthage Dawg. No matter if they have to wait until they are seniors for a starting position. If you look back at every state championship team, see how many played FBS football (major DI college ball) you won’t find but a small number. You will find a whole bunch they landed at smaller colleges. The point is the coaching staff developed those kids and made them the best they could be. Carthage has had some of the best high school quarterbacks in Texas but only two played DI football Boggie went to USAT and one is at Tulane now. It is all about the program at Carthage. Surratt, Preston, and all the other coaches beat with one heart beat and by the time the players get to the varsity, they have the same heart beat.

    Boy, that was painful

Well, against my better judgement, I stayed up and watched the SOTU last night. Between the outright lies and incoherent babbling I gave up an hour of sleep. I gotta give old Joe his due (or at least his speech writers). He stuck to the same old tired Dem talking points. Heck, 4 supreme court justices skipped it (one a democrat). The bright spot on my loss of sleep was Sarah Huckabee Sanders response. Ok, on to my coffee and getting going at work. Have a great hump day everyone.

  3. figured that would be the response. shared or out-right is no difference, it still goes down as a district championship.

  4. Rice played a good game last night. He was aggressive with the ball and has good fundamentals. In my opinion, the most improved player on the team from the beginning of the season.

    Don’t Mess With Israel

First of all they are God’s chosen people and you shouldn’t mess with them. Secondly, they have nukes and will annihilate anyone in an all out attack. Can’t believe we kept them pent up during the Gulf War, but that’s another story for another day. Now we have Iran touting secret underground air bases. I’d bet the house we (THE USA and Israel) know EXACTLY where they are located. Seems to me you simply bomb the openings and they’re trapped like the rats they are. Iraq hid their white flag flying troops in some of their underground hangers that couldn’t be reached with a typical conventional bomb. We developed a bomb that could burrow to the hanger and then explode. It was beautiful to watch technology overpower our enemies. Oh well, Iran should be very careful because I put my money on Israel. Tensions rise as Iran threatens Israel, reveals new underground airbase [Hidden Content] Explore the Fox News apps that are right for you at [Hidden Content].

What was it now, a couple months ago everyone was still wearing masks? Now kissing on the mouth is permissible. Amazing how that works.

The most cringeworthy moment to me was the kiss between DR. Jill Biden and Doug Emhoff (Kamala's hubby). If I were Joe I would watch out kissing Jill anymore. Doug kisses his wife and we all know where her mouth has been.

  14. One aspect that gets little attention, but explains somewhat the success of first year Coaches is tradition. A school with a winning tradition (imo) has a definite edge over one without. PNG & Nederland are two examples, although Ned has fallen off recently. But when PNG takes the field, with the stands full of purple and the band blaring out Cherokee, they have that edge. And if for instance they’re playing Vidor, and it’s one of those rare times Vidor should win, they more often than not will lose because of that tradition. Call it “never give up”, or whatever, but a great tradition goes a long way. Jmo

  29. Big win for the Raiders who just locked up 3rd place and a date with Hamshire Fannett or less likely HJ. If they play that whole game like they the first half against Silsbee last Tuesday the Raiders have a shot at the second round. Bridge city will meet Jasper on Friday to decide 4th place in the district. They'll have to play better than this to win but they can do it.

  38. Well, that's not 100%, now is it. Let me explain: Since you are part of the "it's the kids" cabal, what if on day one that Surratt stepped foot on whatever campus you choose, the Championship kids started showing up also like the "it's the kids" crowd would say happened at Carthage? So, yeah, according to some him winning a Title is very possible in that case scenario! BTW, you stated Carthage wasn't devoid of kids when Surratt showed up. So, why no Titles before Surratt and 9 After Surratt showed up?! Maybe is it because bad to mediocre coaches, even with decent kids, can't do what "actual" Championship coaches can do with the same kids?!

  42. Ok, I have an example, Odessa Permian. They won 6 championships over 4 decades, only one coach got 2 (Wilkens). Gary Gaines coached when they won in '89 his fourth year. He left and returned back in 2009, and didn't even get to the third round in any of the seasons '09 - 2012. He went 23-21 during that period. Did he suddenly forget how to coach? I mean he is an "elite " coach by Reagans standards for the first 'chip but then just fell off?? Or was it that the population shifted in that area due to the fall off of jobs in the oil patch?
