    Png 2023 ??

It was an extreme example on purpose...the point is, just saying that any coach should be able to win no matter the talent level is ridiculous.

Although the example is pretty extreme, the logic makes sense. It is a combination of things… the school board/community play a very large role as well.

I will use and extreme example, but let's just say the KC Chiefs play Sabine Pass in football? If Sabine Pass loses, is it the coaches fault exclusively or do maybe the players/level of talent have something to do with it?? Just labeling your argument as "blaming the kids" is easy and frankly lazy IMO...if you portray someone as putting all the blame on the poor kiddos, it's easy to paint those folks as villains...the bottom line is that sometimes you just don't have the Jimmy's and Joe's...you need good coaching AND good players to have serious success

  7. Eddie Owens. Wheatley lost to Dallas Roosevelt in state semifinals in 1972. They won state championship in 1973. That game with Roosevelt still is entrenched in my mind. That was the first time I had ever went to the state tourney (my first of now over 50 times). I was an 8 year old boy and what I remember of that game was not so much the actual game (even though it was an amazing game, Roosevelt won 111-109 in regulation) but it was the amount of people watching that game in old Gregory Gym. We were packed in there like sardines and they had closed the doors so the 100's of people left outside were climbing up on the roof to watch the game through the windows up top. It was an awesome site. That experience hooked me for life. My dad (who started going to state tourney in the late 50's and went every year until the early 2000's but had to stop due to health) and I made that an annual father/son trip from 1972 to 2006. 35 straight years together. Dad made 50 straight years. My current streak is at 51 and planning on making my 52nd straight state tourney this March. Oh the memories.

  8. I'm hoping the last game was just an outlier for the Lady Hawks, and they come out ready to play and jump out ahead of La Vega early.

  13. I thought about going to that one. Looking more like me going to Woodville for that double header. Hamshire-Fannett vs. Center at 6pm and then Crockett vs. Orangefield at 8pm. If it weren't for the double headers, I would probably go to Montgomery and check out Big Sandy vs. Hearne. Two of my favorite coaches and just good guys will be squaring off in that one. Kevin Foster for Big Sandy and Travis Williams for Hearne. Haven't seen Travis since he left Kirbyville a few years ago.

    Vidor is open !!

From what I have been told, there is a reason a hire has not been made. It was stated that Mathews would officially leave June 1st. Well, that will make 1 year from when a certain coach had retired. In Texas, you have to sit out one year after retirement to go back to work for a Texas ISD. That's the law. Now, that doesn't mean that this coach can't come in now and start working with the team but he cannot be officially on the payroll.

  16. I think BH has the best player but HJ probably has a better overall team and better coached. I would have loved to have seen them play this year and better year as the warmup game before the playoffs vs the 1st game of the year. Does anyone know why Dalanna Carter is not signed though? She was getting D1 offers as a freshman so curious what the story is.

  20. BH had no business winning that game. In fact, Manvel gave them that win, twice. That said, if we're basing who's better off of one game, then HJ's win over 6A #4 Pearland makes them the better team, as that's a better win that BH's best win over FB Hightower. HJ also beat Judson, who handily beat BH, and beat 5A #12 McKinney North. HJ has 10 wins against 6A competition, a couple of those are ranked, and 8 of them had winning records, and several of them were "1st place teams", since that's part of how you're gauging things. 4 of HJ's 5 losses have come to 6A schools with winning records, including a 3-pt OT loss to Katy Cinco Ranch (24-11), a 6-pt loss to 6A #9 Summer Creek (31-4), a 6-pt loss to Sachse (26-10), and their one semi-bad loss of the season to 19-14 Dallas Skyline by 15. HJ's other loss this season was by 5 to 27-4 Houston Christian, probably the best private school in state. While HJ had to play 4A competition in district, and BH 5A, BH's district is not very good. So all in all, HJ has more, better wins against a significantly tougher schedule that BH played, despite being a classification lower. BH's losses are for the most part worse than HJ's as well. Having said all that, I think they're very close. It's a shame BH backed out of their game to play Iowa Colony. But the overall body of work this season points to HJ being the better team, and having the better season. HJ playing the last month without 2nd best player (and post presence) has made a difference, but their overall resume is better. I do think both teams lose their next game. Waco La Vega is insanely good this year, and is probably a tougher opponent than Hendrickson, who's also very, very good.

Sounds like you're a kid blamer. In 7 years time or less, an elite coach would beat the KC Chiefs with Sabine Pass. I said what I said.

  23. Eddie Owens played for Houston Wheatley 1970-73. Fobbs. Jr. played for Silsbee and Sam Houston State. He got the nickname of Cardinal Killer from the local media because he always had his best games against Lamar.

  24. Ahhhh, yes…. the straw man again. I remember history in junior high school in the mid 1960s and I never heard anything near a claim that there was no civilization in the Americas before Europeans arrived. When did this become a teaching that Europeans were the first civilization in the Americas? It wasn’t taught 50 years ago when I was in school. The only perpetual lie is that this is being taught. And yes, Columbus did discover that there was a continent that was unknown to Asians, Europeans and Africans. Those continents were connected by land. They were not connected to the Americas. The Columbus voyages started what is known as the Columbian Exchange. Technology, foods, etc. began to be exchanged worldwide whereas much of it was unknown. As an example, today Italian food is widely associated with tomato based foods yet tomatoes came from native Americans. Prior to Columbus, there was no pasta dishes as we know them today. On the other hand, horses which are in many cased associated with some plains Indians in the Americas, came from Europe. There would have been no horse culture among some Native American tribes had it not been for Europeans. Those exchanges of cultures were started by Columbus. For I suppose for woke political purposes, that part of history is ignored.

  27. Whew! BH survives and advances to meet #9 Hendrickson in the Regionals! BH busted out to a large lead vs. Manvel early but Manvel roared back to lead by 8 in mid 4th. Near the end of the game BH rallied and got it into OT. Manvel again lead by 2 with just 3.5 secs. left. BH was desperate to get a half court shot off with 0.3 sec. but a Manvel player inexplicably committed a hard foul as the shot was launched. Mental error on their part. Carter sank all 3 FT's and BH moves on to face Hendrickson. BH will have to play great and hit most of their FT's. Hendrickson is very good. [Hidden Content]

    Vidor is open !!

whoever Vidor hires, they better do it pretty quick. They are running out of offseason. If it is someone who is going to run the same system then its not that big of a problem. But if its someone changing it up then that's more of an issue.

    Silsbee vs Jacksonville

Silsbee by 15 I watched the entire Jacksonville/Kilgore game. If Jacksonville plays Silsbee like they did Kilgore in the first half, they're going to be in serious trouble. They can get hot from 3, but so can a lot of teams the Tigers have played this year. #21 is the only post presence they have. They rested him a lot. Again, they do that to Silsbee, they're going to be in trouble. Most of their kids that played are only about 6'1. You can watch the game here: They also will be broadcasting the Silsbee/Jacksonville game. Might want to temporarily subscribe to their channel if you want to see the game and can't make it.
