Cu Chulainn and 6 others reacted to Coach Bethea for a topic
There are always two sides to every story. I know a lot of coaches read this site but I am not going to sit and be someone’s punching bag on a site where people hide their real name. I am not hiding behind my screen name. I have a great resume. Yes, I have been at different places but some were my choice and some were the results of politics in this profession. Some of you coaches who stir up the conversations and hide behind a screen name, well that is why I don’t come coach with you guys. You should worry about your jobs since you are on short leashes. You know who you are and coaches in the area know who you are too. Heck, I have had 7 coaches contact me this morning about the jabs taken at me on this post and they all had only positive things to say. (Last 5 years) OF Assistant – went 3 rounds deep, renewed for next school year. Evadale Boys Head Coach – Won District Championship…tripled win total. Principal wanted her brother to be the coach. (Turned out ok because I went to OF) WOS Girls Head Coach – Renewed, accepted job at Evadale (basketball school) Slocum Girls Head Coach – told girls program from Middle school to High School would not win a game. Won 30 games overall…. AD wanted best friend as a retire/rehire to take over Girls. Ask me to go to the boys’ side as assistant. I ended up accepting job at WOS. (Covid hit this year as well) Deweyville Boys Coach – Wanted to coach my daughter. Accepted job at Slocum. 111 wins as a Head Coach 3 District Championships as Head Coach, 3 District Championships as an Assistant Graduate in December from Lamar as a Honor Student with Master of Education Administration Degree.7 points -

I know both of these Athletes personally and I will say this about them both! They made the best decision for themselves and for their personal goals. Neither of these players needed anyone elses opinion on the decision they felt was best for them. It completely blows my mind that so many people are so vocal and what a player should or should not do. Maybe we need to have everyone post on their upcoming possible promotion at their job and we can VOTE on if that is a great decision or not for you. If you decide to take it then we will rake you and your family across the community boards on how that was not the best decision for the community or the program. I also sit in the stands and so many of our fans are so negative and out right disrespectful to majority of the players for so many reasons. When I hear and see so many the funny thing is they never even played sports in High School. absolutely breathtaking! Noah and Gage are leaving our school in just a few weeks and they will be representing their Hometown School and it truly sucks that there are those that feel like they let our football program down because they chose the best pathway for their DREAM! Maybe just maybe, everyone can finally be honest and focus on the real issues with Big Ned! It starts from the top and I am not speaking on the AD! Starts higher than that!!! Last point I will make is this.....Before you comment please remember that our Athletes from our surrounding areas read and make comments about everything that is posted! Be the Change you wish to see! Noah and Gage Good Luck to you both and always know there is a lot of us that will cheer you both on until you finally retire your cleats!3 points

You don’t owe anyone any kind of explanation but good for you. Personally, I wish you the best whether it is at OF or elsewhere. I respect the sacrifices you guys make and all you do to help our kids.2 points

I don't know you, have never mentioned your name on the site, and don't have an issue with any of the reasons you've stated on here. I've heard only good things about you, and respect the fact that you come on here and say who you are. That said, I'm still in agreement with Knox about not wanting a coach who always has a reason to leave. I'm not about to debate a man about what's in his own head and heart, but I think your record speaks for itself in two ways. 1. You're a good coach that 2. doesn't stay in one place. I'm not going to dissect every reason you've posted, but reading them I'd think there's a good chance there will be another reason that comes up causing you to move on to the next school, especially if it's an upgrade. If I were at OF, I would be hesitant to hire someone who has a history of not staying in one place, no matter how good of a track record they have as a coach. I work in education, and often serve on interview panels, and it's always a red flag when a teacher turns in an application with a job history full of one-year stints and a bunch of different schools. Coaching isn't any different in that aspect. All that said, you have a working relationship with those at the school, and are a proven winner, so you do have a nice inside track towards the job. I wish you the best of luck, whether it be at OF or elsewhere.2 points

But keep in mind, these are just opinions. We are just having a conversation, that's all. I know I am not throwing shade at any team or trying to "bury" any player. Also keep in mind he had much better tools around him at athletic Anahuac than he did at 8th grade Hardin. If what I am reading others say is correct, Ned won't have "that" much around him to help out. Again its just an opinion, I wish all concerned the best. Thanks.2 points -

I think you are right. I think the young man would absolutely excel and have a higher profile at 3A Anahuac, but in 5A he will be asked to carry Ned to some degree, and its doubtful Ned makes deep runs with or without him. There is a significant speed and talent difference between 3A and 5A ball. With all the hype and speculation that's gone on since last year this was already baked in. Sometimes the best move is one you DON'T make, so I hope he doesn't look back in a few years and wonder what "might have been" had he stayed.2 points -

21 for long rifles that have a detachable magazine.....so semi-auto 12 gauges will still be legal. Here is my thought process. I don't think the act of making someone's first choice illegal will stop them from choice 2 or choice 3 if they are going to commit mass murder. The next shooting where someone uses a couple sawed off 12 gauges in a confined area may change the weapon of choice for multiple shootings. People that commited won't let a law stand in their way. I don't have a answer, I wish I did, I just think these "feel good" laws hurt more than they help.1 point
-
I just don't think it will stop a shooter. If I'm pissed at the world and decide to shoot up a school, I'll get a gun. The bill says it would restrict sales of "certain types of semi-automatic" rifles. This is nothing more than the democrat playbook of getting a toe-hold with a seemingly benign restriction and slowing adding more "certain types of rifles" in the future. And I certainly wouldn't want to deny a responsible 20 year old with a job living in not the best part of town because it's all he/she can afford from being able to buy any weapon of his choice for self-defense.1 point

Vidor has a nice weight room and an excellent strength and conditioning program. Oldschool2 is just regurgitating things he picked up on the playground, I suppose. Trying to sound cool, but nothing specific to address = silly post.1 point -

Did I take a jab at you by saying that? If so I didn’t mean to. I don’t know who you are nor did I know you were an assistant at orangefield. Apparently the players dad wants the assistant to stay there so sounds like you have his vote! I think most people would agree that if someone that has had 5 jobs in 5 years it doesn’t look great on a resume. Maybe I was wrong about you🤷🏻♂️ Apologize if it came off as a jab. But sounds like you have the support of the players and parents.1 point

That should definitely be in favor of the transfer, you would have to think.1 point -
Word on the street the transfer QB will be competing for the spot but has not been awarded the position. I feel the coaching staff is going to evaluate all the players and utilize them to strengthen the entire Team. Our defense should be pretty solid but our OLine is truly gonna have to play with heart and grit due to their lack of size. Size doesn't always matter as we all know. It will be very interesting to see who comes out on top and I am excited to hear that the Coaching staff is going to give the returning qb's a shot at the position along with the new transfer. May the best Athlete Win!!!1 point

He was 14 competing on varsity this year? I’m sure with maturity and fine grooming and football camps this summer he will do just fine. someone on here talked about his speed? Well I know he won 1st in district in track in the hurdles so he will be fine with speed.1 point -
It seems like the job is a state wide talked about opening from friends I've been talking to. It's bad timing but also good timing in the sense that someone(s) got overlooked in the initial coaching hiring and there is a smart hungry guy out there whos looking at an OC/DC job next year that really deserves their own program. There are also HC not AD's out there that are reportedly looking and applying for the job. I think it's an easier job to sale than most places given you know they have the talent to make the big run in playoffs. We just need a coach that's going to take care of the defensive side of the ball as well (like Prieto.) because you don't just outscore people in 5AD1.1 point

Barrier is leaving Anahuac. I believe he should have stayed 1 more year, matured a little more and worked on his scrambling and footwork, then moved on to a 5A or 6A team and shoot for a D1 college. If he goes there and gets beat up and doesn't make the playoffs, I'm afraid it will set him back. At Anahuac, he would be in the playoffs and possibly make a deep run and teams will come calling for his services. Just my .02.1 point

There needs to be coaching turnover within every program to keep the ideas fresh. Nederland has fallen into a laid back good old boy attitude for too long and it has finally come to light and everybody is seeing that now. More than half the coaches don't even teach anything, so your paying people teachers salary to do nothing or sit in OCS. The whole system is broken at Nederland and its time for something to change.1 point -
Bridge City kid was 2nd team. Fort Bend kid was honorable mention. Those are facts, Jack. Another fact is your football coach begging Orangefield's best 8th grader to move to LCM. This is a basketball thread. See ya!1 point
-
The thing is orangefield should be a desirable place to go coach. They have talent and have a city that supports them and a school that supports them. The problem is when you get parents that are too involved and want to lead the team or think they no more than the coaches. They turn a desirable job into a vacancy that will be very hard to fill with an experienced good coach. All these coaches talk and know what to expect from the parents going into it. A lot of them will stay clear of that job to avoid the headaches that come with it. If the parents want the best for the team they need to keep their opinions to themselves.1 point

Seriously? Have you not been on this forum long? I understand the game.. but this is the mecca of: number of unathletic kids per unrealistic parents, facilities were good enough for grandpa so they're good enough for me, can't work out during summers because (insert excuse), can't pay for experienced coaches but expect experienced coaches, then fire the coach because they didn't win a title by week 4. You're really surprised? Welcome to the show. By the way.. the players WILL likely get behind him. It's the experts that won't, if anyone.1 point
