Orangefield HIRED Bryan Whitmire
Cu Chulainn and 2 others reacted to TxHoops for a topic
He really does. I think it helps too that he has a reputation as the kind of AD people love to work with. He genuinely loves all the sports. Like most Texans (myself excluded), just football the most. The OF community is blessed to have him.3 points -
RIP Hagar
thetragichippy and one other reacted to TxHoops for a topic
It is with great sadness I report that Hagar passed last night. He had been battling cancer for some time, along with his wife of 55 years. She passed less than 2 months ago, and our buddy just joined her. He missed her dearly, obviously, and was surely overjoyed to join her. He had just gotten a positive report but developed an infection this week his body couldn’t fight off. His daughter reports that he passed peacefully in the night. Hagar was someone we all enjoyed posting, and he was a great friend. I met him through this message board, and was blessed to develop a friendship over the past several years. I debated where to post this (either here, the football board, or the Locker Room), but I feel like this is the one where he posted and enjoyed the most. He will be deeply missed. Prayers for his beloved son, daughter and grandchildren. As you can imagine, he was very proud of them and an incredible dad and grandad to them all.2 points -

100 days from now the season starts with a bang. Mustangs D needs to be ready for anything against Nederland (deleted). WOS has a good returning group of play makers that look to make some noise after a disappointing season under a 1st year coaching staff. Those guys have now had a full off-season to prepare. Mustang fans are eager to see what has or hasn't changed. Tradition will not go away easy. One step at a time to the top, just like the Mustang mile. We'll go meet up with all the teams that got their wins last season. And remind them why the we have the record of all time winningest team in TXHSFB history. 1. 8/25 @ Nederland- 7:30pm 2. 9/1 vs LCM- 7:00pm 3. 9/8 @ PNG- 7:30pm 4. 9/15 vs Newton- 7:30pm 5. 9/22 vs Silsbee- 7:30pm 6. 9/29 @ Liberty- 7:30pm 7. 10/6 vs HF- 7:30pm 8. 10/13 @ Bridge City- 7:30pm 9. 10/20 vs Jasper- 7:30pm 10. 10/27 Bye 11. 11/3 @ HJ- 7:30pm Bellville? I'm gonna go head and pencil in that game too. Just won't be 1st round. I'm also looking forward to home field advantage... Newton, Silsbee, HF, Jasper. Seems like we can turn this thing around pretty quick with a couple big home games against ranked competition. Mustangs Nation been too quiet this year. Time to get it going the right way. BREAKING Crosby hires HFC/AD Joe Willis

Word on the Skreets is Joe Willis former coach at Cedar Park, Colleyville, and Tyler Legacy. A bit old for my taste but hope for the best.2 points -
He thought a lot of you as well. We both mentioned you and LRF often as guys we knew we would like and enjoy their company. I’m so grateful we met (I think AAW and I met him at the same time during the Evadale tournament years ago). I was blessed to be able to watch several games with him over the year. We shared a love of sports and complaining about officiating.2 points

OMG. I knew I should have checked on him. I work with a man from Evadale and asked Hagar if he knew him. Of course he did. Our friendship took off from there. I never met the man, now I wish I had. He and I would text occasionally. He told me of his condition and asked me not to mention it. You posted it in the right place. Even though we may not have met, I feel I know the man. He had a sense of humor that was so enjoyable. We all loved his posts and his “country” humor. He will be sorely missed. R. I. P. my friend.2 points

PN-G's Spring Game
Rez reacted to prepballfan for a topic
PN-G had their spring game this evening. The Indians will be a really good team this season. f you were thinking a big drop off would happen you will either be happy or sad. They look great. LT. Jackson Christian Jr next season is already received 3 college offers. Freshman Wolfford RT is 6'6" 280 has received a college offer and will be a soph next football season. The line at PNG is huge. Bigger than last season. RB athlete Chase Johnson who played 2 seasons ago as Trahan's back up at RB and started in the playoffs when Trahan got hurt in round 2 and played in round 3 left football. He is back at DB this coming season. Really great athlete. The defense is swarming and very big for a PNG defense. The DC from Katy is legit and has these kiddos believing. Both receiver's outside are over 6'2". The back up QB Bailey will be a sight to see the coming seasons. This kid plays like a older player as a 9th grader. He was throwing dimes all over the field. The duo of Chatagnier (Ron McGill Chatagnier;s son) and Nguyen will be tough with Shea in the backfield as the QB. The defense will be salty. Power running and a stout defense. Shea throwing 40 yard bombs. They looked really good. The hits were awesome. PNG will be a good team this season.1 point -

Coach Waggoner will have his team prepared for every game as usual. Week 1 @ Lumberton will be a great test for the Longhorns. D'onte Zeno, 2nd Team All State Offensive ALL-PURPOSE, is back to make the most of his senior year. His athletic abilities are amazing but I'm not sure where he's going to line up. Wherever that is, he'll definitely demand attention from the opposing defense.1 point -
BREAKING Crosby hires HFC/AD Joe Willis
Cougar14.2 reacted to MrFleet23 for a topic
I would’ve liked to see someone younger. He’s had tremendous success at CP but no where else. Someone 36-46 with enough piss and vinegar to get the kids up and buying in. Not a someone their pawpaw age.1 point -
BREAKING Crosby hires HFC/AD Joe Willis

This going to be interesting as a hire. I am not sure how things will work hiring someone that decided to retire then come back out of retirement. Seems like he is well qualified, but was he the best fit for a small town like Crosby (another thread needed for that discussion).1 point -

I have been hesitant to chime in mostly due to a lack of information. Highlighted above is exactly my question. Did the guy have priors? Was he already under investigation? Were the police tipped about something the truck driver had done illegally? Other than having a large amount of cash in his possession, were there any extenuating circumstances which would call for the seizure of the man's money? Unless "YES" is the answer to any of those questions, it would seem that he has been wronged. Legal or not.1 point

Well Tuesday night victory against UTRGV by a score of 10-4. Close out the regular season against HCU on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. This will finally determine if we make the conference tournament and if so what position we will occupy.1 point -
Civil asset forfeiture is one of those ideas that started out sounding good but has been radically abused by the way the law is written. It is much like red light cameras but on a mega scale. What they do is take a situation that would be unconstitutional or statutorily unlawful. Then they make lawful by calling it civil instead of criminal. There is a huge difference between civil and criminal. Under criminal law the burden of proof is beyond a reasonable doubt. The burden in a civil case is a preponderance of the evidence or roughly, anything more than 50%. As an example, to convict a person of running a red light, there would have to be proof beyond a reasonable doubt and he would have the right to face his accuser. They know that would be impossible under criminal law so they call it a civil penalty. Basically they are suing your vehicle for damages for running the red light. Caveat: Texas outlawed traffic violation cameras a few years ago. Other states still use them. I see nothing wrong with the state seizing assets gained in a crime. If a guy is selling drugs and has $250,000 in money that can be proven to be made from illegal drug sales, he should not be able to do two years in jail and then get out and keep it. The problem is the burden of proof. They can say that you have no means to make that much money like a 24 year old guy working for $15 an hour and living paycheck to paycheck but is carrying $40,000 around in his car. That obviously looks wrong and a jury might agree. But there is no need by the civil forfeiture law to show any link to a criminal activity. It is assumed. Apparently they can say that “this doesn’t look right” and that’s enough. Obviously that is wrong.1 point

Great idea. Probably should've been locked up until the official announcement anyway. I'm guilty too though. Hope everyone is happy when the announcement is made. This seems like a home run hire again for OF. Coach Smalley makes this look easy. We'll see soon enough.1 point -

DuBois named Vidor new AD/Head Football Coach
Mr. Thornton Melon reacted to oldschool2 for a topic
You would literally run out of head coaches as they retire if they had to have experience as a HC. If some kind of stipulation per school district.. some schools would have to be willing to accept a HC with an extremely poor history of success due to small applicant pools. What if the only applicant with HC experience is 4-46? That's better than an applicant with coordinator experience on a state championship team? Every coordinator.. every head coach.. every coach.. was a 1st timer once upon a time. Sometimes you gotta take a chance on it turning out ok.1 point -

No knock on him or the team, because you beat who’s in front of you, but if looks like two playoff wins against a .500 team and a team with a losing record was what it took to get to state? Unless maxpreps is missing some games? If that’s all it takes they should be going to state about 8 out of 10 years if he’s a good coach and attracting local talent. Their next game is against a district opponent whose incomplete maxpreps record is 7-11. I don’t know how all of the private stuff works, but I seem to remember maybe they’re soccer team winning a state championship and only having to win 3 or 4 games.1 point

I was at the game last year. Anahuac moved the ball well in the first half but Newton led 16-14 at half. Newton dialed up the pressure in 2nd half, sacking the freshman QB several times and picking him off twice. Made him make some rookie mistakes. I will be very interested in the progress this young man will have to make going from 3A ball to 5A ball as a soph. I think he has potential but I predict a rough season for him.1 point
